Well I guess warning people on manually sigging themselves will all depend on context and content. Thus it is once again a subjective matter whether or not to warn, but since was it not?

Don't be simplistic.
Of course it's always been a subjective matter. What now makes it different is that the signatures have effectively been removed, now making it more likely that people will feel the compelled to manually sig.

Reading books is lame especially ones that arent evn true.

I like the new sig area, but they should reduce the number of lines/charicters to better fit into their little box. Many peoples sigs go outside of it.

With the new place for sigs, I'd rather have no sigs at all, but instead more information about that user. For instance; The Bungie games he has played, perhaps even a little (game) biography. When I move my mouse over someone's avatar, I expect to see all that rather than a cut off signature. In any case, I do like where it has been placed.

I will admit that it places more importance on the content of one's post.

However (and part of me is reluctant to mention it, but I am certain that members will start even if I didn't) I suspect that people will start manually "sigging" their posts because they feel that they have "lost billboard space".

I don't know. If it becomes prevalent, I could probably then test out the new ninja-warning feature.

I hate that..

As the author of his sig, I don't think you speak for anyone but those with little to no sense of humor.

Honestly I kind of don't like it.It's just that signature, you know goes at the bottom of a post. That's just how it goes you know? But who knows, maybe it's just that I got so used to the old format.

Yeah, its a dominant thing in practically every forum! This new look is sleek, but it may be at a too great of a cost, there are jsut some things like this that should be kept, also I think since we have a little banner on our profile we should be able to post our own and some day I hope to be able to post our own avatars.

As a frequent reader of said sig, I agree with this man.

Suffice to say that sometime, a moderator is going to end this account permenantly.

I think that each user should have the option to change where they can see other's signatures.

One option can be the way it is now; where you have to hover your mouse over a user's avatar to see the sig.

Or the way it was; where the sig would automatically show at the end of each post.

I don't mind the way it is now though, I just think it'd be another cool, customizable option.

I do it for Ada

I have returned

I don't really like it. Now people have to scroll over my name to see how much I hate Ghandi 2.

(before this thread I thought they got rid of sigs though because I couldn't see them :P)

  • 03.20.2007 5:01 PM PDT

This is much better. The actual content of the post is not taken away from by a signature of equal (or greater) size.

Signatures are staying the way they are now. If you don't like it... well, tough.

As for the size, everyone's signature space is a fixed size (I don't remember the exact height). If you exceed that (even if you are under the character limit for a signature), it will get cut off. That is by design.

I hate the new place for it, but if it's stuck there atleast make it the right -blam!- size!

Ok, I've had some time to think this stuff over and calm down.
It's just.......
Why give us 500 characters for a siggy, then program a box to cut off the bottom? It seems self-defeating.
Why not cut down the characters? Or enlarge the box? It's just plain stupid to give a person space to wirte down what they want others to see, then cut short the amount of room to display it.

I guess I can see where Shiv's coming from. To me its not really so annoying kust more redundant. Take -TGP- for example. I knew who he was by his Icon/Screename 2 inches away. Do I really need a reminder? As for Steve/Anton, well its just part of his shenanigans. Whatever Steve adds to the subject would be equally as important without the impression of multiple personality syndrome. I guess we'll just have to see how it plays out and see if people really feel the need to abuse it.

I have mixed views on this. I like how it's less cluttered and the value of the post is more defined this way, but I would also like to see some signatures. I usually find useful links and other things in many people's sigs, but now I have to search for it. If anything it should be an option where to put it, like N0F said. Or make the box larger, like 10000 Fists said.

I'm certifiable.

I like the new signature placement; the old .sigs were too prominent, and got in the way of reading the rest of the forum all too often. (Especially the cloned-ASCII portraits that were becoming far too common for my tastes.)

This layout puts the emphasis on the contents of the posts... which one would think would be the main reason to browse a forum, no?

-- Steve's got some adapting to do, but thinks this will work out just fine.

I like it, but i still wish they added the option to post a picture. I would love to be able to post my stats via query spree. I can see it being distracting before, but now, it would be an added bonus.

BTW, since the groups aren't up and we can't read the rules, does that mean we can get away with anything right now?

The groups were the only places that the rules were posted for the forums.
I could finally finish that quote pyramid i got blacklisted for last time.

Hmm, its kind of a double edged coin for me. I like not having to look at people's sigs. Sometimes, they were nothing but page breaking eyesores. But, now I'm going to have to actually try to check them to see if there is bad content, which could be annoying. But, I'll get used to it. I'm liking it so far.

About the post sigs, I'll only do something about it if its distracting, or if it becomes a real problem. If you all use your heads, and can avoid taking it too far, I won't mind. Blocks of text and ads will warrant some attention, but a simple sentence of two should be okay.

Hehe...yeah you would be the guy to waste hours of life just looking through sigs to find something worth geting upset over and warned/banned.
