Subject: Member ranks on B.Net?

But with Ranks, what will we be given? I don't think any one can be trusted enough except for the moderators right now. If someone is given a high rank, that person may start blacklisting like hell and have no reason to. That's what group mods do when I join a group.

its like a large force of win going through fusion, thus creating a chain reaction of a huge asplosion of win destroying any fail within its awesomeness.

I vote yes. I vote yes because of all the wrong reasons. I vote yes because you jerks bore the crap out of me with your friggin' civility, tact, and being agreeable. I vote yes because my mother held me too much as a child.

For super serious reals seriously, I am not voting yes because of the problems it would create. If they (Achronos and/or whoever) can actually implement the karma system the way they had invisioned, it should actually restrict your problematic users the more they overreact when theyt try to gain undeserved ranks the wrong way.

Basically, if you just want a stupid title next to your name without any kind of reward or punishment system, I don't want ranks. If you want a stupid title based on contributions, lack of being blacklisted (more than once), and maybe moderator approval, I do want.

Snuggly kittens and such. Also, puppies. Maybe. Sometimes a flamethrower. And a lot of chilli dogs.

And milkshakes and smoothies!

I am a Floodian

Im unsure if it would be a good thing or not, because it would cause elitism, and the number of posts someone does doesn't mean much. It would lead to spam.

I work here: Sound Devices, LLC. We make bad-ass field audio gear, and you think that's awesome. My messy desk (With work-related items on the computer screen).

I dont think aspx forums would support that...

You would find member rankings in php forums.

Haha! Believe me: aspx is just as capable of keeping tracking of small integers as PHP is. Thanks for that bit though; It really made my day.

Anyway: I also said "No". I fail to see what purpose it would serve. If we're just here to talk about a video game(s) we all like, what does it matter what anyone else's real or perceived "status" is?

The only place I could see a ranking system helping is in a forum where people discuss very complex /and/technical subjects. In a forum like that, people with higher ranks could be taken a little more seriously since their rank shows they have the time to keep talking about such a detailed/technical subject. Even then, it would ensure that they knew what they were talking about, so...

no because of spam

I can post 300 posts and be stupid or irrelevant to something and be a "lieutenant" or something

Ditto.

I agree with impurity here. And I think that people who automatically yell "No" whenever the topic of member ranks comes up are having a knee-jerk reaction to something that they haven't thought about.

Now this particular idea is terrible. Ranks based on number of posts or length of membership are a horrifying, terrible idea. NEVER!!!

But a system of member ranks based on quality of posts, lack of blacklisting, and definitely also moderator approval is a good idea and will encourage good and intelligent posts and encourage bad members to be good. If you tell people "elitism will knock you back down to regular member status," that takes care of the elitism problem.

Achronos has something in the works that will encourage good posts, and we'll eventually see what it is. I don't know if it's a member rank system, but we'll see eventually.

Ranks in forums only create spam. There shouldn't be member ranks due to that it is fine the way it is. The only ranks other than member are Forum ninja, Master forum ninja, Bungie.net Overlord (Achronos), and Bungie team member. That's enough in my opinion. We don't need people "racing" to get to the highest rank.

Now that you've taken the time to look at my sig, I actually regret not providing you with something more worthwhile.

Yes. I'm already an elitist prick and I want a title to act as my reason why.

No, you would be banned. And "banned" would be your rank.

Why don't you just give me ONE SECOND!

Honestly? No. It'd probably create elitism, people with high ranks think they're better and such. Plus if it depended on how many posts you made, someone could go somewhere and spam a bunch, then they'd have a high rank, which would be fake...

Brown Eagle, I'm sure you already have noticed this, but I feel that this is a good time to remind everyone who DOES read all of the posts in a thread that many people refuse to read all of a thread before posting. These people read only the first post in a thread and therefore consistently and constantly create irrelevant and repetitive replies raising issues that have already been addressed. For example, I addressed the "elitism" issue that HaloChick mentioned just a few posts earlier. Yet she posted about it anyway.

When someone posts in a thread having obviously read only the first post, it is usually wise to just ignore it, in light of the fact that they will obviously never see your reply either.

No sweat. I was just slightly frustrated because the same thing just happened in another thread.

Anyway, it is now apparent that you ARE reading the replies, so......

All of you are saying no because of the residual elitism. Perhaps ranks could be awarded by the Ninjas as a mark of honor to those who can be trusted. Maybe, since all of us have "Member" by our name, there could be another, maybe "Community Member" that would be awarded to those who are active in a\the community, and wouldn't abuse it.

Yeah. Recon, a few others, and I have all proposed variations on this idea. I like it.

Achronos has something in the works -- we have yet to see whether it is any kind of stratification system, but whatever it is, I'm sure that it will help to encourage being a "good member."

Cower in front of The Overlord and The Disembodied Soul, maybe, but not the mods.
Posted by: American Recoil
No, that will lead to super-spammers post stupid crap just to get a higher rank. It is good how it is, strict is Achronos' way of organization. We are all equal so we all cower in the might of the mods, that's just how it is.
