*editied* - Ok ive changed the topic to a Man of the Match award after a game has been played.

Hey guys,

Just had a little brainwave idea and wanted to hear your guys thoughts on it.

Im really impressed with the new stats system, and how you can view were you pwned someone with a shotgun, or stuck some one from across the map.

How about we have a Man of the Match award?

For example, the game ends and your at the carnage report, and the player who played the best (eaither on the winning or loosing team) would be notified as the "man of the match".

Let me know what you guys think about this idea, maybe if we get enough people posting, Bungie will consider it!!!

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

prometheus is right, as usual.

Leaderboards and "top gamers" stats were the primary reason that cheating became so horrifyingly prevalent in Halo 2. They're never coming back.

EDIT: Thank god!

He certainly has a point. Personally, I hated the "OMG I'm a 42 and ur just a 20" arguments and rampant elitism that the leaderboards spawned.

  • 03.21.2007 7:27 AM PDT

Ah,

i didt know that.

Maybe if they have just a top 5 best players of the day.

Bungie could look at the game results and think, "humm he did very well, he can earn place 3 on the top gamers list today"

That way you actually have to play good, not just get 50 kills and 0 deaths

Having a more selective procoess would only encourage them to cheat more often. And besides, there are very few legitimate "elite" players...

Mehhhhh, I dunno....

You'd still have the "elitism" problem that Jim mentioned. Not to mention that would create a ton of extra work for the online team, as they'd have to cull through thousands of game results and choose the best five people. Sounds too hard. I think that the only way to do it would be have the XBox Live system choose the gamers completely randomly. And there's really not much point to doing that.

  • 03.21.2007 7:31 AM PDT

True.

I mean, i love the aspect of levels, Like going up a level when you win, especially when you are playing with your friends on a team, because it gives a moral boost.

But i hate playing 12 year olds who are all mouth at the end of the game saying how much you suck, that really gets on my juggs.

I just thort a top player would be good.

How about a Top Player of the game? That might work

There wasn't a "I absolutely would NOT want this" choice in there...

I am still of the firm mindset to only have hidden ranks.. no visable ones. A leaderboard would compound an already isidious cheating problem

Maybe a "Member-of-the-day"?

It wouldn't really be "elitism" if it were random... It'd be cool, as well, to have an "award", much like RvB, for those who were selected...

  • 03.21.2007 7:36 AM PDT

WyattFNEarp, i agree with the cheating.

From the comments, i agree that a leaderboard would probly not work so good.

But i think there should be some sort of "Man of the Match" award

Somethign that shows you played best in that game. Not just the person with like 32 kills and 29 deaths, it should be awarded to the player who hepled his team, got kills but also didt give away kills.

I think that would be ace

Go to Statsreloaded.com , they have what you're looking for........." bragging rights " but good luck making the leaderboards.........the site is full of cheats.
50 to 1 kill ratios and all.

I think Bungie is playing it smart...........BUT, I would like to know who has the most overall kills.

This is getting into the realm of "Halo 3 Forum" stuff, so I'll be concise (or a mod can just move the thread). But Bungie agrees with you! They have already confirmed that there will be a "Game MVP" for every game. The method of calculating "Game MVP" will be secret (at least that's the plan for now) and will not be based solely on kills.

  • 03.21.2007 7:44 AM PDT

Thats great!

I think a MVP would work really well!

They should include the use of ammo, headshots, how many times you shot some one to kil them. Deaths and also how long you stay alive, also assists.

This would be better... yet if you think about it, it would still enourage elitism. People would be able to scream in the mic "I'm an MVP, that's why you lost!! Get blamed!" and all that.

Don't get me wrong though... if I saw my name up there it would be awesome... and hard to keep my mouth shut about :(

Bungie listens to its fans! ^.^ | Ninja .II./ You
RCG: In ur base, steelin' ur flagz. | Watch the demo, then join the carnage!

I like the idea of a Man of the Match award after the game was over to reward the guy with 4 kills but 4 flag saves and 3 flag grabs. =P

I think it'd be difficult to code for though, there'd be alot of variables...

What I don't like is this white text box. :[

An MVP would be good for matchmaking games, I don't see it working in customs.

In skirmish games you're going to have different formulas to incorporate the ball time, hill time, and the flag steals/save as long with the Kill/death statistics. I think it might be hard to determine who is the MVP the person who did the objective or the person who's killing everything?

  • 03.21.2007 8:14 AM PDT

Yea, Bungie would have to consider alot of factors. but thats what they do? They make the impossible, possible.

Just trying to get people to talk about an award for Man of the Match, as i think this would be a great improvment to halo.

It would be great to say, "hey i got 4 kills, but i worked harder than you did" and have a MVP to prove it and will smack the next 12 year old up from saying "Hey you suck with 4 kills"

I wonder if Bungie are taking note of this thread

Subject: Man of the Match award?

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

It would be interesting to see a "Player of the match" for each game played which is automatically calculated based off Kills, deaths, assists, possibly even medals. However, i am personally glad the leader boards are gone.

  • 03.21.2007 8:43 AM PDT

True Gods Prophet,

Id love to see a player of the match :)

If you're talking about a medal at the end of the game, Halo 3 will already have this, I believe. Wasn't it called the "MVP Medal" or something? I think they went over that in the EGM special.

  • 03.21.2007 8:47 AM PDT

MVP Medal would be great in halo 3! But i think they make it more awear to the other players in the post game lobby.
Something that stands out as soon as you enter the post game lobby.

Maybe a medal symbol next to there name?

Nothing to see here, folks. Move along.

I think an MVP medal would be the perfect way to implement this. Stats programs like Query Spree could easily sort this data and you would be able to see your MVP medal totals and whatnot. What else did you have in mind? A gold star next to your name in the Post Game Lobby?

I bet that the vast majority of people that would care about MVP also check to see their medals after most games. That would be the best place for it.

  • 03.21.2007 11:23 AM PDT

A gold star! that would be great, just sitting next to your name in the post game lobby.

I think it would be good to have a little logo next to your name, maybe a crown or something. Something to show your important in that game.
