Adding to my long list of complaints about the newness, my internet window will sometimes freeze up when I hit reply, and I need to do the whole alt+ctrl+delete thing to get rid of it.

So far it's only happened when I hit reply, and it really freezes up. I can't even hit the red "x" on the top right of the window to get out.

Is this just a problem with my computer, or is this a bug that's being worked on?
And I'm using IE, I don't know if its IE7, I'm not very up-to-date on those things.

Ok, I lied, now it freezes in my Personal Information window.
So far this has only happened on this site, after the "new hattness."

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

I am also having this problem. The "freezing" effect usually lasts for about ten minutes. This is quite annoying.

I get that occasionally too. Usually when replying and quoting.

What "seems" to work for me is getting Windows' attention. I click to other objects on my taskbar, click and right-click on the button for the locked IE session. After a moment of spaz-clicking, it unlocks.

I can only guess that it is opening a background process in Windows that tends to hang or lose it's priority.

try using firefox...

I had that problem in Firefox before I upgraded. I would suggest clearing cookies and history and whatnot. And I suppose you could try waiting it out, but that's rather time consuming.

Its also happening to me. Except, not when hit reply. It happens to me when I want to create a topic. For some reason every time I hit create topic it freezes. Sooooo annoying.

Now its working =\

I work here: Sound Devices, LLC. We make bad-ass field audio gear, and you think that's awesome. My messy desk (With work-related items on the computer screen).

This is loosely related, although I admit I'm proselytizing a bit:

Here, here! this is the best advise for sure. As a web developer, half of my time is spent making websites work for standards compliant browsers (i.e. everything but Internet Explorer versions =< 6), and the other half involves tweaking and hacking to help Internet Explorer understand what things like "CSS" and "JavaScript" are. Internet Explorer is a very poor browser.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to use Firefox (Or any other browser) to view all websites. One caveat I will give: Internet Explorer 7 seems to have made a lot of improvements. So if people here are making browser changes in hopes that it might help view/use the new hawtness better, then I suggest any of these browsers:

Firefox
Opera
SeaMonkey

If you're on Mac:
Camino
Safari

If you want to stick with Microsoft and don't mind a drastic UI change:
Internet Explorer 7

Not all of us can just switch to a different browser. I often visit Bungie.net from work, where I cannot simply download and install new programs onto my work computer. Saying, "Switch to a different web browser" is unhelpful and repetitive at best.

This website has supposedly been "simplified" for faster loading. Considering that it mostly consists of text and fairly simple javascript now, it's my opinion that the bug should be fixed such that it does not take ten minutes of button mashing to view a website owned by a subsidiary of the same corporation that makes my web browser.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

I find that switching IP's (I often use my laptop at school and at home, so I work off of different routers) causes freezing and the "Windows Live ID" error

To the people having this "freezing" problem - are you running IE6? We mostly ran tests using IE7 and Firefox 2. IE6 did get tested, but not at the level of the more recent browsers.

If it is limited to IE6, that would assist us a lot in trying to find and fix the problem. Also, in all bug reports. PLEASE include the browser and platform you are running on. The entire nature of bugs change from one platform to the next.

As an aside - if you want the best web experience (not just here) - I really suggest you get IE7 or Firefox 2 (Safari and Opera are good, but many sites don't test for them). For bungie.net, here are the list of browsers we explicitly support:

IE7
IE6
Firefox 1.5
Firefox 2
Safari (most recent version)
Opera (most recent version)

Of note - IE lower than 6 WILL NOT WORK here.

Stop sending me group invites -blam!-s!

I'm really glad FireFox works properly now. On the old site the images used to load in the wrong places and it was a mess. The site is so much faster but I wish the forum lengths would change...

My problems occur when I attempt to reply to a topic. The window opens and loads, but my browser freezes and must be terminated...

I am running IE 6 (IE 6.0.2900.21800.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 to be exact), and I'd upgrade if this were actually my laptop (no Admin priv. FTL...)

Edit: This problem usually occurs once after a shutdown period, and possibly after an IP switch...

Point well taken. I didn't mean to sound so militaristic. The goal and duty of good web development is to create pages that work on all browsers. The problem is that different browsers interpret HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in different ways. IE versions equal to or less than 6 interpret things in very different ways. This makes a web developer's job very tedious, and it is the reason that I am exerting maximum self control in not getting into the "why" argument in this thread (It would be more off-topic than I might have already taken us).

Anyway, as you can see, Achronos himself stated that the site was tested mainly against IE7 and Firefox 2, and even explicitly stated that IE versions lower than 6 just won't be dealt with. If his job bares any resemblance to mine, I bet the only reason he is supporting IE6 is because so many people still use it. that's why people who do the work that I do get so excitable when we see any chance to convert people to better browsers.

But like Achronos said: you will help the Bungie web people a lot if you let them know these things every time you experience a problem:

The browser you're using (IE, Firefox, Safari, etc, etc)
The version of that browser (IE6, IE7, Firefox 1.5, Firefox 2.0, etc, etc)
The operating system you're using (Windows XP, Home, Me, Vista , Mac 10.2, Linux if you're uber-geeky, etc)

It seems like you feel you did something wrong... Maybe that was just subliminal due to the "wait until my dad get's home" comment. :)

It's good to let them know when you experience weird things. It helps them make the site better.

No, I don't feel like I did something wrong, I was just apologizing because of the inconvenience my ignorance caused.

Actually, apart from a horrible bug with the front page menu, Bungie.net works very smoothly with Opera 8.5. Even more smoothly than in Opera 9.x I think
