Subject: the level that freaked everyone out?!

Yeah. Maybe he thinks you're tainted, and because you're green, kindof like the Flood, he may think that you're gonna turn him into a Combat Form?

"Take 'em down! NOW!"

Posted by: Human Forerunner
That was one of the elements that gave Halo: CE more than "30 seconds of fun." The storyline was so involving and alluring to the gamers that every little scene played a key role to the overall story. Those "scary, suspense-filled moments" are what make the game worthwhile. The story keeps weaving a tangled web in which characters of every race become important in the aspect of achieving an adrenaline rush that pulls you into the "reality" of the game, reflecting real life. I remember so vividly the marine that shoots at you. He is surrounded by glow-sticks and he is out of his mind. I would be just as scared and "insane" as the marine who just saw his squad die. It makes you wonder if the marine shared extreme life experiences with the men in his squad that made him experience "brotherly love" with the members of his squad. Losing his squad members could have been similar to losing family members to that marine. The minds of those brilliant creators of the series make the most subtle of terrors an extreme sense of horror in the height of the level. Great, now i'm gonna be playing Halo all night! Shweet.

Dunno, I find Marathon be to scarier than Halo.

Ditto-d.

"I pledge to punch all switches, to never shoot where I could use grenades, to admit the existence of no level except Total Carnage, to never use caps lock as my "run" key, and to never, ever, leave a single BoB alive."

2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

Marathon was a little tantalizing at moments, however I find that 343 Guilty Spark takes the cake for "Freak you out moments." Just walking through the jungle with vegetation around you coped with screaming...very eerie.

It was weird when I first saw the marine just sitting there. I kind of wondered why he was doing that and then I realized. It kind of creeped me out.

I agree. That was tough going in the jungle. It's just so hard to keep any of your marine buddies alive, especially on Legendary.

  • 03.26.2007 8:18 AM PDT

If you want to see the MC die, play Legendary. If you want to see MC finish the fight, play Halo 3. If you want to see MC finish the fight by dieing, why did you waste six years when you could have done it yourself right now?

I was a wee little 13 year old back then. That errie feeling scared the pants off me!

And yes, the reason he want to kill you is because he can't trust anyone. Especially Chief whos skin can't be seen outside the suit. The reason that's important is because he'd know if he's infected then. The infection form could be behind him or something. Yet this marine keeps talking as if he still thinks you could be noninfected "Find your own hiding place, the monsters are everywhere!" "They're gone! Get it? GONE!" If they wanted to, they could have really done interesting things with this character much like the " lone expendable" in GoW, but they had more important things and less time and efficiency to do it. What I mean is if he DID follow you, he'd obviously have to die somewhere along the way. Just make him crazy and get on with the game! Good choice.

The crazy marine really adds to the game experience. Listen to his rants, they're creepy. He goes on talking for at least 15 minutes.

Jokes about deaths aren't funny.

Carter out.

in the beginning of the level, listen closely to the radio transmittion playing in the crashed pelican. It's hard to hear, as it's mostly fuzz. The marine says something like, "we've been ambushed....captain Keyes has b..n taken....negative, n... covenant.... send reinfor....pelican Charlie946." If you go to the front of the pelican, the service number is C946.

It pays to pay attention.

Has anyone ever just stood there (behind a crate) and let him shoot at you till he ran out of pistol? I tried once but got impatient and killed him, and I guess i got him down to one clip, but I just wanted to know if he said anything different like; "-blam!- I'm outta ammo", or "you just beat the Halo demo!"

Lol. I remember when I first got Halo: CE the first time I played through campaign it was on heroic and when I got to that part I walked in the room and I saw the marine and I knew I was being shot at, but I couldn't figure out from where. I spun around trying to find what was shooting at me and right when I realized what the marine was saying he killed me. =-p

why marine speaks to me if he thinks im Flood

Good question, any answerS?

Simple, He's completley freaked out.

If you saw you're friends die, then turn into a horrible monster, and then try and kill you... You'd be pretty scared. It's just what normal people do, when they see something like that happen, They panic and eventually start to go insane.

  • 04.30.2007 9:55 AM PDT

simple, i think he went into shock, shot anything he saw, because (like so many have said) he saw his his squad taken by the flood. but he does know you are human. listen to him. but i have tried to keep him alive. . .damn marine killed himself. . .

oh, and if you read the book Halo: The Flood. then maybe he was one of Silva's ODSTs that didnt like the spartan program at all. . .just a though.

Im pretty sure it was because of the flood. While playing the game you never actually get a chance to see any of the flood upclose, however, the marine is in AI so he sees the flood with real-life details just as if something like that happened in real life you would see them as what our minds believe to be "terrifying". If anyone ever got the chance to see something that horrific up close and in their face it would be enough to drive even the most strong-willed individual temporarily, if not permanently, insane.
