This part is going to sound like hyperbolae, so I’ll reinforce the fact that this is merely my opinionAs much as it did sound like a plane curve having two branches, formed by the intersection of a plane with both halves of a right circular cone at an angle parallel to the axis of the cone, I can't help but think you might have meant hyperbole. ;)

No more fancy skyboxes??? Then what do you use, I highly dought the air goes on forever. ...maybe it's a realy big skybox.. or better yet a skydome.
P.S. I do know what a skybox is.I think the comment meant they will be using less tricks with their skyboxes. For example, instead of using scrolling bitmaps for clouds they will be using some more sophisticated particle effects, that kind of thing perhaps.

Please don't even attempt to speak for the entire Halo fanbase, you'd be suprised just how varied people's opinions are. My opinion? You're an arse who, sad to say, should probably get a life.As he has said himself, at no point did he claim he was speaking for the entire fan base, any comment expressing an opinion should be taken as that of the author, not of the entire community he happens to be part of. Calling him an “arse” and telling him to “probably get a life” doesn't help the matter either, if you disagree with him by all means express your opinion in return.

I love how you assume that me posting my opinion (which last time i checked is the point of this whole area of the site) means that I don't have "a life" - and I don't recall having said that I speak on behalf of all Halo fans. Get your facts straight noob - I'm simply offering a counter view. Oh - and there really is no need for you to quote my whole post noob - it's the one right above yours - pretty sure people will know who you're referring to. You're probably just made because you were one of the "bad kids" who got owned constantly in H1 because you couldn't shoot a pistolUnfortunately you're being no better than him, with this name calling and again making derogatory assumptions about him exterior to the point of discussion, just as you informed him not to.
As for your actual arguments, Janitor, I think you're relying on a false assumption. You assume that Bungie actively decided to make halo 2 different to halo 1 in order to appeal to the mass market and achieve better sales, it was more likely an organic process. Halo 2 did end up having great mass market appeal, by most accounts that is a successful product. Just because the gameplay style changed and appealed less to a small sector of their market does not mean they have sold out, it just means the gameplay has evolved and the small sector hasn't. If you're trying to play Halo 1 on Halo 2, you aren't going to have much luck, some fundamental parts of the gameplay mechanics have changed and you need to adapt to accept that, or continue to play Halo 1.
It's clear that the majority of the testers enjoyed this new style of gameplay brought about in Halo 2, as they had lots of testing sessions, and used feedback from these to work on the game. By using tester feedback, they are going to be working to improve the game such that it appeals more to the majority of these testers. What your actual gripe is, is that the masses like something in the Halo 2 gameplay that you don't like, and subsequently your needs weren't met with the game, as you're part of a minority. Bungie could make more of an effort to appeal to this dichotomy of opinion, as you said by giving more options in custom games and such. There has been a sizeable amount of their core fans that are part of this overall minority, so perhaps in this next game they will try to cater more to both worlds.
As for your comments about graphics vs. gameplay, graphics form an important part of immersion in the game world, and to keep up with (and surpass) the competition, as well as making the most out of the new hardware, they do need to push this angle as well as improving gameplay. The reason that most of the things we hear about in updates are graphical or feature based is, I assume, that these sorts of things are tangible and accumulate over time. Something like gameplay will be worked on constantly by a dedicated part of the workforce, and not only will it be constantly changing (without clear accumulation) but it is by nature, difficult to articulate. Telling them to work more on gameplay and less on graphics isn’t really possible with their current work flow, as these are parallel processes done by separate teams.
Edit:
It seems I got rather caught up in off topic matters. :p
I enjoyed this update as I have the last many. Hearing about the scale of battles and areas was intriguing, it really sounds like it's going to be epic. Talk about graphical improvements was also interesting, hats off whoever had the seagull idea, odd minds make games. :) I'm still surprised that so many people complain about these updates. If you aren't particularly interested in what is mentioned, you don't need to register your disapproval, many of us I'm sure enjoy hearing about these sort of things. They're not being forced to do these updates, I for one am glad they choose to.
