Recently Bungie has changed the format of their website in order to improve on a few things and better serve its purpose. When I first saw the changes, I will admit, I was a bit shocked at how much of a drastic change the new website was. Oftentimes, I would visit Bungie.net in order to check out people's stats and games and levels, etc. It worked very nicely for me. I could easily track my level and know when I was about to level up and when I was about to loose my level. It was just very efficient for me to find out the specifics of my gaming history and it was a huge asset to me as a player of Halo 2. However, since the update to the new layout/format, I have found some flaws in the system, that in my opinion, should be fixed.
One major flaw that I have noticed is one that many of my friends have noticed as well. I'll explain through personal experience. When I play matchmaking, I often track my experience bar after each game to see where I am at as far as level goes. If I had lost a few games and I wanted to see if I was going to lose my level, I could simply check Bungie.net and tell by the experience bar. When I saw that I had very little bar, I knew I was about to lose my level, so I knew to stop. With the new format this is not possible. I have drawn some parallels from the old format to the new one and this is what I have found specifically: In the old format when a person had "no bar" of experience, then it was a sign they were about to lose their level. The way the new format is set-up, a person technically never has "no bar" meaning there is always some experience left on a persons level, even though if they lose a game, they will in fact lose their level. I had found this out the day of the update after I (my gamertag is ENZO911 <- that is the letter 'O') noticed that what used to be a level 41 with no bar (on the old format of Bungie.net) of experience (in Team Snipers) suddenly turned into a 41 with some bar of experience (on the new format of Bungie.net). Using my better judgment, I concluded immediately that there is actually no chance of me losing a game and not losing my level, so I have not played since then because of it. Although this may not be that big of a deal to some gamers, I know that, unfortunately, I cannot rely on the experience bar or "leveltracker" of any given level that I may achieve- provided by the new Bungie.net - from now on. The other options are to go to other websites that either don't track nearly as fast, or are just plain inconvenient and unorganized, instead of using the Bungie.net. Because of this I have found that I can't track my exact experience bar, and rely on just plain guessing and approximating (which is neither a legitimate nor efficient method). It leads to some unfortunate circumstances where I end up losing my level way before I thought I would.
Another flaw is the "gametracker". In the old format, a person could check out their games and see the list and the pages of games that they have played. Now, most of the old format has transferred to the new format except one thing; the way the games show up when they are purged. In the old format, when a person had cheated or some other circumstances had occurred, a game was purged, or in many cases, multiple successive games were purged. It was obvious to tell who was cheating by checking what games were purged. Now, what helped the most was when identifying the purged games by the dark blue font they were in. That simple characteristic of a purged game helped so much to quickly identify certain games for certain reasons. Now, I know what I am about to reveal does not apply to most people, but its the main reason that I relied on the dark blue font to identify purged games. I help run a gaming community called IGC (International Gaming Community), which is a community for respectful, legitimate Halo 2 players. We have a strict no-cheating policy and we perform background checks on everyone before they are allowed to enter our community. With the old format, when we did a background check of a person's games, the first thing we looked for were those dark-blue purged games, because most of the time, when a person has more than a few of those in succession, they are/have been cheating and we knew to not allow them in. As you can see, that is no longer possible in the new format. Again, I know that my case is a specific case that probably doesn't apply to many people, but its another example of a simple and effective feature that is no longer available in the new Bungie.net . I am, however, confident that I am not the only person who finds these old features useful in certain situations to identify purged games.
Yes, I know, these are rather minor issues and I might just be picky...But, do I not have a legitimate point? From what I have seen/experienced from the new format of the experience bar/"leveltracking" system, its hardly serving its purpose. And I am aware that my specific case involving the purged games setup is probably something most people will never even notice, but there are some things that the old website did very well that have been overlooked and I think that if at all possible, that something be done to try to improve upon these flaws in the new system.
I have not yet encountered/noticed other flaws in/on the website yet, and I hope I never do find any more, however if you have found some flaws in the new format and/or miss some of the old features of the old format, then please feel free to post them here for Bungie to see and potentially fix.
What do you think? Do you like the new format over the old format? Do you like the old format over the new format? Do you like both formats equally? Your opinion is greatly appreciated so please post about what you think and say what you have voted for!
Thanks,
ENZO911
P.S. Bungie, If you could also post this subject into the VOTING BOOTH section of the FORUMS, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
