its the internet man. deal with it.

Does this being the internet have anything to do with this topic? I think not..

it has everything to do with the topic. people act like they do because the internet gives them a chance to be completely anonymous. some(most) people(immature kids) see it as a chance to be a complete ass, because they know no one can do anything about it in "real life" and they think its fun.

That doesn't justify it. They're just exploiting complete anonymity like most people do.

But seriously, that's one of the contributing factors for me sticking to groups/septagon only. I used to go to the flood and Mombasa. But this, and a few other reasons, have changed me mind.

Music is power.

Well, there are those of us here who are interested in the meaning behind Bungie's games (and it's pretty safe to say that few studios put more hidden and philosophical meaning in their games than Bungie) and in sharing our thoughts about them with others. It's just that the people who are trolling these (and probably a lot of other) forums are very loud, persistent, and difficult to forget. It's up to us to make a commitment to be courteous and to think before speaking (typing.) We all have the opportunity to be smart about what we say. The more of us who show respect to each other here, the easier it will be for the ninjas to deal with the frustrating minority. Keep up the good work mods, and everybody who still contributes to making this community intelligent and unique.

Well said, all of you.

Just because something is gonna happen NO MATTER WHAT, does NOT justify it. We have no rights. The internet is in no way, free. and if u have any doubts, read the Code of Conduct. I sorta retreated to groups as well, but even now, I'm stuck in the Septagon and New Mombossa. Halo 3 and The Flood are nearly nothing but eternally burning flames now...

And everything else is very much becoming inactive. Yes, Bungie DOES put a lot of thought. If I began right now, you'd have to stay awake for hours to read it all. Flaming will never end, but hopefully, so will the discussions. If the flames cannot be extinguished, then neither can the hopes.

I said this on Friday Code, but i will repeat it. There are a handful of people in the Flood who pretty much live there. I won't name names but the Mods know who they are and anyone who hangs out there knows who they are. They flame any topic that isn't about AIDS or themselves. They think they're clever by butchering the english language by writing PHAIL! and PWNT! in just about every single post of theirs. They're all friends along with a few flunkies who follow their lead when the flaming starts.

Fortunately it's only a handful of kids. Unfortunately this handful of kids post in the Flood all...........day...........long.

Your thread is a perfect example of what is not needed (flaming).

Now had the people who flamed the pro wrestling gave reasons they disliked it and presented them in a reasonable fashion I think it would be fine. But seeing as most people lack the restraint to do that you get flaming. It really isn't hard to just stay out of a thread you don't enjoy or just to say "I don't like pro wrestling because..." this leads to more meaningful discussion.

It's an online forum, it's always been like this and it isn't going to change. I understand where you're coming from, but really all you can do is just suck it up.

I don't know where people get off thinking that they, themselves represent the entire forum, but they don't. I'm getting sick of not being able to talk about the things that I like around here because there are jackasses who can't accept that there are people with different interests then them.

Code don’t be afraid to talk about what you like in the forums. If people want to express their opinions or be immature about what you say that is there issue and they will most likely be looked over by the mods. But really if you want to talk about off topic things I am sure you can find a forum that specifically meets your needs on a Google search.

One does not simply grenade jump into Mordor...

The best thing to do is to just remain civil and nice. No need to even respond to the flames: Just keep the discussions on topic and respond to that, ignoring any useless words/ideas. As you continue to ignore the flamer, and s/he continues to flame, s/he will gradually become more isolated in his/her world where no one is responding anymore. They want response, so don't give it to them. :)

That is why I am glad B.net has ninjas. They help reduce the flaming.

Flaming becomes worse and worse in the flood. Its one giant spam hole. If you post something non-bungie that you like, people will flame you if they don't like it.

While this is correct from a certain perspective, I do not subscribe to this kind of doom-and-gloom theory of bungie.net. I believe that Bungie's fanbase has grown and that b.net simply needs to make adjustments.

With greater size comes greater anonymity. With greater anonymity comes less care and responsibility. For a real-life example of this, just look at the everyday rudeness of people in large cities as compared with small towns (I live in a large city -- Washington DC -- and I am not knocking anyone else who also does and thinks of themselves as polite). Bungie.net can be similarly compared. As it grew and collected more attention, many people have become attracted to a place where they can cause trouble and be rude without any real-life consequences. At the same time, the feeling of personal responsibility for bungie.net and the sustainment of the Community has faded away for some and never existed for many who arrived too late and never decided to care.

These facts, however, do not necessarily mean that bungie.net is going down the tubes or anything. Clearly, there is still a dedicated base of fans (like me and most other regulars) who care about the Community and making it better. For people like us, moaning about the bungie.net of the past is unproductive, considering that you're right: it is never coming back. But that doesn't mean that the bungie.net of the future is bound to turn into a haven of spam, flames, and other rudeness. It just means that we have to step up our efforts and keep coming up with ways to keep the Community strong and fun. That means coming up with new ideas to encourage good posts, new ideas to keep things interesting and clean, and trusting in the b.net administrators to do the same.

Achronos has mentioned that he has a new system coming sometime in the future that the "regulars" will really appreciate. I look forward to seeing what that idea will be. In the meantime, it would help if instead of saying things like, "Alas, the old bungie.net is gone and the new bungie.net is going to suck forever because of bad posts and bad members," the forum regulars instead used their considerable collective brainpower to make things better.

Ignore the flamers and report them if they get out of hand. The Flood can still be a fun place. Certain topics like music tend to start a lot of flaming.

I didn't read through all of this so this may have already been posted. One thing I learned a long time ago when I was first introduced to the webnetz was that anonymity brings out the worst in people. Xbox live, for example, proves my point even more. When people are hiding behind their "masks/usernames" they will do and say just about anything. Every forum is different but Bungie does have a lot more kids on it than most other forums. With kids comes even more immaturity. I had a similar problem as you (Code Zero) in a topic about Linkin Park in the Flood. Just because I like Linkin Park I was being set afire from some know it all kid who thinks Linkin Park is emo. Basically there really isn't much we can do about it except grow a thick skin.

Seriously. Particularly in the Flood, if someone makes a topic about something that is generally looked down upon in public, they immediately get flamed. Runescape, Wrestling, rap music, Sony, etc. I don't know where people get off thinking that they, themselves represent the entire forum, but they don't. I'm getting sick of not being able to talk about the things that I like around here because there are jackasses who can't accept that there are people with different interests then them. Some people have the nerve to label certain things as "g@y" when they're on a Halo forum which can just as easily be labeled as "nerdy" or "geeky" (which isn't necessarily true). This thread is a shining example of what I'm talking about. I think that people who feel the need to flame other people because of their personal interests should be blacklisted.

Sad but true, that isn't even horrible flaming. That seems moderate if you ask me, but in retrospect they did flame, but I feel as if you are taking it too seriously. They were not targeting you in specific as much as they were flaming the topic, in which case they are only voice a negative opinion of wrestling. Sure, you should never use the term "g@y" towards anything, let alone as a negative term.

Agreed. I have looked at the boards many times, and the utter lack of self-respect and control some people have, on places like here, and Xbox Live is astounding.
This is not just a bungie.net thing, it's widespread.

As to what I think should be done, perhaps some form of 'streamlined' feedback system, but again, that's problematic, more so for Bungie themselves.

You know, the attitude of people here has gotten pretty disgusting, as of late. Of course, I wouldn't go point out members in the Flood, so much, as I would point out members who think it's their purpose in life to fix things that don't really need fixing. They present a problem, and try to make it a large issue, when it's really not. It's kind of disgusting seeing all these threads talking about how crappy or terrible Bungie.net is, and how the members are all scum, and how things need to be changed, fixed, or modified to make it better.

Sure, there are some things wrong with this website, but they're getting fixed, and I can easily browse around and post without people causing problems. The fact that we can even have a thread like this without any spam proves this forum is doing fantastically. Threads like this are very similar to people who complain about things in the 'real world' that are completely pointless. People feel like they need a purpose in life, so they go and make deals about small, minor problems and try to get them 'fixed', so they can be the hero.

I have a feeling that's what a lot of these threads are all about.

Also, if you don't enjoy the attitude of the Flood, don't go there. But nothing you say here will really change that. People act how they will act. Perhaps, Code Zero, you're just annoyed that everything they do that annoys you is within the boundaries of the Bungie.net rules that have been set in place. If it wasn't, they would all be blacklisted.

I'm a little tired of the "<this> is wrong with our community!" threads. They're probably the worst thing I can find on this entire website.

Now that problem is simpler than the flaming subject, this one you can control and no one else. The way to fix it is quite simple... don't click on it, therefore you don't read it, and bam problem fixed, now have a great day =)
