Subject: Suggestions for Groups (New Features)

I feel that the groups have always lacked some functionality and that this is the perfect chance for Bungie to improve upon what we currently know as the Group System.
There has been a bunch of idea tossed around, and the goal of this thread is to get all the ideas for Groups ONLY in one thread. I will update this list as new ideas are mentioned.

* Group chat system
* Group member online / offline
* Post counters for group forums
* Search feature for group forums
* The ability to PM all members
* The ability to PM all non-members that are in queue
* Group avatars (This would show in the same area your signature shows as a second avatar)
* Theme builder
* Color text for admins
* Customizable Database

Please post your ideas.

I don't really like the "second avatar" thing; a link to the group in your signature is usually sufficient. It would be nice to have a "Message All" option, but only for certain security roles. I also think that the Group Forum Search would be cool, but I would want it to be automatically enabled after the group gets a certain number of threads.

I agree with these:

* Group chat system - Chat room for groups? Sounds good to me.

* Search feature for group forums - Of course it'd be nice to find posts within groups.

* The ability to PM all members - This would help with weekly activities, etc.

* Group member online / offline - I'd like this for the whole of Bungie.net. Why just have it in groups?

I disagree with these:

* The ability to PM all non-members that are in queue - No purpose.

* Group avatars (This would show in the same area your signature shows as a second avatar) - This goes under the same reasoning as to why we wouldn't have custom images in groups, or the ability to post images.

* Post counters for group forums - No purpose. Curiosity? Too bad. This is a wasted feature.

Other Features I would like to see:
* The ability to assign colored text to security roles.
* Theme-builder, with a 'drag-n-drop' system. Easier to create themes and submit them.

Bungie listens to its fans! ^.^ | Ninja .II./ You
RCG: In ur base, steelin' ur flagz. | Watch the demo, then join the carnage!

• The ability to PM all non-members that are in queue - No purpose. - Sending out entry forms to see if the people in the queue are suitable for the group, or sending out the group rules/details so the pending members can see what it's about

• The ability to assign colored text to security roles. - Why..? On Bungie.net it's to distinguish them from normal members but in groups... They're too small
• Theme-builder, with a 'drag-n-drop' system. Easier to create themes and submit them. - Actually, I think that'd result in too many themes and they wouldn't be checked and accepted etc. etc... I'd like to see one that isn't simplified, but that has more scope for individual customisation. So not just themes submitted and accepted, but many options that you can alter about your group in real-time

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

* Group chat system
I do not think this is a great idea. Even in the most heavily populated groups, this feature would be underutilized and would probably not be worth the implementation effort. Just take a look at even the most active groups - sometimes even the most interesting forum posts do not receive responses for hours. In groups, the forums should serve as an adequate method of communication. Not only that, the forums leave a record and a trail of what's been happening in the group. That makes it easier for the admins to ensure that groups are complying with the b.net terms of use.

* Search feature for group forums
Yes.

* The ability to PM all members
Yes.

* Group member online / offline
I do not see much purpose in this except maybe for Clans (as opposed to Chapters).

* The ability to PM all non-members that are in queue
How long is the queue for your group that you can't just PM individually?

* Group avatars (This would show in the same area your signature shows as a second avatar)
No!

* Post counters for group forums
Maybe. I am not a member, nor would I be, of any group that would actually care how many posts you've made. But this idea might have merit to people who create free-for-all or spam-encouraging groups.

* The ability to assign colored text to security roles.
I've supported this idea in the past when others posted it, but have since read convincing arguments for and against it. I see reasons why responsible group administrators might be able to put this feature to good use, but there are also clear and convincing reasons that this feature should not be in place for some other group administrators. Personally, I think that many group administrators would want this idea only for "elitist" purposes. And you can bet that 99.9% of group administrators would make their own text "Achronos Gold." As a result, I'm kind of indifferent and would have absolutely no problem in keeping the status quo of having all group members type in the same color text.

* Theme-builder, with a 'drag-n-drop' system.
I'm not terribly excited about the horrifyingly gaudy and tacky themes that might be created. This is admittedly a personal preference, but I do not like groups because of the colors and the themes but rather because of the content and the people who are members of my groups. I think that theme builders would simply encourage more pointless groups because every single person would want their own group with a customized theme. Groups are hard enough to search through as it is. A theme builder could easily make it worse.

* (My idea) Better and More Customizable Database Features
This idea is, I concede, driven by my involvement in a group that concentrates less on discussion/forum posting and more on information and resource archiving. But I think that customizable databases would make such features MUCH easier to navigate and manage.

I like the idea about the customizable DB. That would really help in my group.

My twist on the idea about the ability to PM queued members is more like an auto PM that gets sent to members who queue up right away, but this wasn't my idea to begin with.

Color text in the group might be good for administrators.

A real time theme builder or scheme customization would be a very very nice feature.

Original post updated.

The group member online/offline would be nice for the entire site. (like a friends list on xbl)

One of the groups I'm part of (ODST Recon) has over 1300 members, so I think colored text would be pretty helpful, not to mention cool.

There are going to improve on the groups that is one of the many reasons why there are not Online right now.

I agree with a group chat system but I believe that it would be too much of a hassle for Bungie because an admin from the groups would have to be in the chartrooms to prevent the less than sophisticated members form causing issues. This would make Bungie have to make a new ninja for the chartrooms and that is too much work.

I agree with the group member online or offline that will be a handy tool for activity and reference.

I do not agree with the post counters I believe they are unnecessary.

I agree with a search feature for the groups it would come in handy for large groups.

I agree with the ability to PM all members that would come in handy for XBL but I think that ability should be a power that can be chosen to be given in the security roles

I do not agree to PM the members in the Queue it doesn’t have a purpose to me

A theme builder will not be permitted unless bungie enables you to pick from set themes they already have and mix and match. They would not allow it because some people are immature and would put inappropriate pictures on them.

I agree with custom text for admins it would be a nice change (Hopefully not orange)

I disagree with customizable databases they are already fine if you know how to use them

In regards to the theme builder, I believe it is more like a set of options that can be changed instead of changing everyone at once. All this would be pre-set by Bungie.

Post counters would be a waste of time IMO.

With the custom database, there was absoutly no functionality in what the groups had. You could post large articles, or something that was close but not exact to a spread sheet; that was it.

* Group chat system-Yes
* Group member online / offline-only in groups?
* Post counters for group forums-Perhaps this should be integrated into an "activity meter", but by itself it would suck
* Search feature for group forums-YES
* The ability to PM all members-sure
* The ability to PM all non-members that are in queue-auto PM... possibly, but this is obviously a major dream of yours. :P
* Group avatars-Teh Noes! I see no point.
* Theme builder-Yes
* Color text for admins-Might get messy... wort wort wort
* Customizable Database-Hm... sounds hard... oh well, I want it.

* Group chat system - (No. I doubt it'd be used enough by even the larger groups.)
* Group member online / offline - (Maybe. It's a useless feature to me, but it may be handy for admins.)
* Post counters for group forums - (No. Not worth implementing and may just cause more problems.)
* Search feature for group forums - (Like it.)
* The ability to PM all members - (I would enjoy this feature greatly.)
* The ability to PM all non-members that are in queue - (I'd love this feature. I PM all new members in the queue when they join to welcome them to the group and help them get a start.)

* Group avatars - (Nah.)
* Theme builder - (The theme builder will come back in the future. If anything I'd like to be able to tweak themes to my liking.)
* Color text for admins - (Like it. Many members don't read the rank chart I have for KOTOR, and they don't know who the staff members are.)
* Customizable Database - (If they're anything like the old databases, then yes. I also want to be able to organize things by order of importance, not when they were created.)
