I enjoy both, each offers something different. I only play campaign (legendary only, both games), no live connection here and no one to play multiplayer with. Halo ROCKS for the personal level of the combat. It is 95% close quarters combat. There is much more satisfaction in killing covie up close and personal. For all of those who lament the Library, it is one of the best constant battles in gaming. The flood come in waves, and you have to be a bit tactical in how to defeat them, and use the carriers to your advantage. For all out bloodletting, it rules. Having said that, Halo 2 offers the player alot of different ways to approach each battle. Outskirts and Delta Halo for example can be run many different ways, from ground level slogging it out, to high ground picking them off. The choice of vehicles during many levels also adds variety. Halo is an outstanding game, and I have never gone away from it for more than a month or so. When I want a break from H2 or Doom III I come back to Halo. Once I have played it through again, off to H2 again.
The added bonus of the skulls makes H2 a fun play. The first time I had a combo of Sputnik and Grunt BDP, and got a grunt in the head, I damn near fell off my bed laughing from laughing so hard. Yes the skulls screw with the physics, but they enhance the game overall. Deaths of the chief, flying thru the air for half a mile, well even those are a riot!
For the Halo fan, its all about the battles, the scenery and the story line.
For the Halo 2 fan, its about online play (from what I read anyway), the ability to play the arbiter (lame as those levels can be at times) and the strategy you have to use for the distance battles (weapon selection and chosing your targets by priority) and VARIETY.
Personally, I thank Bungie for both, as they have given me alot of enjoyment over the years and haven't gotten stale. I do not have a 360, and I am not sure if I will bother. We will see what the game offers first, then decide.
As for those of you who live to find things to complain about re: either game, remember please, they are entertainment, ENJOY THEM, glitches, bad spots and all. Otherwise, invest millions in technology, people and facility, and start your own perfect game company, either that, or let Bungie do their work in peace.......
