*Warning Ramble ahead*
I agree with Lurker_77's points and same for Camoflauged Virus's points, but I have some things to add...
There are differences with the flood AI's and characteristics for both games. The first were easy to kill, but thier numbers would roll over an inexperienced player. And that the first's flood were extremely idiotic, *throw a stickey at thier feet, they all turn and look at it... WHAM! Flood bodies drop from the sky*. As for the second's flood were much harder to kill, especially the little -blam!-s, and they were smaller in number. When they were large in number, they would be able to whipe the floor, even with an experienced player who hasn't memorized spawns. Oh, and if one flood knew where you were, all of it's buddies nearby did too, which the in the first one, the flood would have to make a gurgling noise. Ambushes were alot better in the original halo too, walking into the middle of a room only to realize the flood are leaking out of every nook and cranny.
Heh, the -blam!- system is so funny... Anywho...
The rockets were also funnier in the first, especially in the library. *walk out into the middle of the room, a couple of figures are standing off in the distance, suddenly a dot appears in the middle of them. You wonder to yourself(you are a noob, or just massively forgetful), what the hell is that? And too late you realize... ROCKET!!! WHUMP! Your corpse flys 20 ft back*
Oh pending the AI's against each other in the first was much easier then the second. All you had to do was kill the guy you were shooting at and hide. Where as in the second they ran after you for a while, unless shot.
The easter eggs were much funner to find in the first, because they weren't that publicized, and it was satisfying to find them.
That and killing people with a sniper or rocket launcher was much more satisfying to see in the first, because you would lead a rocket and have an unsuspecting hog drive right into it and flip end over end. Or Snipe a tank driver that is keeping your team pinned.
This was also covered a bit, team work, teamwork in the first meant that two spartans could take down one elite with ease. Example me and my friend playing, he was sniping grunts with his pistol, I was shooting an Elite with an AR, I called "Left" and he looked, pistol whipped the elite once, and I took the finishing blow right after him. As for the second, I'm not even going to get into an elite's intellegence.
And I believe this was covered, but the options that could be taken in the first was better. Where as the second had a preset path that you had to take every time you played. And the AI drivers always took the same path for where they drove.
One Last time this was covered, but I am improving on it, the music for Halo was much cooler and better placed, and the saying and overall feel of the sounds were more memerable and whitty. Like when an elite would want to charge, he would let out a battle roar, or when a marine was near dead he would curse and fight like a wild dog to keep himself alive.
Finally the first's marines were much better in large numbers, and sucked alone. Where as a team of two snipers or BR riflers could take out a group of grunts or jackels with ease.
Overall, I guess what I'm trying to get across is fun and satisfaction (Halo CE) is better than an extremely hard chalenge (Halo 2).
