YEAH, PWN THAT FEETUS!

Do Moderators have the ability to lock or stop people from posting in an entire forum? For example, if everyone in the Halo 2 forum decides to post spam, intentionally, could a mod stop the forum for a short amount of time, and then get rid of all the spammers?

If they can't do you think that they should have the power, or only a few mods(the top mods) have the power, or should noone have the power?

I'm sure that Achronos or some other member of the web team has the option to shut the forum down completely. Kinda like a giant, red "STOP" button.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I don't have that ability. I don't really need it though. It may take a little while, but I'll catch up on the spammers eventually.

I really doubt that any other mods have that ability either. Perhaps admins can do that, but I honestly don't know. If they have that option, I've never seen them use it.

Interesting idea though.

"What if" scenarios are so fun, aren't they? ;)

The moderators would just blacklist all the spammers, easily clearing the forum.. It's a waste of time, on the spammers part.

No reason, as I've just mentioned.. Blacklisting is just as effective. Locking a forum makes it so all the non-spammers can't post. If this was the case, then groups of spammers would go on "Forum-locking runs" to see how much chaos and anger they could cause. A feature like this would simply give them more motivation to spam.

I work for the Department of Defense.

While there is a Posting limit, theres no locking or banning limit.

lol

Why the hell are you looking at this? Get out.

And no group invites, you jerk. I'm not interested.

I believe that would only help the spammers "win". They could start massive spamming when it unlocks again.

You can make only so many spam accounts a day. Eventually those will all be brought down and if you have no sort of life whatsoever, you'll continue to fail at pissing Bungie off.

The admins might have like a "Smite all users" button if we started a revolt or something.....

I'm sure Achronos can switch any forum to read-only, which would disable replies (hence the name).

Well, Recon could just use his "Open All Links" button.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

Neat idea, but I see one very large problem with it. If only one board got shut down, the spammers would all move to another. And so would all the people making threads asking why the board was shut down.

And after the forum opened back up, people would make threads asking what happened. That would happen even if all the boards were closed, instead of just one.

Well I believe Achronos said something to the effect that if Bungie.net was under any serious threat at all that the servers would be shut down. However he also said that it would be nearly impossible to get through their security to hack them or attempt a DoS.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

It has happend on other sites, especially political blogs.

If enopugh people organize and attempt a spam attack, they could potentially mess up the entire site.

It was on the news awhile back, people taking the the net wars to seriously.

Some people may see that as a challenge.

Just because you want to play with it, TGP, that doesn't mean it's the same type of tool. You tool.

You don't know how long I debated over using the word "tool" in my post.

And I just got a call from my attorney saying that the International Court of Justice has ruled that my work falls outside the jurisdiction of the Hague and Geneva Conventions.

Now that you've taken the time to look at my sig, I actually regret not providing you with something more worthwhile.

If Recon can stop my heart with his devastatingly good looks, then I'm sure he would have no trouble halting a forum.
