I installed Vista but It was hopeless for gaming. So I repartitioned with some software to install XP and it messed up the Vista installation. I gamed away on XP for a few days then decided to repair Vista. Now when I turn the computer on, it auto-loads Vista.

I need an option to chose which installation of Windows I want to boot when I turn the computer on. Why am I not getting one?

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I just don't know. I used Google to search for "dual boot windows vista and xp" and got a bunch of results. Maybe one of them will help you.

Firstly, how was Vista hopeless for gaming? Driver problems are quite frankly expected this early after release, have patience.

Secondly, why would you use another piece of software to create a second partition on your hard drive? Assuming this a new computer, you have all the install disks, and no data you want to keep, all you had to do was delete the existing partition, then make two new partitions, install Vista on the primary, XP on the secondary, and your good to go.

Your Vista instilation got messed up because you installed XP on the Vista partition and overwrote the Windows directory, if you had installed XP on the second partition you supposedly made, you would not have affected the Vista instilation at all.

Start a new install, create a Vista partition as big as you want it to be, install all your software etc. make sure it works, then do an XP install, making a new partition of the unpartitioned space.

Alter your startup settings so that the screen that shows operating systems is up for 10 sec or something so you can see it, it may have been turned off, and it should ask you when you boot up which operating system you want to boot too.

Why can't you install Halo on Vista?

You CAN install Halo on Vista. I would imagine the OP's machine isn't powerful enough to run Vista and/or Halo at the Quality settings they have chosen.

- Note, that's split up so that it's allowed :)

There's a nice little app that you can install in either XP or Vista and it will allow you to choose which OS you want to boot to when the comp starts... of course you have to configure it, but there's instructions and what such.
