Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

Just a thought. With sigs now less visible and certainly smaller than they used to be, does that mean that (when they return) group membership will increase at a slower rate? I certainly don't look at everyone's sig nowadays, and I'm guessing most people don't look at mine, but with many paths to group membership being in sig links, does this mean less people will be joining?

If your group relies on signatures for recruitment, then I guess so.

Actually, I'm almost hoping groups would just become.. Less. Such as, not allow certain criteria of member to create a group.. Honestly, Classifieds are still there, and people can view your signature just fine. Making intelligent posts helps people become more interested in you, I would assume.

I've almost found it a habit now to mouse-over avatars on every post..

That's why there is the classifieds and even more reason to visit that forum. Honestly that is where I would want to put my group advertisement because: Everyone can see it, the forum is dedicated to that material (specific advertising is good for groups), and it provides an easy mean of advertising. Putting a link in a sig wasn't hard, but generally you would have to move some stuff around and go to TinyURL to format the URL. Now with more emphasis on The Classifieds there is a 10,000 char limit (as it always has been).

Meh, I like the current sig format, but it was nice to see peoples sig's right below their post. What jmh said was true, if you rely on group advertising through your sig, then I would resort to other ways to advertise; classifieds, PM's.

anyone that was bothered with pms before will now get tons more. anyone that recruited for their group will now have a ton of more work to do...

i like the sigs but i still like a little something to let people know more about you.

I think most members of all groups are the result of signature links.

Very few people visit the Classifieds. Many, if not most, people are irritated by Group Invite PMs. We've had threads complaining about spam PMs, threads about the udelessness of the Classifieds, but never one complaint about signatures. Well there was one but that was about "offensive" content being put in there...

When asked how they found it, most members of a relatively large group I'm part of said "link in someone's signature". Next most common was people actively telling their friends, not one was because of being spammed by PM or seeing the ads in the Classifieds (yes, we posted ads in there).

Taking away signatures will cause a lot less people to find groups; unless when the groups come back there's also another way to advertise them that's actually visible then no matter how cool they are there is going to be far less use of them.

depending on how they come back im already in enough groups, but even though im settled activity can still go down. i've joined quite a few groups from pms. being as i dont often post in the public threads i usually know the sender or at least have seen some posts from him. if some one sends me an invite i try to check the group out, but it seems there are hardly any groups worth joining anymore. most have resorted to off-topic threads and what used to be considered spam.

simply looking at PF you can see that pming is an effective recruiting method, but its a pain for both sides. i dont mind getting messages, mainly becuase i usually only get on when im bored anyway, but sending pm recruits is definitely a pain. sigs weren't the most effective, but they at least did some. i havent checked yet, but hopefully the bathroom reader is still 'circulating'. and yes the classifieds is pretty much useless... hopefully when groups come back they will have some solution to this problem.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Well The sigs are the number one ay to flaunt a group without talking to people.

Now that sigs are usless for that work, i guess we can PM spam eachother!
