Would you support a 'sent messages' feature in the message center?

I just think it could help a bit for a number of reasons.

Perhaps you'd like to share those reasons? I know it's confusing to get a PM and not know what you said to make them reply to it, but I don't think it would be worth the clutter of hundreds of outgoing messages.

It's easier just to quote the person and send it back. That's what I do.

Yes I support this. I don't even know why we don't have one.....

That's what I always do. But not everyone does it- often times I struggle to remember what I sent in a message a couple days ago. I guess it's not that big a deal to have this feature, but it would certainly be nice!

I'd like to see an Outbox, because I sometimes forget whether or not I replied to someone's message.

Recon, I have a better idea.

..
... If I can think of one...

That's actually quite an interesting idea. I'm not sure if I would ever use such a thing, but I suppose someone would. I know lots of group leaders who would love to have the ability to have a PM distribution list to let all the members know of: "Weekly going's on in the group" and that sort of thing.

Oh, oh, oh!

I have an idea, and it is a good one.

We've recently been talking about the member trust system and how it is collecting data. We've got plenty of tools to assist with the negative side of membership (blacklisting, thread locking, warnings, etc.) but one question that has always been tough is "what would be a good reward to offer members who are in good standing and have shown themselves to be trustworthy?"

How about this?

The ability to point your PM traffic (inbound and out) to a mail account (POP or webmail) so that the member can then manage their incoming PM's, see their sent PM's, and even use PM distribution lists (fabulous for group admins). Such a feature would be an "Elite Reward" and only given to those members who are trusted by the site and if abused, they would loose those privs permanently.

If would involve making a POP, hotmail, gmail, etc. gateway, but I think that it could be done. The reward would be beneficial to those who earned it and the gateway could monitor traffic for abuse (PM spambotting, etc.).

Does that basically mean using your actual e-mail account for bungie.net communications? Sorry I didn't understand it, I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to computers (hence why my 360 is not yet connect to Live...can't get the damn router working right).

You missed the point like Vader missed the banshee, your whole argument is covered in bees.
Stop sending me group invites -blam!-s!

I don't see the point in your idea Recon. I mean many forums already have something like what you said (except this one) which is sorta like webmail except only for forums. They have all the features you speak of without the hassle of a webmail system.

I understand that there are other forums that have more robust PM features, or that completely hand off to member-email for messages and notifications.

Bungie.Net doesn't appear to have that framework and I recall Achronos mentioning that (forgive me for paraphrasing) "there are no plans to make the PM system more like email", which I can completely understand. Depending on how the site's features are structured, it could be a huge revamp of the system for very little gain.

That was why I thought my suggestion is clever. Not because of the "features" that it would offer, because it really wouldn't offer any. It would simply be Bungie.Net handing off the text and address information of PM's to an (approved and user linked) external system and THAT system is what handles the features, archiving, and storage of the messages.

So you're saying that it would be too much work to make the current PM system more into a email system? If the want for a better PM system is desired from members, wouldn't bungie want to integrate some sort of 'sent mail' or 'outbox' feature? Or is bungie more concerned about how much work it would take for "very little gain."

I cannot, do not, and will not speak on behalf of Bungie or the Bungie Web-Team. When it comes to them and their plans, I am simply another member of this site and community. If I gave that impression, I offer my apology.

I am only recalling (possibly incorrectly) a statement that was made in the past. The statement that I recall was along the lines of that (at least at that time) the effort required was one of the reasons that such a feature was nowhere near the "top of the list". I don't know if it really went through a cost/benefit analysis or not.

Perhaps the Latest Hawtness changes everything. I don't know. I recall hearing that the site's new construction makes changes and improvements far easier to implement, but as to specifics? I have no information.

Alright, thats fine. To me it would make it a whole lot easier to implement a better PM system. I wouldnt know why it would take alot of effort to revamp a greater part of the site to include this though.
