I blame stosh.

Proud tester of the Halo 3 beta.

I think we should have forum ranks in the forums just like in the elderscrolls forums!!! That made me incredibly active there and I posted 50 times withing 30 minutes to gain higher rank! It would really improve the activity here. Im not saying that theres bad activity in the forums, just that it could have been better.

Prepare to be bombarded with people telling you how and why this is a bad idea. I could honestly care less. Blah! Elitism! Elitism!

And that's why we don't have ranks. ;)

That's not activity. That's spam.

Actually, post counts and ranks related to them are all hidden because they cause people to do exactly as described in the OP; plain ol' spam. Quality > Quantity.

If forum ranks mean that we can expect more posts like this from members like you then it's obviously a bad idea.
You were even kind enough to illustrate why it's a bad idea. I'll even embolden to excerpt to which I'm referring. It's the forum equivalent of boosting.
What's wrong? Having trouble leveling up in Team Slayer?

And this is exactly why we don't have a system like ranks.

These kinds of things work for other forums, but Bungie.net (as a whole) is a bit to immature to handle even montages being posted. It's because of the lack of maturity in the community why a lot of cool features can't (won't) be implemented.

It's a shame, really. But hey, what can ya do?

Yeah... Except forum ninjas, master ninjas and theme masters.

Ninja, Master Ninja and Theme Masters are not above the rules. We just feel obliged to follow the rules pretty cleanly seeing as how we are the ones in charge of enforcing them.

Obviously it doesn't make them above the rules, but they truely are ranks, maybe not in the way that the topic creator was thinking, but they're still positions that come with benefits and responsibilities.

Theme masters aren't any more powerful. They just have cool avatars. Of course, the ninjas are deadly.

Yours is a mistake of locality. We may not be more powerful here, as a certain... however our potency rises porportional to the sum of the last mention of our names in minutes by the cube of our distance from Bungie.net - for a given value of "potency".

Actually strike my last, it's just clocked in to 02/04/07 WET.

Ninja powers pale in comparison to what creativity can do.

That is not what your mom told me last night. BURN!! XD

The way it is setup now works pretty well. I would like to see more content available for good members as a reward. A title would just increase the amount of useless posts in my opinion. As for the Ninjas and Theme Masters we are just normal members like you. Ninjas just get a different avatar for our time that we put into enforcing the rules. The Them Masters have them for creating group themes that were accepted for the whole community to use in group creation.

P.S.
As for Ninjas being normal members that is only mostly true. We tend to hold Pezza a little higher because of his dashing good looks and his Australian accent just makes everybody swoon.

That's odd, it didn't show the "edited by Pezza" line on your last post there Achilles...

What kind of content would you like to see? I admit that I only ask because every kind of added content I can think of is flawed. I cannot think of any type of added content that would be appropriate to give only to some users. Perhaps a forum only for those users, but do you really want to draw good role models away from the main forums? I'm just curious as to what kind of content you're thinking of.

On the other hand, I do not think that users with titles earned by being "good members" would increase their spam. If anything, they'd be more careful about following the rules in order to set a good example and, to a lesser extent, avoid losing their title.

That's because everybody genuinely likes him. Or bungie.net no longer adds the "edited by" tag. Sounds like fun for when groups come back. Muahahaha.

Post counts are lame and seriously encourage spamming. I'm new here, but it's nice to see Bungie knows what the hell they're doing on all fronts! Kudos to Bungie!
