Subject: Why not HALO 2 for Macs?

Why the hell are you looking at this? Get out.

And no group invites, you jerk. I'm not interested.

Pretty much what Alien said. Just as they're trying to force people onto the 360, they're also trying to force people onto Vista. The only solution for mac users would be to get a windows vista dual-boot, but don't count on M$ relinquishing their clutches on a product that might make people buy vista. It's pretty much competitive business.

EDIT: Your poll doesn't match your title. Perhaps it should be "should there be a mac port for Halo 2?" I would like that, because I don't want to actually buy Vista just for Halo 2.

However, according to my Economics teacher who spent several years as a stock broker, Microsoft is the majority share-holder in Apple. Microsoft pretty much controls the computer market, so they could theoretically put Halo 2 onto Mac.

PLEASE DO NOT SAY STUFF LIKE 'MACS SUCK 'MUHAHAHA'. Thank you. If Bungie is making HALO 2 for Vista, why not make HALO 2 for Macs? There's this new thing called Cider that makes it much faster to port games from PC's to Macs, but it has to be on Intel Macs only; luckily I'm using one of those right now. Plus, I with mann Mac users that bought HALO: Combat Evolved for MacHopefully, Bungie takes this in consideration....

What a scary thought. I'm surprised they haven't tried to liquidate apple or something like that. Then we'd all be listening to Zunes.

The past 50 threads about halo 2 for mac have started pc-mac wars and eventually got locked. So why even make one? We all know macs suck for games anyway, so it's pointless.
And theres bootcamp, Apple's only choice for gamers.

What confuses me is that Halo CE was made for both macs and PC, even when it was all controlled by microsoft. Sure gearbox made it, but they did it with bungies permission, which asked permission from microsoft.

That is a major misconception in the computer market. Back in like 1996, Microsoft bought a bunch of Apple shares to keep them up and running until they were able to run on their own. Part of that agreement was for Microsoft to keep developing Mac software as well which is still going today. Currently, Microsoft doesn't own Apple in any way what so ever. Apple bought back all of those shares ages ago. Microsoft has absolutely no say in what Apple does. Don't let anyone fool you. Steve Jobs owns like 68% of all the Apple shares, so he's the primary share holder, not Bill Gates. For this reason, from a economic standpoint, Microsoft wouldn't be making the best business decision by allowing Mac users the opportunity to play games like Halo 2 Vista.

Here is a decently up to date list of shareholders, and as you can see, Jobs pretty much holds a good majority with over 5 million shares.

Cheers.

Thanks for posting that, my Eco teacher hasn't been a broker for several years now, and I guess he was mistaken.

Take a gander at this thread, it may answer some of your questions.

A site search for "Halo 2 Mac" or something of that nature might interest you as well.

My guess here is that in the buyout deal with Microsoft, Bungie retained the right to make a Mac/PC port of Halo (or to contract out said port, as the case turned out to be, with Gearbox, Westlake, and MacSoft handling the PC and Mac ports, respectively), after Halo for the Xbox went gold and shipped. My idea here is that Bungie did this out of the goodness of their hearts, after showing us Halo for the Mac and PC, there was no way they would go back on any implied promise that Halo would be brought to the computer.

I further conjecture that Bungie made no such deal with Microsoft concerning the possibilty of Halo 2 for Macs and PCs, leaving Microsoft to plan the direction Halo 2 would take (on to the Xbox and Vista, as it turned out).

Well....

1) Macs suck
2)Macs couldn't run it
3) Halo 2 is a MICROSOFT game and it would be a disgrace to run it on a Mac
4) Macs suck...did I already mention that?

I think I should be ported to macs. Why? Because bungie first started making games on mac. And they DID release Halo 1 on mac, they should release the sequel too. Not doing that would be, like releasing gears of war 2 on the Wii and not the 360.

You can play it on a Mac, just set it up to dual boot with vista. Hired Gun works for Microsoft Gaming Studio, and, Apple and Microsoft are rivals. If they do make a port it will be another 2 years before they release it.

So I can play it on a computer.... I dont have vista... and im not getting it.....
And I looked up that cider thing... They could port the whole game in less than a day....
I dont see what they would lose from it either... they get more money. They stand to gain even MORE from it...
