The forums have been going downhill altely for the following reasons:

1. The whole Halo 1 Vs. Halo 2 topics are getting annoying and I think they should be disallowed.

2. Asking if Bungie should add features and gameplay elements from games like Splinter Cell and GRAW are also getting annoying.

3. Threads about Halo 2 glitches (and why they are.are not cheating) are annoying aswell.

If Bungie could find ways to get rid of them, I think the forums could be a much better place.

There is a fundamental choice you have to make - see the forum for what it is and get past it, or dwell on it. You are dwelling on it. That kind of "meta-conversation" (talking about the forums) is not generally productive at this level. It is an emotional response about something (the groupthink and the people who contribute to it) that doesn't deserve that kind of attachment.

: D Agree!

Achronos on 'Forum Mentality'
Stop dwelling on it and get past it. Examine it logically: what can you do to alter the attitude of the groupthink and their stupidity? You can do nothing directly - you are but one person. What you can do is stop paying attention to it, have your conversations (avoiding "about the forum's attitude meta-topics") and add to the collective content.

I agree Achronos, but I also perceive an irony here.

See, although the 'meta-topics' (great words) often do not contribute in positive ways to the 'collective content', the 'collective content' often contributes greatly to a proliferation of 'meta-topics' (which in turn often proceed with the assumption that there is some group-think going on somewhere on which some loosely defined 'us' come to an agreement about some straw-man or forum terrorists or whatever)

*Scratches head*

In my view most of the 'meta-topics' are a waste of time though, precisely for the reasons you outline in your first paragraph; in particular a distinct lack of will to:

Obviously, those topics and those places here are of some use to the people that are annoying you. Let them use what they like here, and don't click the link that let's you waste your time with it. It's simple.

You're the reason that the O.P. made this topic.

Way to prove his point!

Actually, I agree with Matt. I am now afraid to post on any forum because if I make a simple mistake, I will be flamed like a steak on the grill. I just think that the whole Bungie.net forum community needs to lighten up, stop being so serious, and such. But that will never happen, so...yeah.

I think the main root of the "oversensitivity" and "brutality", is the sheer fluidity of the community. Due to the generally young age of people who come here, they tend not to stay long (they "grow out of b.net"), which also has the annoying effect of forcing away possibly more valuable and mature members who are simply astounded at the actions of some members. This is exactly evident in the OP; he says he'd like to take part in the community more, but just cant bring himself to slog through the sheer crap this communtiy throws at each other. Its for this reason its taken so horribly long to build up the solid core of members that are, now, finally beginning to show themselves as responsible; hell, i've even seen music threads go by in the flood without a rap v. rock debate kicking off. Most other communities take around 6 months to build up to the level of members who know each other and are always there, its taken nearly 3 years for this sub-community to grow to any reasonable size on b.net. Now, back to my original point :P, the fluidity of the community.

I have no qualms with the general youth of the community, i have to remember that i've been here just a shade under 3 years, i was probably much the same when i arrived, fresh from the amazing le337ness of Runescape. So, as changing the demographic of the incoming new members is almost impossible with the current situation, we must simply persist until those members have either developed into worthwhile, upstanding columns of the columns, or left. I don't think i need to ramble on more on this subject, as i'm sure Achronos 'n' co. have already thought down these lines, what with the groups overhaul and the general de-personalisation of the forums.

Edit: Well, i was going to edit this for clarity, but honestly, i think the only way this is going to be clear to someone is if they're on shrooms, weed and lsd, at the same time, sorry :P

LOL

Well, I have and I do, but not as we know it.

Also, believe me, 'yes man' is not a phrase I hear used to describe my perspectives very often. Still, if it makes you happy to come to that conclusion based on one post in one thread on one topic... be my guest!

Perhaps. Then again, perhaps I have the independence of mind to make my own judgements whilst failing to be impressed with real or imagined status on game developer's websites.

Perhaps, also, this very independence of mind has led to direct warnings where my views have been tenacious. Indeed, dare I say, perhaps I merely agreed because I thought what Achronos said made sense.

Perhaps, if one is inclined, one might even be able to verify such claims using the search feature.

Alas, perhaps one thinks that conjecture and evidence based on a single response to a single thread is a good enough basis from which make broad statements about an individual's integrity.

:)

Perhaps, if one cared enough about your stance to necessitate a search in order to seek out it's veracity.

Perhaps someone wanted to see how easily someone of such conviction could be manipulated into defending himself.

Perhaps.

Then again, perhaps somebody was likewise amused by another's stance. Perhaps, in addition, somebody was slightly bored and finding temporary refuge from a confusing problem by engaging in meaningless exchanges on Bungie.net....

Finally, perhaps I should try this pastie... before it goes stale.

You know the PM system was intended for more than just gossiping about cute boyz in your school right?

Could we keep the maturity level above borderline, please? That sentence is ripe with condescension.

You could send your suggestions via PM and save yourself (and me) a lot of grief (but you'd mainly be helping the authors of every thread below the one you decided to bump).

Don't say I don't do that. Believe me, I do send "correction PM's" frequently, only that time I just felt like posting in the thread. The fate of the universe doesn't hang in the balance between me sending a PM and posting in a thread. Does this mean I condone posting corrections in threads? Hell no. It just means that if 1/8 bad threads has a correction in the thread itself, it's not a gigantic problem. That's one thread VS seven PM's.

Besides, another reason why I sometimes feel less than eager to send a PM, is because in the event that I do, I generally get -blam!-ed at. The person being "corrected" takes it personally, attacks me, I explain my reasoning, they get even more pissed off, and they label me "Public Enemy of the Day".

Which leads me back to my original point, people taking things too seriously.

and also "hypocrite" for posting this thread.

Bumping a spam thread to say "please refrain from bumping" seems hypocritical to me (call me crazy?)

Did I say I was called a hypocrite for doing that? No, I was called a hypocrite for posting this thread.

You seem bitter about something - if it helps, your pain improves my day.

I don't know why people can't simply follow the rules, and when they break them, understand it is my position to enforce them.

I suppose it's also your position to simply wave a dismissive hand at any situation you see fit, all while quipping something equal parts irrelevant and condescending. Since it's your 'position' I'll assume you were drunk with power and can't be held accountable.

I thought it was pretty clear that we were having a discussion, not simply making a pyramid to take up space. I took your warning as I should've and decided to throw a joke your way. If anything it was a jab at the kiddies who post those threads. I do have one nagging pain though. It's a sympathy pain. I'm sorry that you saw my post as an attack rather than a simple joke. You could've just as easily played along and had some fun rather than try to condescend to me.

Well that's really not the point of shivs post. He was stating that he and Chomskyte/Roki7 were having a discusion, and was not really a quote pyramid, becuase a quote pyramid usually deals with spam, and whatnot. Although I am not one to agree with shiv...what Pezza did was merely stupid. That should not have counted as a quote pyramid or better yet, breaking the rules, becuase it was an argument (to an extent), and I actually liked reading each post until he ended it, thnx a lot Pezza. Bad moderating FTW!
