OK, yes, it is very true that I'm a dumb ass. I'm not denying that. However, isn't the whole point of a beta to increase the amount of users until you get someone dumb enough to try something you haven't anticipated.

I agree. Also point me to a game with better online multilayer then HALO 2? [/quote]

I guess the question is: where should I start? I have a feeling this is the FIRST time you've experienced on-line play and you're convinced that it doesn't get better.........well wake up fool cuz it didn't start with Halo 2.

I'll give Halo 2 the title of best Console on-line game........but let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

and for the record. Halo 1CE, Golden Eye and Perfect Dark 1 are CLASSICS. Halo 2 is........................a stepping stone to Halo 3..........that's it.

OK I will speak for Zuka Zamamee on this one because well we are the same person. You are right on that account that halo 2 is not the best online multiplayer game. I should have been more specific because obviously there are many better PC games, but as far as console goes, Halo 2 is king. HALO 1, Golden Eye and PD1 are classics no one will argue that. Halo 2 is its on game, and if Bungie learns from their mistakes to ultimately make Halo 3 better, who can blame them.

Unrelated to this post what was your original point of this thread.

Halo 2 maps, Beta test, Halo 3, Halo Wars, novels, movies, action figures, WTF !

And tees, jackets, three game edition (a 130$ one...), Halo Mobile... Well, they're a creative enterprise who use their creative stuff to release more and more merchandise. It's not a multi platform trilogy, so Bungie is only trying to earn more money, and use it to improve their enterprise and develop better games... if that's possible.

why a company like Bungie, insists on secrecy..........when a company like Rockstar,..........doesn't.

GTA doubles......maybe even triples the sales Halo gets and they tell you the games coming out in X month. Halo has an X-box only following and they choose to screw around with us.............why play with the 3-4 million person audience you have?

My numbers could be slightly off............but still true.

Bottom line.............Why can't Bungie give out a release date? ............maybe cuz we're going to see it Summer of 08

You're comparing Apples and Oranges. GTA is not Halo. Halo is not GTA. They're completely different.

This is just naive. Every game company has secrets. Rockstar has plenty of secrecy. They didn't even talk about GTA until just a week ago, and it wasn't that exciting at all. The trailer sucked, it wasn't intense, it wasn't heart-racing, and it didn't get me excited at all like the (surprise!) Halo 3 Announcement trailer did. I like Bungie's secrecy. I don't want to know all about the game before I play it. Stop posting here all the time if you think Bungie is so terrible.

They're not playing with anyone. They don't have a release date yet. The game isn't done. It's not even very close. Bungie's not going to set some stupid release date that backs them into a corner like they did with Halo 2.

Bottom line.............Why can't Bungie give out a release date? ............maybe cuz we're going to see it Summer of 08

So now you're just creating crazy theories about how Bungie is lying to us.
FALL 2007.

Why is it that Grand Theft Auto IV, a game that is just as hyped as Halo 3.....can come out with a trailer and include an actual release month......yet Bungie cannot? Is Bungie afraid that they will not be able to come up with their end of the bargain?meeting the release date? What's the big deal anyway? Now that I know when GTA comes out, I can make plans to save here and there to purchase. See how that works? I'm getting both games.....but I'm sure this may cause problems for some.

you can count on rockstar releasing a game, -blam!- or good at that time.

Bungie has a rep to protect.

What about Nintendo, when was the last time they gave out specific details, about..... anything. Just because you give out a release date doesn't mean that your instantly better or something, and what are you going to complain about if GTA gets delayed?

Rockstar throws in a few upgrades each time, but they use the same engine and devo tools over and over again. That's why Driver looks just like GTA.

Quick comment. Sorry, but Rockstar does not use the same engine. Grand Theft Auto IV uses the NEW Rockstar Advanced Gaming engine, or R.A.G.E. This engine is also used in their table tennis game. I also doubt it is the same development tool again as the previous GTA games due to how this is the first GTA game to be released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well as in HD. You could argue that Bungie throws in a few upgrades each installment too since, well, it is still a FPS in an environment called Halo, how cookie-cutter is that? GTA is by far my secod favories game/game series ever next to Halo. I have so much fun playing them, no matter what system it is on. I am also going to probably get GTA IV on release date. I honestly do think that people on this forum only think that Halo and Bungie are the best in the biz and shadow everyone else in intangible magnitude. Don't get me wrong, Halo and Bungie are my favorite games and developers, but there are other nice ones. EPIC, Rockstar, etc. All are nice. But yes, I do like weekly updates.

I formerly whined and moaned about Bungie's secrecy and inability to keep its fans in the loop, then I started playing Rainbow 6: Vegas. I've never seen a company with worse communication and support for its players than Ubisoft. Bungie may be secretive, but the simple fact that they give weekly updates on development progress and participate actively in their forums puts them leaps and bounds ahead of their competition. Ubi announced a map pack in January, never mentioned another word about it, refused to respond in its forums, then announced an indefinite delay the day it was supposed to come out. Interesting viral campaigns, community involvement, weapon by weapon updates on new titles, and supporting new content (with a definite release date) for a 3-4 year old game? I may be a Halo fanboy, but I think almost every developer could do well to be more like Bungie.

Bungie is a top secret clandestine faction that will not just go about releasing compromising information that may hinder their steps toward world domination.
Bungie will release information when they feel we are ready.

Its because they don't want to make any mistakes. For Halo 2, they promised it by Nov. 9th. But they were running out of time so they had to rush some things and could have been better than it is now. Plus, Bungie is annoying me about release dates now.

Bungie needs to keep doing what they have been doing since before Halo. everything they do is magic. Let them be. Sure I would love to know exactly when the next Halo will be out but theres no reason for them to lock themselves into a date.

GTA is released on multiple platforms and sure it sells a bunch of copies, but who still plays the original grand theft auto 6 years after its release?

Bungie is in a league of their own and will play by their own rules.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

We learned a long time ago that release dates that you aren't 110% sure of are stupid - they only cause you grief. Not only to fans, but to publishers and partners too.

So - Fall 2007 is the best we can give you right now. We have our own internal schedules and such, but they are adjusted to various normal things that happen in development. Once we lock in the release date, we'll let you know and it won't slip from that barring a catastrophe. Halo 2 was the same - the first date we gave was "2004", and then eventually we announced a specific date, and hit it.

Nobody is "screwing around" with you. Unless you prefer what a lot of other companies do and pull a date out of their ass and then string you along with the fake date. Or, I could just give you the old standby excuse: "we'd tell you the release date, but we're still waiting on the boxes".

And if you want a further answer - we're not Rockstar, and there isn't anything wrong with that. We do things how we do them because it works for us. Given that we've been making games for 15 years, I think our way works for us. We'll not be forced into some arbitrary timeline just because you want to know a date instead of a season. If we're going to be forced into an arbitary timeline, it had better be for something significant, like being a launch title (see Halo 1).

GTA is a cookie cutter game. Rockstar throws in a few upgrades each time, but they use the same engine and devo tools over and over again. That's why Driver looks just like GTA. In my opinion, the games are a poor comparison to Bungie's games (no, I'm not a fanboy, but I do appreciate quality when I see it).

Yeah I know, what is Rockstar thinking? The new GTA game is only going to feature a brand new city, which just happens to be the biggest playable area in any game, ever, ever. And it's not like they introduce a new protagonist with a full complete and fleshed out backstory every game, along with a host of other major characters who are all uniquely tailored to each of their games. I mean, they've never done THAT before. The stories are all the same in their games too - I mean, there are small differences in some cases, like having one game with a white guy trying to bring down drug cartels on the east coast in the 80's, and then having another game with a black guy struggling against corrupt cops and gangbangers on the West Coast in the 90's. I mean, both games are PRETTY MUCH the same, except of course in the second one you have all new vehicles, twice the playing space, completely new settings, the ability to swim, new weapons, tons more minigames, a longer campaign, and a slew of other upgrades that were mentioned above. Those are small, tiny little differences, and they are mostly unnoticeable.

And they're not innovative at all - some other game manufacturer obviously invented the entire sandbox genre of games, which is now the most sought-after construct of gameplay in all games afterwards. And I mean, GTA certainly isn't going to feature a new graphics engine or anything, I mean, just look at the trailer, it looks EXACTLY like San Andreas, which also looks completely exactly like GTA1, given that Rockstar "uses the same engine and devo tools all over again."

Rockstar, you are truly slacking.

Why are there so many conspiracy theorists, trying to figure out whey we don't have a release date? We'll get one when bungie knows that it will be released. I would rather it be like this then it was with halo 2 giving us a date and then constantly pushing it back. We have a couple of month window for when halo 3 is going to be released, do we really need anything more than that? Now if it were october and I still hadn't heard anything about a release date I would be mad. I would think a lot more time goes into making a game like halo, then does for somthing like GTA, with no multiplayer. As for needing to save money to buy halo 3, you have an idea of when it's going to come out, you know the price so just have the money ready. If you really need to budget for something like GTA which is what, a 60 dollar investment, then you probably shouldn't be spending your money on games anyway. Everybody just be patient, it will get here when it gets here, and when it does it will be so great you will wonder why you ever uttered a bad word about the guys at bungie.

You sure about that?

The "problem" you pose is of little value. Disclosing the exact release date doesn't increase sales.

I will not disagree with you, Bungie has been doing more than well recently and it's about time they start reaping the fruits of their labor........but be careful, when you say; " we'll not be forced into some arbitrary timeline JUST BECAUSE YOU want.........." remember that the YOU in that sentence, represents US, the Bungie community. I'm a huge fan, I'm not going to lie and say since Myth.........but since Halo 1. I've been playing FPS games my entire life and you guys do a great job. I just hate when companies get TOO GREEDY.....it tends to alter a companies priorities. All I'm saying is; before you guys start crapping on US..........think back to when Bungie was just an idea, back to when the Master Chief wasn't your poster boy.........remember dreaming about having a following like this ( scratch that, I highly doubt they ever thought they'd be this big ) but just remember.........you NEEDED us to get going. The reality is; you really don't now.........but that's my point. Don't become one of "those" companies that starts to lose focus on the priorities.........
