GTA is a cookie cutter game. Rockstar throws in a few upgrades each time, but they use the same engine and devo tools over and over again. That's why Driver looks just like GTA. In my opinion, the games are a poor comparison to Bungie's games (no, I'm not a fanboy, but I do appreciate quality when I see it).
Yeah I know, what is Rockstar thinking? The new GTA game is only going to feature a brand new city, which just happens to be the biggest playable area in any game, ever, ever. And it's not like they introduce a new protagonist with a full complete and fleshed out backstory every game, along with a host of other major characters who are all uniquely tailored to each of their games. I mean, they've never done THAT before. The stories are all the same in their games too - I mean, there are small differences in some cases, like having one game with a white guy trying to bring down drug cartels on the east coast in the 80's, and then having another game with a black guy struggling against corrupt cops and gangbangers on the West Coast in the 90's. I mean, both games are PRETTY MUCH the same, except of course in the second one you have all new vehicles, twice the playing space, completely new settings, the ability to swim, new weapons, tons more minigames, a longer campaign, and a slew of other upgrades that were mentioned above. Those are small, tiny little differences, and they are mostly unnoticeable.
And they're not innovative at all - some other game manufacturer obviously invented the entire sandbox genre of games, which is now the most sought-after construct of gameplay in all games afterwards. And I mean, GTA certainly isn't going to feature a new graphics engine or anything, I mean, just look at the trailer, it looks EXACTLY like San Andreas, which also looks completely exactly like GTA1, given that Rockstar "uses the same engine and devo tools all over again."
Rockstar, you are truly slacking.
