Subject: Can my computer run H2V?

I'm just making sure.

Genuine MIcrosoft Windows Vista Home Premium
3.0GHZ Intel Pentium 4 HT 800FSB
1536MB DDR PC3200 RAM
20 GB Free on one of four partitions 7200RPM
256MB ATI Radeon X600 with Pixel Shader 2.0
DVD +/- RW
Realtek High Definition Audio
768kbps DSL Internet

Will it run Halo 2 smoothly?

You might want to upgrade your graphics card. According to the requirements I found, the minimum is an x700.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

Your x600 is basically low end at this point and will definitely choke on H2 at higher resolutions.

I don't think he needs to upgrade his graphics yet. I'd say wait for a Direct X 10 card to come out (unless they're out already? I don't really keep up on all these pc things). But I'm sure that card can run it, maybe a little lag here and there, but yeah.

  • 04.04.2007 5:34 PM PDT

What it is.

He's asking if he can run it, and yes, you definitely can. The only weak side is your gfx, but you can always upgrade.

Since we're on this topic, I'm going to be buying a laptop soon for college this fall, and was wondering what everyone thought about this machine:

PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5200 (1.6GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB) edit
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vista™ Home Premium
LCD PANEL 15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display with TrueLife™(glossy)
MEMORY 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHZ, 2 DIMM
HARD DRIVE 80GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive edit
OPTICAL DRIVE 24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive edit
VIDEO CARD 256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory™
SOUND OPTIONS Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy™HD Software Edition

I'm not a "hardcore gamer" by any means, but I do like to play games from time to time at decent settings. I realize the video card isn't the best, but for what I'm willing to pay, it's good enough. If I'm not mistaken, the system requirements for H2V are a 128 MB card, which is what the x1400 is (Hypermemory = 1/2 shared & half dedicated memory). Anyway, what are your thoughts (keeping in mind that I'm a moderate gamer, and not willing to spend too much) specifically on running H2V.

Thanks, and cheers.

What it is.

^I think you should run H2V fine. Since it's a laptop, I'd keep the settings low especially if you don't have it plugged in. I'm not too fond of ATI anymore since i gave up on them(nothing wrong with them, they still make great stuff) back when i got my 7900GT. Since the game isn't released yet i cant tell how well it will run but i am sure it will be medium settings.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Hypermemory is garbage. It just rips system RAM for game performance.

That x600 needs to be upgraded. At this point, the x1800 sounds like a good affordable upgrade.

Yeah, basically all it is is a marketing scheme by ATI to make the card look like it has more physical/dedicated memory then it actually does. It's similar to NVIDIA's turbocache ploy (though IMO not as bad). That being said, the x1400 has 128MB physical/dedicated memory (which meats the H2V requirements [I think...]) and, as you mentioned, "shares" the other 128MB of memory with the RAM your computer has in it. For the options provided for the computer I'm looking to buy, it's a choice between either this card, the ATI x1400, or a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 that uses TurboCaching.

What it is.

^since the laptop you're lookin at has 2GB of ram, just take 128MB away for the hypermem and you should still be good to go.
