Hypermemory is garbage. It just rips system RAM for game performance.

Yeah, basically all it is is a marketing scheme by ATI to make the card look like it has more physical/dedicated memory then it actually does. It's similar to NVIDIA's turbocache ploy (though IMO not as bad). That being said, the x1400 has 128MB physical/dedicated memory (which meats the H2V requirements [I think...]) and, as you mentioned, "shares" the other 128MB of memory with the RAM your computer has in it. For the options For the computer I'm looking to buy, it's a choice between either this card, the ATI x1400, or a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 that uses TurboCaching.

Both cards are beyond garbage, I wouldnt game with anything less than a 7600 go for nvidia or an x1600 go for ati. Keep in mind those would be my MINIMUM requirement suggestions.

I guess it's a fair price, but I can't exactly afford it right now.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

I agree with everyone, the graphics card is one of the only things you should probably upgrade for a "mediocre" computer, but I'm covered I have 2 nVidia 8800 GTX's, and they are awesome.

That's all good and fine if you have the money. But in my situation I have 2 problems: 1) the laptop only offers those two "beyond garbage" cards, and to run the game on "ok" levels is good enough for me. 2) Gaming is going to be the last thing on my mind, as the costs of all things associated with going to college outwiegh my gaming needs.

Lastly, I have to disagree with you about both being beyond garbage. Yes, they suck (the 7300 more so than the x1400) to a cetain degree in the eyes of those explicit gamers with ambitious gaming needs (and deep pockets if you ask me :), but are not beyond garbage as, say, an integrated or low-end graphics card (oh my!). Both are "decent" mid-range cards, and like I said before I'm not a "hardcore gamer" and only need to run so called "nex-gen" games such as H2V on reasonable settings.

For further information to anyone who has similar questions pertaining to laptop GPU's, or just wants to learn about it, I direct you to this site. Chaz from NotebookReview does a pretty good job describing and categorizing the different graphics cards available to laptop gamers.

Cheers.

Ok.. you got me. But the x1400 is definitely a midrange :) The 7300 is a low-end card.
