I've been wondering about this for a while. Anyone that's anyone knows that the Underground has always been full of spam, and topics that just plain-old don't belong there, mainly because most (usually new) users click on the first forum they see.

Getting that out of the way, since Teh New Hawtness 2.0, do you think spam has decreased in the Underground? Do you think the new layout, forum descriptions, or anything else has had an effect on the forum? Did the spam increase, decrease, or stay the same?

I haven't been around lately, but has anyone noticed any less spam there? I notice that there's a just a teeny bit less spam, and I think the new layout helps "direct" new users to the proper forums.

What's your take?

I personally havn't noticed any difference between the Underground before and after the update. Thus it is not the softwares fault, but the user. Who happens to be an idiot.

I never implied it was the software's fault. What I was getting at was does the new UI (even ever so slightly) help those oh-so-many brainless users actually go to the correct forum, as opposed to clicking the first forum they see?

Sad, really :\

There are 6 locked threads on the front page of the underground. I don't think it's made much of a difference. You still get the threads that are "when will the beta come out" and "help with linking gamertag". The people who are new to the forums will just click on the first forum they see. You've been here a while, but this is a confusing place for all new members, or people who haven't used it before. So i don't think it' made a huge difference.

Yeah, now upon closer inspection (*strokes mustache*), I notice the Underground is still pretty spammy :\

There's no excuse for calling the forum confusing to new members, because every forum is neatly labeled, and organized. There's no excuse for someone not using their brain to see where their thread goes. Although, some people that actually do read the forum descriptions, they may read the Underground's description, and only end up reading this: "Discussions about anything and everything Bungie not covered by other forums" -- and believing the forum is for "anything and everything".

I really wish people would use their brains, but alas, this is the Internet, and you can't change people on the Internet. Lest us forget the majority of the Internet are very bright, smart, and use their brain ;)

Exactly. People think, oh this is a forum i can ask anything in. Whereas in reality thats simply not the case.

See you do understand, anyone who ever has used the internet is an idiot. FACT.

Spam may seem like it has decreased but it is most likely the effect of mods locking and deleting forum topics.

i have noticed a slight decrease,

If you don't got it, you want it. If you got it, you want more of it. Of course if you don't know what it is, it's hard to get any in the first place.

I think that we need a sort of "automatic 3 day vacation" rule to be established the closer we get to the Halo 3 beta, an eventual release of Halo 3.

Of course the reality is that in most cases, all that's needed is a lock, and the person usually doesn't keep posting crap in the wrong forum...

But I can have fun with the old adage can't I?

Brute Force: If it's not working, your just not using enough.

I don't think it has. There are still far too many topics that don't belong there, and most of them are from new members who are confused on where to place their topic. I for one think that before joining the site a chart of the Forums and their descriptions should be shown to the new member. It could help to avoid some confusion.

It does seem that way. Thank god.

It also appears that The Septagon has become much more active since the site update.
