Relax, everything is always -blam!- up
A post from my clan mate MO5TLY Baalist0 on the Harmless forums. ******
The following quote from friday's (7th-apr) bungie weekly update combined with my love of Half Life 2 and source gave me an idea for the x button, read on:.....
"The first fusion core was pretty, but lacked the necessary warning signage seen in the new, improved Halo 3 Fusion Core. The new improved Fusion Core will become important in strange, secret ways in Fall 2007. Consider yourself warned."
"Here we see the three stages of Fusion Core "stability" from inert to face-meltingly assploded. The trick is to not use them as desks, or hiding places. Rolling and stacking them can be deadly, or rewarding. Depending on your level of skill and patience. Everything you see here is in-game, except the hexagons."

Theres some serious evidence here for a hardcore physics engine in the upcoming masterpiece, considering the pretty decent physics engine and graphics in Halo 2 considering it was on xbox, combined with bungie's excellent game code and talent for pushing the technologies available to them.
i quote: "Rolling and stacking them can be deadly, or rewarding. Depending on your level of skill and patience."
Now give them the potentially awesome power of 360 and a 'next gen' game to build on it logically i think they will make a physics engine detailed enough to make it fully interactive.
X Button = PICK UP/DROP(throw?) OBJECT
potentially the greatest thing ever for campaign, and adding masses more strats and tactics, and potentially better weapon balancing in multiplayer.
"The new improved Fusion Core will become important in strange, secret ways in Fall 2007. Consider yourself warned."
This is what im hedging my bets on for the secret X button function.
*here ends the X button essay*
