The last Reset was understandable under the conditions and the drastic measures that needed to be taken to counter cheating.

This Reset is a low blow to much of the Halo2 community.

Nearly all of my friends are going to quit because of this decision. My friends and I invest a LOT of time into our ranks because we believe it shows the skills that we posess and what we are capable of.

With this reset in ranks, all of our hard work to get to the levels that we posess is going to waste and we get nothing to show for it.

Upcomming stats reset= Worst decision Bungie has ever made.

Just because you believe it doesn't make it true. The fact that your number next to your name is reduced is unfortunate, but it is a minor concern given the big picture.

Ranks are primarily a tool for matchmaking - matching players of similar skill level to each other. Lately, that purpose is not being met due to declining populations, cheaters, and a few other things. Even though they've needed it for a while, we've resisted doing the reset for a while for obvious reasons. But this signifcant release of an auto update and new maps provides an appropriate opportunity to make sure matchmaking continues to function.

They say that they are trying to "level the playing field", but all it is going to do is create mass slaughters. All of the higher ranked people are going to easily destroy all lower competition (ruining the Halo2 experience for many).

That, and I know many people that are putting their Halo2 disk up for sale if this reset goes through. Many many many people are going to either quit or stop playing matchmaking for this express reason.

People put time and efferot into their ranks, and Bungie is ruining all of it in one swift reset.

Just because you believe it doesn't make it true. The fact that your number next to your name is reduced is unfortunate, but it is a minor concern given the big picture.[/quote]

Here's where i disagree. If these numbers were just meant to help us match up, they would've never been made to look so fancy and so proudly displayed. The different color schemes, designs, difficulty in achieving them, etc. all point to them being trophies for players to show off. These ranks show your patience for Matchmaking, the time and effort you've put into it, and to some degree, your skill level. If they were solely for matching purposes, there'd be no need for all the fanciness and showing them big on your Friends List.

This update is going to lead to an initial burst in cheating. I understand you guys have some new Banhammer that magically fixes cheating, but haven't we been promised this before? Weren't we told before that the new update would stop people from modding and that standby would be a thing of the past? I hate to break it to you, but that wasn't true at all. At higher ranks, you see non-stop standbyers and bridgers out to ruin your game. The only difference was standby was the removal of secondary standby in objective games. Then there's the modding issue. Now modders only have 6 hours to mod. That's still plenty of time for them to ruin the game, after all, they're being provided with trial cards to rank up other people. And then there's the wonderful bridgers. Gotta love people forcing host to some 56K kid, or a standbyer, or some kid who will kick you out of the game.

All this update means is that I'm going to have to deal with cheaters all over again. You can say what you will about this update, but people will keep cheating and the game will continuously be ruined. And now, with less people playing the game, it's going to be significantly more difficult to rank up to where you belong. It's going to mean I'll be cheated at all over again at even lower levels. You can't forget the kids who are going to come into your games and derank so they go and level up their friends.

Face it, the new Banhammer is going to be like the old one where it doesn't stop cheating, only slightly changes the way its done. Although I will give you guys props for the last banhammer update - you guys sure did a fantastic job of locking out the harmless homebrew community - great job! Resetting the ranks is not going to help anything, just make people angry and situations worse.

It was well thought out. And it didn't cause lots of people to leave the last time we did it. It also won't lead to an increase in cheating, given the nature of the Auto Update and what it does to both modders and network manipulators.

The primary reason, though, is that with the smaller online population, many people's levels are spread out and/or artificially inflated - to keep matching fast, we need to reign it back in. Besides, you have no idea right now if you rank is earned or not due to the cheating. So, a fresh start with new anti-cheating controls might help lend a bit of help there.

This was not very well thought out.
Lots of people that were once loyal fans are going to leave bungie by the wayside.

This will also lead to an increase in cheating.
This plan was not very well thought out, and i was wondering what was the reasoning behind it?
Thanks.

But ACHRONOS!!! I don't wanna! I don't wanna have to pwn the 'newcomers'! Why? Why must you hurt me so! I was going to get my 31 soon. That's all I wanted. I was so fricken close, now it won't matter. Dang it. Garshdang it. Oh well, pwnage it must be. And pwnage it will get.

UTTER EDITTAGE: But I thought you guys had like frickenage 70,000 players every 24 hours. What da hell man? Why!! Flippin why! No, NO NO NO. Grr...utter GRRage. Straight angerage.

SECONDAGE: I get it. The fancy little symbols, the little different colored prongs. Those were just to "spice" it up a bit? HUH? Well you know what? That makes no sense. The only reason that I like Halo 2 so much is the way it works. It isn't like GoW, where you get pts, or RSV where you get 1200 points a win (or 600). No, you have ranks. 1-50. Well, 1-45 legitimately. Anyway, so now you say that it's just for putting players of the same skill together. WHAT? So resetting them will put a 45 (who is now a 1) up against a 12 (who is a 1) and I wonder who will win?

Oh yeah, that's right. I forgot, the thing should rebalance soon. Riiiiight. Everything is going to change. Everything. All of our previous wins and loses? Our KD ratio? What is that worth now? I know. Jack -blam!-. Because those games do not matter anymore. Sure you were 97 for 145 in TS, who gives a flying -blam!-? You SOL now buddy. No, that's bull, bull-blam!--blam!-. Now even though you are 100 for 150 for are actually 0 for 0 and those previous games can go -blam!- themselves.

And so the cheaters are gone, really? Are you laying a trap? You are, aren't you? Couldn't let people have their fun with a game that is 3 years old? Could you imagine in 1999 playing a Genisis game after playing Tomb Raider? However this game is popular, but then why all the effort? Halo 3 is right around the corner. And you're 'Beta testing' a new and improved Banhammer. Good thing. Making people pissed at Halo 2 (not Bungie) should get people to ease into Halo 3 more easily.

Oh, and you guys had better thank God or the Devil, (I'm not so sure now) that the general playing public doesn't know about this. I swear to -blam!- God they would go and protest this obvious "well thought out" and "for our own good" measure. Well. I'll still play. (It's like eating Mickey D's. You know your eating -blam!- but it is such good -blam!-.) Well, you know that your playing -blam!-, but it is such good -blam!-. What a hell of a oxymoron huh?

no, he won't i'm assuming they will and MOST LIKELY are implementing the SAME system Gears of War have, they can't stop network bridgers that team standby, they can however stop a standbyer that uses a modem, so cheating will not stop. /end of halo 2, wait till halo 3 comes out to play MM again,
MM is -blam!-! and i love you bungie for hang em high in h2
i think i creamed in my pants.
/end

Anyone crying about this matter:

LOLOLOLOLOLAWLLOLOLOLOL

Now that that is out of the way, if you play for fun it shouldnt matter. If you dont play for fun, and your not a pro (who wouldnt have a problem getting a rank back) then wtf are you doing with your life?

reseting the ranks isnt going to stop cheaters
why dont they stop the fake 2 month generators and credit card generators modders use
if ranks are reset its just gonna encourage modders to get their ranks up again

I'm not going to assume, wells, but I will hypothesis.

I think the new banhammer will ban modders faster, and be less lenient in banning standbyers. Because right now, people need to standby m any many many many games. As for banning bridgers, I have an idea of what could happen, but it's a little unreliable and might ban some non cheaters. So I have no clue what they have in stock.

As for resetting the ranks. I can see where they are coming from, but I don't think it's a great choice. Sure people will attain their "true ranks". But if the stats were NOT reset wouldn't they also go back to their true ranks anyways? The diminishing population isn't as diminished as people think. There are still enough players to match people up fast. The only problem is, high levels don't get matched up fast. But seeing as they are a minority AND that they will be high ranks again anyways, the same thing will occur and it's not something to take account of.

While I don't think too many people will quit halo, it will make the community mad as balls and for maybe 3 weeks level "5s" will be laying "30s" Because not only do they fight them at level 1,2,3. The level "5s" beat the level "5"s and get to lets say 20, and then they fight the level "40s" all the way until they get mega "high".

The less skilled players are going to be fighting better players until maybe 3 weeks. Then I think the guys who waited ti out to not get cheated on will get on and also beat on the less skilled. So over all , I'm thinking 5 weeks and it will be back to normal. Or so it will be until the high levels then start playing all the playlists they want back up again. Which most likely, is all or almost all.

Also, if the banhammer improvement is a good enough improvement, I think more people who quit will come back. A cheat free or....nearly cheat free halo will cause, I think, thousands to come back.

Also Achronos, you say the last update wasn't drastic? Well, I remember when a certain team swat was made ranked. And I remember that maybe 7/10 games had people who shouldn't be in the game. At the very beginning I had both a hard and easy time ranking up. And as time when by, same thing! Fought people who had level 20 in swat and when I checked, that was their highest rank. And then I fought level 22s when I checked, level 45s. It's not as "fair" as people say. But anyways, sooner or later, it WILL go back to "normal".

The above is what I think. If I'm wrong or you disagree great, don't be rude about it.

Play for fun.

Thanks

The people that care about their ranks being reset are stupid. I got a 34 in Team Slayer under 100 games and that is really good. But i could care less because its a rank! People need to chill out and not get stressed over a videogame. If you notice the kids that are getting mad, it is because they are like a level 45 - 50 and is mostly likely not legit.

I really don't care.I don't played Halo much anymore, and if I am, I just play with my friends in a custom match.I can easily get my rank up.I just need to get back to my normal skill.I am very rusty from playing lots of Gears.I was only a 22 in in Team Slayer.....

i have to admit it is a farcry for an ideal halo but id accept the reset if were to extinguish modders
but along with the new ban hammers what will come of the 2 month and credit card fraud
