RIP Halo 2.

Reasons I don't trust Bungie about the Banhammer:
-We were already promised that the standby issue had been for the most part resolved.
-We were already promised that modding was being dealth with.
-I warned Bungie about old map modding before it happened with explicit details and was almost banned and then told it was "under control."
-We were told Elongation and Backwash wouldn't suck ;P

...kids who get the lead by one and then superbounce to some obscure part of the map that even Chuck Norris himself can't get to.

Chuck Norris can get to ANY part of the map, even the parts that you don't think are possible to get to. Remember the highest mountain top on Lockout, that you thought was just a backdrop picture. Chuck Norris has been there, during a game of oddball.

I've been waiting for months for some changes in halo 2. since the giant playlist removal, the only major (for me anyways) change has been swat coming back, and i have played and played and played. I got 230 kills yesterday and 25 deaths in a swat ctf game. HALO 2 rules. Now this update is coming and we're getting the new maps and im so exited cause ive never gotten new maps, all the old new maps were already available when i started playing a little less than a year ago. ive been through 2 accounts so im really ok with starting at 1 again, now especially since i might finally find out my true rank. I LOVE THIS GAME MORE EVERY DAY. NO GAME IS BETTER THAN HALO 2

I love Halo and video games. I started a business called "70MGame", I setup LAN events, tournaments, and Midnight Launch Events. Check us out in the link below.

I grew up playing Halo CE and have never stopped loving it since. I have one of the biggest Halo collections you will ever see with the crown jewels being life size statues of Master Chief, Kat, and Emile. Im hoping to have the entire Noble Team soon as well as other Halo statues

God, when Bungie resets the ranks like this, it pisses me off so freakn bad and I know I am not the only one. The are thousands of other players who take pride in their matchmaking ranks and for all of that to go down the -blam!-ter, is just infuriating! The hard work of these players should not go to waste just because of a few modders who have nothing better to do then boost their rank so they can make themselves look good at something they suck at. It shows that they have got nothing better to do then to -blam!- all over a great game and ruin the fun and the competition of the game. Whatever. Bungie needs to seriously, figure out a way to fix the problem because if they don't, they are going to lose alot of loyal and decicated players.

Did you read why the ranks are there in the first place?

Posted by: Achronos
Just because you believe it doesn't make it true. The fact that your number next to your name is reduced is unfortunate, but it is a minor concern given the big picture.

Ranks are primarily a tool for matchmaking - matching players of similar skill level to each other. Lately, that purpose is not being met due to declining populations, cheaters, and a few other things. Even though they've needed it for a while, we've resisted doing the reset for a while for obvious reasons. But this signifcant release of an auto update and new maps provides an appropriate opportunity to make sure matchmaking continues to function.

Well Enough Alone...

~"The people who play Bungie games tend to sense that there's something behind the games that's attractive to them. Then they become fans of the games. And then they become rabid fans. And then they become employees of Bungie."(Life story) -Marty

I like the rank reset. I don't have any proof of this but I have been getting the feeling that a lot of people have ranks that are too high for them or too low. The ranks are too spred out too. There should be a small population of people who are levels..say..1-10. Some more that are 10-20. Moste people should be 20-30 (an average player should be about 25) (there are 50 levels and 25 is right inbetween 1 and 50). Some of the better players should be 30-40. And the best of the best should be 40-50. From what I have seen, players have gotten their levels way higher than they should be. Say the average player is a level 35. That should be corrected. I think this clean start is grate! It will also eliminate the problem of people who haven't played in months, would suck if they played now, yet brag about thier high levels.

If you want some, Come get some!!!!!!!!!!

The way I see it if you got to a gigh level once you can do it agian the only ones, as far as this being the nail in the coffin I highly doubt it, I mean there are still upwards of 60,000 or more people playing halo2 people that quit playing this game never played the game for itself the played it cuz of the number by there name, which IMO doesnt mean anything. I may not be a level 30 or 40 but I dont play for rank if I lose oh well if I win yay but its all fun people, its a way to interact with people that you have the same interests in video games that you do. So quit whining about the reset, I have put hours into the game like everyone else but I admit I have not lived on it like most but oh well, I will get over the rank reset just like everybody who is complaining that bungie is doing a bad thing. Be happy people most are gonna scrap it once halo 3 comes out anyway so it should not be a big deal

[Now, it CAN frequently occur due to intentional manipulation, but there is not a 1:1 correlation between blue-screen and standby. It is a dangerous assumption and the height of hubris to think that it is possible to know conclusively what caused the event.

If you get a bluescreen in the middle of the game and no one has quit, 99% of the time you are being standbyed.

Halo 2's netcode is far too lenient on bad hosts. That and the system that picks hosts in the first place is just horrible.

and I say that you are wrong. You are taking one possible cause and stating that the result can only occur because of that one possibility.

A blue screen is an indication that data traffic between your console, the host and others is encountering issues. It is NOT a clear indication that someone has pressed the standby button on their cable modem.

Now, it CAN frequently occur due to intentional manipulation, but there is not a 1:1 correlation between blue-screen and standby. It is a dangerous assumption and the height of hubris to think that it is possible to know conclusively what caused the event.

He is right, often times on a bridged host, or "team standbying." the game will not go into blue screen.
Oh, and 99% is an exaggeration DWells.

If I'm not mistaken, You don't need lag to blue screen. Sometimes it's the servers, the connection between the host and everyone else, sometimes it is lag (or manipulation). There are many reasons to why the game blue screens which could be the same reason other games lose connection for a few seconds while online. Instead of a small message comming up and saying "Server Problems" or something like that, bungie has it go to blue screen, this way, people cannot move around while the problem occurs. Everyone (including myself) jumps to conclusions when you go into blue screen, but you have to realize that it might not be something that bungie can help. Bungie watches for cheaters, fixes server problems, patches, maps, updates on MM playlists, new games (halo 3), old games (halo, Oni, ect...) the site, the forums, what Microsoft needs, ect... and they don't have the time to really perfect the servers. We all have to live with it. Maybe in the next hundred years servers will be perfect, but until then, we have to live with them. Personally, bungie could have a Walmart server or 95 cent store server and I'd still play Halo 2 online.

Ok, little duckling, you seem to have been led astray by your own thinking, good job, stop thinking. You say it's going to save you money because you spend it on multiple accounts? Why does resetting the ranks have anything to do with that? What, al you do is hit 31 and then make a new account? Wow, and you're calling me bad. ok.

If they reset the ranks, I don't have to have several accounts to play ranked games with my friends who are no where near my level. Pretty much all I do is wait till I get to 30 or 31 and then I cancel the account. Actually, it auto-deletes, so I don't even have to. So, tool, them reseting the ranks actually does me a favor. I never said you were bad at Halo 2, I just said you're stupid for posting dumb generalizations.

I never said I found it hard either, duck. I have a 37 is 4 playlists, had a 43 in slayer before I deranked it, have no rank lower than 32(except hardcore which I did have a 32 before in) and even swat I had one game from a 32 in it before it was take out. I have had 7 accounts go to 32, have had 3 of those hit 37 and HEY, even after months of NOT playing, I still manage to carry teams over in MM. Trying to single me out as a bad player is one of the funniest things you can do. Why are you even questioning my skill level?
Oh cause you're a ONBO? ok

If you don't find it hard, then why are you complaining about them reseting the ranks? I've never said you're a bad player, so you might as well stop trying to use that argument because it makes you look like an illiterate tool, or a "duck". Sorry, I'll try to speak stupid UK-isms so you can understand. You might do well to stop making assumptions about what I said, and making ridiculous generalizations, because it makes you look like an even bigger tool. OMG, you're soooo clever, you called me a "noob". I'm sooo hurt. I would be embarrassed if I was considered good at Halo 2. That means you have WAY too much free time on your hands that you can dedicate to a VIDEO GAME!

Like what? That everyone who said it was below a level 5? WOW. Maybe you should understand what hyperbolas and exaggerations are. How dumb are you? Seriously, BB, or B.B, or BABA, you need to understand what's going no before you run your mouth.

You might want to check your definition of hyperbole, tool, because a hyperbole is used to describe an obviously situation. Like "sleep a year". It's not used as a condescending remark, which you chose to try to do rather incorrectly. You might try to use a word correctly when you attempt to run your mouth. Listen little kid, I'm sorry you spent sooo much time getting high ranks that mean absolutely nothing. Because you're a high rank does NOT mean you're good at Halo 2. I, wouldn't even want to be considered good at a video game because that would pretty much mean I'm pathetic. Go ahead and try to use the "pro" argument, I'll wait.

I'm sorry that you should have to go back through and earn your ranks again, but if you are obviously as good as you say, it shouldn't take you any time at all to get back to what your ranks were before. And even if you do make it back to the ranks you had before, they still mean nothing. So stop being a tool, and making assumptions, then making ridiculous generalizations, and maybe not take a VIDEO GAME so seriously. I'll await your illogical reply.

if the update of the banhammer works better than it did in the past, and stops the cheating alot more efficiently then before, than you would actually thank bungie. Seriously, this is not a crisis, they are actually trying to make MM more enjoyable. Or maybe you guys care so much about your rank that you completely ignore that oops.

Yay, someone who understands what the blue screen really is! Need a real example? I had this LAN party, where the games would keep going to blue screen. Why? Because my router could only handle only so much moving of information, and had to take a breather every hour or so. A simple change in routers fixed this. Samething can happen to the host, his router can only handle so much, or maybe the ISP limited the host or you for a second or so. Or whatever.

Any way, I am up for the stat reset. As they said, some peoples rank are inflated, probably not because of cheating, but because they have not played in a while, the community has changed, maybe not by much, but by enough.

Just like before, I'll get my rank up in no time.

The one thing you people are forgetting is that Rank DOES NOT=SKill
Modders BLOW *in ranked matches*
Some high lvls SUCK and onother thing, *to bungie* People will still Hack/cheat to get their lvl back, in which there is no point... I would just abolish the whole rank system anyway

Ok. I just got home from a week of girls and sun and girls thinking my ranking was intact. I don't want this reset, but I have good reason.

After I got Xbox 360 at launch an a new GT, I didn't play Halo 2 for a year (partly because I lost my disc.) Over the past month of March I had started playing again to re-sharpen my Halo skills in anticipation for the Halo 3 Beta. And I've gotten pretty far, but I just read the update and it's poop. And i'm SO SURE they left it until the very last sentence haha POOP I SAY. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Ok, mailbox, so if you play with your friends all the time the gap would never occur correct? See, you are exploting the matchmaking system and continually making new accounts to play with your higher leveled friends. I wonder what that sounds like.

So in order to hit a high rank, people are going to have to wait for others to rank up first.

The truth is that rank does not = skill, as someone has already pointed out(you can blame modders and standbyers for that), and with the reset you will be given a chance to earn your level(s) without cheating influencing your level for good or worse. Plus if you really are what your level says you are, then you should have no trouble regaining it(your level) again after the reset.

I make a new account so I can play with a group of 3 people who are level 20's at a fair game for them. If I were to go in with my level 31 profile, they would be forced to play an unfair game because they would have to play with ranks far higher than their own. Oh, and the only reason I repeated the word "tool" some much, is because I was mocking your choice of calling me a "duck". But good job picking up on that.

There's more than one way to be bad. And it doesn't haver to be in halo2, you chimmeny.

Next thing, you might want to try to explain to me what exactly a "chimmeny" is? Do you mean chimney? Also, exactly how are mailboxes and chimney "tools"? When you are going to make stupid comments, please try to keep up with it, it makes it less confusing for the smart people.

Well jack in the box, before I say this another 30 times, read first. It takes time and work. And think about it this way, the only way to rankl up is to beat other people, anf such similar ranks are matched up. So in order to hit a high rank, people are going to have to wait for others to rank up first.

As fast as you could possibly rank up, I'm sure other people will be doing the same thing as well. I would be very very very surprised that you could rank up fast enough to have to actually take time out to "wait for others to rank up first". But that is another reason why I don't like ranking up anyways, it severely limits the player pool in order to play a game. Why would I want to be a 45 if I couldn't play a game in that playlist for 2 hours? That's rather counterproductive.

Well, table saw, if you keep repeating "tool", I would have to say you have nothing better to say. Really, don't use it every 2 sentences.

Holy mother of god, you actually listed something that is considered a "tool"!!!! Congratulations!! Maybe you should go back to your "See-and-Say" and find out that the COW goes MOO! I could insult you in a variety of ways, but I chose tool because it is simplistic and I figured that would work best for someone of your intelligence. Just because I call you a tool, does not mean I can't think of other insults for you. That's rather a non sequitur argument.

It means an obvious EXAGGERATION. Which is exactly how I used it. I said that everyone who said they liked it was a level 5, that is an obvious exaggeration. You don't understand what's even going on. GG.

Well obviously it was not an obvious exaggeration, so you still used it incorrectly. What you did was a generalization, and a rather faulty one at that. A generalization =/= a hyperbole. But thanks for playing again.

No, but it means someone has spent time trying to get them.

No, it means that someone has done a variety of things. They could have played completely legit, and worked at it; or they cheated at got there in a flash; or they used boosters and got there with no effort or skill; or they could have done a variety of things. But thanks for playing yet again.

Well screw driver maybe you should take a look at your own posty and reread mine. You'll see how ridiculous yours is.

Wow, you got another one, you'll get a gold star for today for sure now!! That's good kid, a screw driver is a "tool". I'm so very proud of you. Maybe tomorrow we'll move on to colors, and see if you can get those correctly. Remember the ocean is blue, and grass is green. Maybe that will help you out a little.

I'll say this again, if you really should be a high rank, you'll have no problems getting back to that rank. Honestly, I don't see the appeal of being a high rank anyways. Playing against other people that are high ranks does not mean you'll always be equally matched. And all it does is severely limit the player pool in which you can find a game. If you what a challenge, play a game with a severe handicap on.

I'm sorry you spent time and energy doing something that is suppose to be entertaining, but people try to compete at it and it removes the most basic aspect of what playing a video game is about. Ranks are suppose to match people up in order to give them a better chance at having a fair game. I will never understand why people place such value in something as completely trivial as a rank. If you find that you are winning a game easily, turn on your handicap. That should be all the challenge you need.

I am certain that superjumping can not be fixed becuase of the Havok engine being entangled with alot of the code so I am not going to ask about that. But any kind of fix for the better is welcome be it networking fix/upgrade or anything that stops any kind of cheating. Thanks alot for your support through the years.

Nope, the auto-update does not fix weapon glitches, unfortunately. Funny how Bungie's like "It's cheating! Don't do it!" Yet they do nothing to fix it.
