So my comp runs like crap whenever I want to record something. The framerate usually drops down to a solid 12 FPS. Now, what would the best settings in game to get it to run good? Right now, I have it set to...

Resolution-800x600
Refresh Rate-60hz
Framerate-30 FPS
Specular-No
Shadow-No
Decals-No
Particles-Off
Texture Quality-Medium.

Now, this works fine for normal play, I hardly ever get FPS lag anymore, and the graphics are good enough for me. Lately, I've been thinking of making a montage, and I can't play at 12 FPS to record anything good. So, what should I change to get this up to 30 FPS or higher? If I need anymore information in there, just tell me. Thanks.

Try 640x480.
And change the frame rate thing to Vsync, or whatever it is. It works best.

Recording your game takes processing power, so it will make your game lag, unless you have a pretty good system.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

No reason to use v-sync unless he is getting FPS greater than 60, which is not the case. Turn off your artifically 30fps limit as well. Put it to "no v-sync."

FRAPS is all about CPU power. The in game graphics settings won't matter much at all. You have to reduce the workload on your CPU which means lower resolution like brian says.

Ok, I'll try that later. Will it lessen the quality of the graphics?

Ok, I tried that. It made the graphics less, but not by much. It runs at 60 FPS without recording, but around 20-30 when I am recording. Oh yeah, this is just on my own, I'll have to see how it holds up when I'm in a large battle. Looks like I'm going to have to uprgade my computer some. So I should probably try upgrading my CPU and video card to increase performance?

Well here is all I know about my computer. If there's a way to find everything, please tell me.

Dell DImension DV051
Intel(R)
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80 GHz
2.79GHz, 0.99 GB of RAM

Don't Inetl's have intergrated graphic cards?

I also found, that it still isn't good enough for pllaying when I'm recording, unless if I type in -useFF on the target line, which totally makes it fail. It works great when I'm not recording though.

Get a better card and some faster RAM. It's costly but thats really all you can do to improve your filming fps.
