Riding on a tank in multiplayer? The games I've been in, unless you are the driver, you are cannon fodder if you are near a tank.
Each map is different, below is mostly for Blood Gulch;
The most consistent method I've used to get the flag is warthogs. Preferably two, becuase you are probably going to lose one on the way there anyway. If one or two ghosts are available for cover, even better. If both warthogs make it, obviously one can cover the other. You have to figure out who gets the flag, the driver or gunner. If the driver is going for the flag, DON'T park right next to the base, esp on Blood Gulch. Give the gunner room to defend himself and your ride back. If the gunner goes for the flag, the driver has to keep circling the base at full speed, ready to pickup the flag carrier (without running him over!). If the flag carrier ends up going through the warp door in the confusion, the driver can go pickup the carrier to get him the rest of the way back. I have found it is best to drive the hogs on the winding roads, you can get right up to the base with little warning. When you go jumping over the hills, everybody and his uncle knows you are on the way.
Infinity; This is almost all banshees, unless you have an good hog driver who can go quick through the map without flipping.
Gyrophobia; I always go for the ghosts on the lower level of the bridge. Otherwise, try using the banshee to land by the other teams warp door, grab the flag, and fly back.
Danger Canyon and Sidewinder are similar in my mind; Either assault with vehicles, or go through the tunnels.
