Well im in the upper population of skilled halo 2 players so I cant wait. I love that they're resetting that stats. I was so pumped last time they did it

I am "Jazzed" for a different and much more sadistic reason. You see, i have met so many people up at the high ranks who, let's just say, i wouldn't get along with in real life - and so many others with high ranks who have clearly cheated to get them. I will be laughing heartily when they are reset since both groups of people seem to cherish their ranks so dearly.

Taxes do nothing to affect the share of wealth, since taxes are only applied to income.

So that's not even a part of the conversation at all, so it's pointless talking about it....

i suspect that my response to learning that the ranks would be reset was similar to yours: shock and frustration. i do not mind my ranks much, and they move up and down depending on the quality of the teammates that i choose, but i thought that restarting the ranks would make it harder to find good matches.

now that i have thought about it, i am not afraid that it will be tough to find balanced competition. all of will start from a low rank, and instead of racing up against inferior competition, many of us will find other good players in matches at low ranks. we will all be able to level up naturally, and, if what bungie states is true, we will not bump into as many cheaters along the way. so, the worst that will happen is that we may level up more slowly since we will face higher odds of being matched against superior players. but, this is hardly a problem, it just means that we may lose more fair games than we would otherwise. but, at the same time, we may win more fair games than we would otherwise.

plus, since all of the mm players will be starting from level 1, at least for a while, it should be much easier to find matches since the player population will be spread across fewer ranks. there will be ten tons of players within an acceptable range of ranks, so, no matter how quickly a person races up, they should still be able to find challenging matches. and the faster a player moves up, the more likely he will be to match similarly skilled players (since few will be able to level up that quickly). so, even while we are at lower ranks, we will still have a decent shot of having balanced matches.

i have left out quite a lot of details about how ranks being reset will affect us, and i am being unusually optimistic, but i think and hope that the ranks being reset will not be much of a bother. i only want to play balanced and competitive matches, and the rank reset should only interupt that slightly in the short run, and, if things work as planned, then in the long run we will all be able to play at our natural ranks and do so without having as many matches ruined by cheaters.

what do you guys think?

Okay lets look at it mathematically.
To reach a level 40 again, you need to play about 100 games (and win them all). So thats about 100 * 10 = 1,000 minutes of gameplay.... if you win every single game. Lets say you win 75% of the games. That is about 150 * 10 or 1500 minutes of game play. Keep in mind, that its probably more, because of loss of rank, and stuff, so maybe around 2000 minutes of gameplay, to get a level 40 back in 1 play list. Now multiply that by 8. 16,000 minutes of gameplay. Now add, that there will be a ton of other level 40s, so your chances are seriously down, of getting matched against weaker players. So probably around 20,000 minutes, or 333 hours of gameplay, to achieve the correct rank in every play list. I think this is a "low" estimate, it will probably be much longer. If people average 3 hours of gameplay a day, we're talking about 111 days, or over 3 months, for the ranks to stabilize. At 5 hours a day ( a very long time) think around 66 days, or over 2 months for the ranks to stabalize.

More Reasons Why A Rank Reset is a Bad Idea

i can follow your numbers, but can you tell me exactly how this is a major problem? for starters, you are talking about people who are level 40, who are obviously going to be a small minority of the mm population. but, for the world's best halo 2 mm players, you are right, it will take those people a long time to find equal competition. but, as you have pointed out, they can level up by winning games, and if they are actually that highly skilled, then they should expect to race up the ranks without losing many games at all. and, if they do lose games, then they would have lost fairly against better skilled players.

what i find most amusing about your objection here is that you claim both that it will take a long time to get back to 40 and that there are loads of 40s in the mm population. if the rank system works properly (detects cheaters), then there will not be many upper level players, so there will not be many people of equal or greater skill than you (supposing that you are an honest level 40 in all ranks) bunmping into you while your ranks rise win after win. so, if the standard statistical results from such a population sample, then your only problem will be that it will take you many games to get back to being able to play against similarly skilled players. but, you also stated that there are so many 40s out there, and that you will meet them at lower levels. if this is the case, then you will have nothing to complain about since you will be matched against similarly skilled players, which is what mm is designed to do.

in any case, all of us saw what happened the last time that ranks reset, and we should expect the same to happen again. we will play games, will will get some easy wins and some tough losses, but we will all eventually reach our natural ranks, AND there will be far fewer cheaters. so, as i claimed before, any and all problems caused by the rank reset will be short lived, while the benefits will be long lived. the value of the trade off seems obvious to me.

Well, when the levels are reset the system will not work at the beggining. Level 40s and level 5s will be treated the same. It will be crazy.

Not only will there ve less cheaters, they'll be fewer players. Games will be fast and easily found until some higher ranks are found. The "newbs" of this game are going to have to rank up so others can rank up.

yes, but this is to be expected. until the world's best halo players play enough games to reach their natural ranks, they will mop up the floor with the rest of us. but, since there are very few players at this skill level, they will not have a large effect on mm as a whole, so their short term problems will pale in comparison to the long term gains that everyone will realize.

i think that everyone should agree that, assuming we keep playing mm a lot, that things ranks will settle and we will have fewer games ruined by cheaters. if this is the case, then we should all be pleased by the changes.

Not even the 40s. All the 15s will beat the 1s, the 24s beat the 15s and 1s, the 29s beat the 24s and 15s and 1s...and so on. Such is a cycle.

yes, of course this is the case, but it will only be a short term problem. we will all win easy games when we are matched against inferior players, and we will all lose hard games when we are matched against superior players, but this will happen much less once we reach our natural ranks. the lower the natural rank a person has, then the faster skilled players will move away from that rank. but, with or without a rank reset, people at the game's lowest ranks are a small percentage of the mm population, and they already experience this problem anytime a person opens a new account.

once a person reaches his natural rank, then the vast majority of his matches will be against similarly skilled players. of course they will still meet better players who are still moving up in rank, but these will still be a minority of the games played, and they will be honest matches and there will be less cheating.

i have not claimed that the rank reset will not produce any negative consequences, but i have claimed that the benefits will exceed the costs by a large degree, and that this improvement will be realized by most mm players across all ranks.

that isnt totally true, because there will be people with low ranks that can beat someone with a higher rank, because they just can.

Well now the more experienced don't make level 1s and rank up with the less skilled all the time. They usually play with friends against other high such ranks.

This would be true...IF ranks didn't go down after loses.
The level 15 who looses 5 games because of higher levels can fight level ones a number of times. If everyone only went up, then very soon yeah that would be reached, but then ranks would soon after have no point. The fact that a level 22 might go from 22 to 26 then to 18 then back up will show he's being trashed and taken everywhere. He makes the 18s loose then makes the 26s get an easy win. Everyone will for some time, be all "wishy washy".

you still have not shown that the rank resets will present greater problems than fruits.
1) this is the case now with some new accounts, but it is not the case with all new accounts. from what i can see by countless posts in the forums and from talking with friends, many people really enjoy playing at a lower level and getting easy wins. this is evidenced by all of the players who derank. starting a new account and moving up in as many games as possible is desirable to many, so your claim that most people do not start at the lowest levels is not true of many players. your claim will only be true of players who would rather only play competitive and balanced matches, players who dislike easily destroying inferior players for a change. as long as so many people like to crush beginners, people will still savor ranking up. but, this is not directly related to the topic, so i will not go further into this.

2) you are playing fast and loose with the numbers here, and if you were to stop doing so then you would not be so worried about the short term problem. even if a player loses 5 games in a row to drastically better opponents, his rank will not drop more than 1 point, so there will not be a yo-yo effect like you described.

for the most part, all players who are at or above average skill will rise in rank fairly quickly (they will all beat the roughly 50% who are below average) since the odds are that they will not face many opponents who have better skills. but, when they do meet fair competition, they will win and lose matches, and when they meet better competition, they will lose more matches. because the way that players of different levels of skill are distributed throughout the mm player population, they will still face markedly better opponents only some of the time, so players who are average or above average will still move up in rank much more than they will move down. as such, ranks will not be wishy washy, they will just take some time to become totally settled.

I love the reset of the ranks. I'm having a REALLY difficult time getting higher then 25 now as it is. Mainly because of Cheaters and quiters.
I was a level 37 before the first reset, so I was upset. But now with all of the cheaters and such ruining everything, I clearly see why it's needed.
Maybe now I'll be able to Fully rank up without all of the fustration and problems of present..

Hearing about the rank reset actually made me want to play ranked MM more again. It feels just like the unranked playlists now and that's what makes it fun. Plus, if the cheating population does decline due to this new update then I might go back to playing more ranked MM after the reset anyway.

1) Props on using the word "jazzed" -seriously
2) I want to play more after ranks are reset, i think its great considering i am far too high a level for my skill in team hardcore and can no longer play it.
3) people should stop whinging about losing ranks its a neccessary part of the update.
