Hi, I'm running on an 'ol eMachines desktop with the following specs. My question is about if my video card can handle Halo 2 Vista. I'm going to buy 2Gb of RAM if I know that my video card can handle the game, but even though my video card is a DX9 and 256mb card (above the requirements), I'm worried that the 4 pixel pipelines limit it too much. Here's the specs:

Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.73GHz
Memory: 512MB RAM
Hard Drive: 80 GB
Video Card: Radeon X1300 PCI (yeah, I'm stuck with PCI) Oh, and I forgot to mention I only have a PCI slot so that's why I'm stuck with this card unless buy a new comp

Thanx in advance to any help. : ) This is kinda a big decision for me, cause if it doesn't work out looks like I'm working 2 jobs at once during the summer for a new Pc

laggy with all off most likely, a x1300 isnt horrid but PCI is so slow it downgrades the card so much

It should run it ok, the pixle pipeline will hurt ya' but you should get a decent resolution with all the specs up with a decent FPS. If you have the cash, I recommend this.

LOL WALMART, your right in a sense, but it won't be horrid. You think that anything short of a 200 dollar card is bad, well it's not. He's not going to be able to run it at 1900 x 1200, but it will work decently, and thats all most people want.

he has a PCI card slot, not PCI-E

PCI-E is waaaaaaaaaay faster than PCI

Ya, I wrote that other post up before you replied, you just hit the reply button first. Didn't read it well. But ya, the PCI standard will hurt you.,

That's all I really want. Hell before this video card I played Halo Pc at 640x480 all low lol. All I want is for the game to run decently at 800x600 or 1024x768, with the extra 2Gb RAM and current video card could my machine pull it off?

Here you will need this to help you get your foot out of the back of your throat, looks llike its in there pretty deep. And what is that on your face? Egg?! *hands Kim a washcloth*

RAM WILL NOT make it run faster, things will load faster in the game and be able to supply the CPU with more data faster than reading it from the harddrive.

I have a PCI express slot, so it's all good. I never knew there was a diffrence between PCI and PCI express

PCI = Suxer
PCI - E = Pwnzer

Your right in fixing yourself up with the 2GB. As far as I can tell, thats the best investment option you have at the moment. Windows has always been a a RAM hog, and Vista is particularly enhanced with 1GB+.

Your graphics situation (PCI and the like), worries me a bit. An X1300 is descent in many respects, but I expect H2-Vista to be a bit sluggish (port'ed software, modern enhancements and all). I could be wrong however, Halo 2 was an original Xbox game after all - not 360. I would expect that 800x600 would run "OK" with most settings up to a "Functional" level *(by functional I mean textures and lighting being displayed correctly - perhaps not the higher quality versions, but by no means dumbed down from the Xbox version i.e. How Halo:CE would behave when running the lower settings. You know just bad.)

If I were you I would go ahead and prepare for the possibility of a not so enjoyable presentation with your current setup. And no I don't run off elite specs - I only use an X1600 myself and am generally concerned about how my own experience will be.

Bus Timeline

1)A shameful disgrace
2)PCI (out of the primordial soup, at last!)
3)AGP (Graphics Only)
4)PCI-E (too late in the game, other devices needed it earlier - now they've gone and ruined things...well at least it's here anyway.)

Wow, if you say an X1300 will barely upgrade, I need to upgrade fast...

That Celeron is going to kill you. Bad.

If it's anything like my Emachines 2.? GHz Celeron, you probably get 20 fps or less on Halo 1. Halo 2... I dunno, but it doesn't look good. I hate to say it but I would suggest buying a Pentium 4 processor, or just a new computer altogether.

If it were me, I'd do the same (didn't notice the Celeron bit). Should have mentioned that previously. NO AGP(8x) or PCI-E - your probably in dangerous waters anyway.

yeah, PCI-E 2.0 will rock, i think its like 3-4 Gbps and fully backwards compatible with PCI-E 1.0

IMO id worry about the CPU more than the GPU right now

Oh forgot to mention that, after upgrading to the X1300 I went from 640x480 all low to 1024x768 all max. I was thinking that Halo 2 ran on the original Xbox the same as Halo 1 did, so I was assuming that Halo 2 (though a bit more demanding) would be somewhat the same visuals I'm getting with Halo 1. That's why I need to know if my card can handle a playable experiance before I go 2Gb RAM for my Vista/Gaming.

u can just get a new motherboard.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168131350 22

thats smelleron compatible so youre fine for the moment, but it also supports the core 2 duo's (no quad core's though).

u might need new ram, but your hdd should be compatible if u format it before hand. im also assuming its a sata drive (most likely).

And you know he has socket 775 how?

Yeah, I know his computer needs a little bit of an upgrade. But I, unfortunately, can't find any AGP computers. Can anyone list some brands and models off please? Thanx.
