I was just wondering...
I mean I hear everybody getting mad at random companies for making us pay more money to play Live...hell I've gotten pissed too...but who, I ask, should we be mad at, if we should be mad at all?

Bungie?
CA?
Microsoft?
All of the above?

I dunno, sometimes I feel like I don't know who our complaints are supposed to be directed at...and I really do think it would help if we knew who to blame...instead of just sitting here saying "-blam!- everybody!"

From what I understand, here are the roles of the companies in the making of the 2 "new" maps:
Microsoft--Makes sure everything is going according to plan. Applies deadlines to Bungie and CA.
Bungie--Gives CA permission to make 2 new maps for Bungie's game.
CA--Makes the new maps for Bungie's game.

So which one of those would be a liable target for a typical "What the hell's the matta with you" statement?

Why the hell are you looking at this? Get out.

And no group invites, you jerk. I'm not interested.

To pay Certain Affinity, my not-friend. I'm sure the maps will become free later on.

if there is any blame 2 sling, i'd say all of the above

but i honestly dont care

Ah...so if there were a blameworthy opponent, it would be Certain Affinity...
In that case, I'll go back through all my raging posts and replace "Bungie" with "CA"...

Yeah, I do hope they're free later on...I mean 4 bucks isn't a lot, but still...

Heh...even though that was directed at me it was still kinda funny...
But I'm talking about Certain Affinity...you're talking about Bungie...

Well I don't think anyone should be to blame for us having to purchase the new maps. Certain Affinity spent time to create the maps, so I guess if you want to hate someone for having to spend a whole $4, then blame them. But honestly, would you devote a lot of time and effort into something for the masses and not expect anything in return? That's just stupid, they have salaries to pay, I honestly thought they were being fair b/c I thought these maps would cost more.

Wow, everyone should be GREATFUL that we are even getting any new maps. CA spent a lot of time on these maps and you think that they shouldn't get anything for it? There isn't a sponsor this time to make the maps free like there was last time we got new maps.

And still, it's only $4. For the price of coffee at Starbucks you can get something that you will have forever.

Sorry, it was meant to make you chuckle, but also to make the point that someone spent hundreds of hours on a project and I think some compensation for that work is fair. I work in graphic design and people CONSTANTLY want stuff for free. It's frustrating because I have to make a living and my time is valuable, just like the guys at Certain Affinity's time is valuable, y'know?

This is their first project and I'm sure they are going to invest the money into equipment and perhaps office space to grow their company so they can thrive. They'll probably charge $60 for their next project, which will be a whole game. They basically just made a mini-game so they're only selling it for $4.

That's how I see it, anyway. Gotta support those that are supporting us! This game is several years old and we're still playing it. New multiplayer maps is a dream come true, especially after Bungie said we were SOL as far as new content was concerned after the Map Pack came out. I just find it easier not to let little stuff like having to pay $4 piss me off, especially when I'm paying $3.50 for a gallon of gas. :]

I am supposed to be grateful that companies are making money? I should be grateful for Microsoft for making the 360? Why don't i just go ahead and donate my charity money to them too?

I have no problem with the maps being $4, i am just severally pissed that i have to pay for them, to play maybe more then 1-2 play lists.

Seriously people, this is a marketing move. CA would already be paid, because this is adding to the "hype" for Halo 3, drawing players back into the Halo Universe. They're just making us pay for their advertising move too.

Ok then, so lets go with your idea of Bungie having now paid CA for making the maps...but what does Bungie get? They just lost money with this move if the maps were released free.

And what purpose would there even be for releasing the new maps if they arn't going to be widely used in MM? The maps can't be free yet they need to be in MM to help justify them being made.

And this isn't a marketing move to hype Halo 3, this is a move to try and keep fans interested in Halo 2 when the Beta arrives along with keeping Halo 2 active all the way until the launch of Halo 3.

They arn't making us pay for their for their advertising move, because they arn't advertising anything. They are making us pay for new content for a 2 and a half year old game, content that Bungie said would NEVER be made after the last map packs.

Edit: I would just like the add something else. Looking at it from the other side of the spectrum...why would ANYONE, Bungie included, make such new content and not get anything in return? Why should companies like Bungie and CA have to work hard to bring us new content and get nothing for it?

They have already said the maps will eventually become free, but it will be a while before that happens and halo 3 will be what everyone is focused on by the time they are free. So if you cant pay $4 for two maps don't.
Wait cause eventually they will be free.
but dont complain. They have to pay bills some how.

And also the maps are not by any means required for xbox live play. I don't know if i plan on buying them or not.. Seeing as i will be testing beta soon. I will probably wait for them to be free! I;m sure it will be worth the wait!

The gaming industry is about gaming and making money off of gaming. Companies are created to make money. I'm sorry if that's shocking to you that companies make games for money, but it's the truth.

It's $4 dollars. No big deal at all.

The person that left Bungie to create Certain Affinity wanted to create his own studio for making money. They're just trying to make a living like everyone else.

I can answer with one word: Gears. I don't have to pay tor this stuff with Gears? And now i have to pay for it to play what I already paid for? Seriously, no thank you. They should've made another Team Preview play list. If you seriously don't think this is a marketing move, go to the Microsoft Website. Its covered with adds for this. Why would they do that for a $4 map pack? Because it will help seriously boost stocks when Halo 3 is released. They don't even talk about the new Gears of War thing, because that isn't advertising for Halo 3.

I agree whole-heartedly with the heart of this message, but not the body. I believe you meant to say:

It's fricking four dollars; pay it! My God, it's not the end of the world. Save the change you see on the street in a day and you'll have enough for the fricking maps.

-_-

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I really don't give a steaming load of -blam!-. Its four dollars, who cares? Thats less than one hour of work.

Love you Bungie!
Still playing Halo1 Custom Edition!

the fact is, they force us to get the maps to be allowed to play matchmaking. see that's the thing people don't get about XBL.the 14$ per month you pay, is already meant to cover those. you shouldn't be asked to pay for map packs and other necessities

Yeah really, thats true. We pay $50, for these kind of things. And seriously... this is like an expansion pack that takes away if you don't pay for it. I've never seen an expansion pack take away from what you have if you don't buy it. in COD 2 if you didn't buy the maps, you just didn't play them. In WoW, if you didn't pay for Burning Crusade, you just couldn't play as a Blood Elf, so basically, you could continue to do what you used to do. Nothing was taken away if you didn't pay.
