I'm here to gather and share ideas about groups and how to make them better when they come back.
What do you think will make it easier for group to become more user friendly?

Possible topics?
Rank-system?
What is it?

Yes, I am basicly asking it from you as I have made groups earlier. One of them managed to get some 50 active members until that petty "group-war", I had to leave my group to someone else because I was "noob" back then and didn't know how to make change my accounts password, so someone knew my e-mail address and "cracked" my password, thus destroying my group.

After that it was hard to get people active in my other groups. So I was thinking that we could use this thread as sharing ideas about how to make groups active, and if by any chance, maybe create one group-idea which would be bestest group in whole B.net... eh?
Maybe not.

Rank-system and how to make it work?
Only three ranks, or should groups have more? How to decide who gets one, "promotions", contests with promotion prizes? Those rarely work?

Help?

Each groups admins should be able to run thier groups as they see fit.

If your group isnt active, maybe you chose the wrong people to be in your group or the group was just boring. Bungie can't decide how to make your group better.

Wait... are you resurrecting an old thread? Well in all honesty, I think that ranks and activity ideas are completely up to the group founder. Some people like making groups focused solely on membership. I think it would be difficult to collectively agree on stuff.

They never said 3-4 weeks. They never gave a date, actually. On second thought, they never gave a rough estimate, really.. They'll be back up when the web team decides they need to be back up.

I would think that they would be back sooner rather than later since Achronos said the were just going to port the groups over and worry about adding new features later. I have been known to be wrong before.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

I messaged Achronos about this a few days ago and this is, word for word, what he said:

Message to American Recoil by Achronos on 4/4/2007 at 11:45 AM -

We're having a meeting today here to figure out how we're going to deal with them. Our problem is one of scheduling - we have lots of ideas for groups, but we also have lots of Halo 3 stuff to do. Obviously, they shouldn't stay off until Halo 3, so we're going to try and hatch a plan to bring them back in phases - probably coming back at first with no new features, and then adding as we go.

Hopefully. We'll let you know (probably in the Bungie.net Community forum and the weekly updates) on our progress there.

No definite time. It must be pretty close to the re-opening.

Covenant Cival War

Oh yeah BTW...... WHERES'S MY GIGGITY COOKIE!!!

rank system wise I found that you get more atraction than usuall when you say you'll make custom ranks. And if you add alot of topics to the forums that people like than that also attracts more to the group.

Good info Saint.
I really miss my groups right now.

actually, they said, before the New Hawtness, in the first article mentioning the site update, that the groups should be back within a few weeks of the site update.

Groups are active if they have good members. What attracts good members is decent content (not just stupid ranks and competitions), and a group founder who actually cares about the group - one who is working toward a goal - not some illiterate child who wants to gain as many members as possible for bragging rights.

Well, there's a guide for creating groups right here in the Septagon Stickies; it's got some good information! When groups come back there's one called "Chapter Founders" that you should look out for - it is dedicated to helping people start groups and run them effectively. :]

As for new group features, we really won't know until we get them back so...

I don't think Chapter Founders is such a great example to use there, nor something for budding group founders to aspire to. It lacks any significant content or forum activity.

Actually the Chapter Founders had great information and tips. You have to read through all of their articles to get complete knowledge of what they rae trying to explain. There were other chapters that I was a part of that specifically help people with their groups. I learned a few things from Sick Pimpin as well.

I hear that groups that were already started before Teh New Hawtness 2.0 was put into affect will be extremely customizable. I can't wait til the release. I believe the B.net team is still discussing a few things about chapters and I will bet anything that there will be some sort of "Chapters Re-opening Soon" or "Chapters are now open!" or something like that in this weeks update. Just be patient and all will be good.

Really? I don't recall reading anything of much use there. I guess you and I have differing opinions. Oh, and don't worry, I am being patient. I just hope it will be worth it.
