Subject: Can my computer take Halo 2 Vista?

I have been planning to get Halo 2 Vista when it comes out, and have a few quesions about it. First, will my computer be able to run Halo 2 Vista? Its a Compaq 6010, an AMD Athlon XP 1600 1.4ghz processor, 256mb ram (I plan on getting a 512mb RAM card, so 768mb when I get Vista), 40gb hard drive, 32mb nVida GeForce 2 graphics (built into motherboard), Windows XP Home (getting Vista soon) and Ubuntu Linux (dual-boot). Will the game at least run smoothly with this setup? Also, how much money can I plan on spending on Windows Vista and the hardware to run it? Because I use Linux as my main OS, I plan on getting just Vista Basic. I know I must get a new RAM card, but my graphics card seems old too.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Ewww that doesn't look good, you will be fine with ram, but whats up with the processor? And you could atleast get a 100 gig HDD for not a whole lot. Oh What is your mobo?

Oh -blam!- man. Yea, just get Basic. I'd upgrade your processor to a 64-bit, doesn't have to be dual core, but 64-bit. Get a GB of RAM, I'm running 768 right now, and it's hellish. The video card's going to have to be updated too, if you want to stay in bounds, get a 7600 GT from EVGA, which is the lowest 7600 I know that works with Vista. That should total around $300-$350, so you should be good to go.

You're computer, really won't get anywhere close to running Halo 2 Vista. Sadly, you're probably going to just have to get a whole new PC.

No, it can't. Based on what I saw, you need a 2GHz processor and other stuff. System Requirement for H2V (mininum)
Windows Vista™
Processor: 2 Ghz Pentium 4 class processor (or x64)
RAM: 1 GB
Hard Drive: 7 GB
Video Card: DX9 graphics card: WDDM driver, PS 2.0/32BPP, At least nVidia 6000 or ATI x700 or above
Online Multi-player: Internet connection for Games for Windows – LIVE
Drive: DVD-ROM drive

In my opinion, I would reccomend a
2.66GHz Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon 3200+
Windows Vista
1280MB RAM
80 GB Hard Drive with 10GB Free (add 3GB because of custom maps)
Direct X 9 compatible ATI Radeon X700+ or nVidia GeForce 7300LE Turbocache Pixel Shader 2.0 32 bits per pixel
at least 384kbps DSL Internet Acces for Windows LIVE
DVD-ROM Drive

Is it possable, though, to get H2V running on my computer, even though it only has a 1.4ghz processor? I dont mind the occational lag, as long as it is minimal. If it cant, where can I find a processor cheap? I also have a laptop. It at least has a 2ghz Pentium 4 proccessor, and I can get a RAM card (it only has 256mb of RAM) Unfortunatly, it only has a 16mb graphics card! I dont even see anything lower than 32mb these days on new computers! And I dont even think laptop graphics cards can be upgraded without getting a whole new mobo. Halo 1 does run pretty well, though on my laptop, its what I play on right now while Im waiting for my dad to give me his old Compaq (the one I mentiouned earlier) Only problom with running H2V on it, besids the graphics card, is that its a Toshiba Satellite 1905, and only has a 40 Gb hard drive, which I partitioned into a 28gb Windows partition, 11gb Linux partition, and the rest for Linux swap. The graphics card is also an issue.

That kind of depends on the computer and the hardware in it. My computer might.
Here's what I'm running:

DELL Dimension 2400
Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2
2194 MHz Intel Pentium 4 Processor 2.20 GHz
2.19 GHz., 512 MB of RAM
64 MB Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller

THATS AS MUCH INFO THAT I CAN GIVE.

I am going to save up my money to get a new computer with Windows Vista Premuim.
My suggestion is that you just get a new computer that comes with Windows Vista. Its much CHEAPPER. TRUST ME.
Getting new stuff for your computer is more expensive than buying a new computer.

Trust me. I have an Uncle who use to be a computer tech. and another Uncle who works for the Government. (I AM NOT LYING ABOUT THIS STUFF)

MY COMPUTER MIGHT HANDLE WINDOWS VISTA AND HALO 2 VISTA.

Dude, no one cares. The fact that you typed I AM NOT LYING ABOUT THIS STUFF) shows that you're just trying to impress us. A bunch of people on an internet forum. My dad works for the government. Four of my uncles and one of my aunts work for the government. Does anybody care? *listens to the crickets* Didn't think so.

Your computer will not run H2V as you have a terrible graphics processor (not even a card).

Get Intel processor and MoBo, Core 2's are around the same price and way better that AMD's, but yeah, it will run :P

As for the OP, don't even bother with Vista if you have less than a gig of ram, you would be better off getting a new computer

3.0GHz Pentium 4 HT
1GB DDR
GeForce7600 GS PCI-E 16x

I know my computer is able to run H2V, but do I need a better video card if I want to run it with graphics cranked up to medium/maximum, at 30fps and up?

Yeah I am just saying instead of getting an AMD processor, you should get a Intel Core 2 E6400 or E6600 because it would kick the 4200+ and the E6400 is only $200 and the E6600 is only $300
