I work here: Sound Devices, LLC. We make bad-ass field audio gear, and you think that's awesome. My messy desk (With work-related items on the computer screen).

One does not simply grenade jump into Mordor...

I like the bookmark feature, and I use it. I just thought it would also be nice if, when viewing the list of threads in any given forum, that the threads that I have posted in were highlighted in some fashion. This could be a little icon, or some sort of subtle color difference in the text or background of the particular thread. What do you all think?

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

This might encourage spam. I can imagine somebody trying to post in every thread on the front page just to be able to say that they did it, and then making a new thread bragging about it.

If I forget which threads I've posted in, I usually just check the "more posts by this user" feature. I've found that this suffices to refresh my memory.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

Yes, the spam part is true. I don't think there will be updates to the public forum anytime soon but it is a nice idea.

"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me."

How would that encourage spam? The highlighted part would only show up on their account, and no one elses. Sure, perhaps some members would make threads about how their entire screen is filled with purple (highlight color) but who really cares? It would be just the the same amount as all of the other off-topic threads. That's my two cents.

On another note, I gotta wonder why anytime someone tries to bring up an idea, it's shot down by telling them that it'll cause elitism/spam...

2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

You people are on again with the whole "spam" deal? No, it wouldn't encourage spam. We had something like this in the old layout, where threads you visited would be a different color. I just want THAT feature back because it was useful. It didn't encourage spam at all...

What I said originally was that it "might" encourage spam, and that is still quite true. I would have thought that you two know my posts well enough to know that I do not simply cry "spam" or "elitism" at every new idea. If I say that there will be a problem with one or the other, then I have legitimate reasoning to back it up. If you want to see it, just read the first post in this thread.

Duardo: You acknowledged some users might make posts about how their whole screen was filled with the highlighted color, but you forget what it would take for a user to get that to happen -- spam posting in every single thread on the front page. I find it highly doubtful that anyone could achieve that without posting something useless in at least some of those threads.

Secondly Duardo, you are wrong in your assertion that every idea is shot down on spam or elitism grounds. The vast majority of ideas that are shot down on these grounds usually have some flaw that really would encourage one or the other. If the original thread author (or anyone else) wants to defend the idea, then he or she may do so. But I could point you to at least ten different "new" ideas on the first page or two of the Septagon that do not have a single reply mentioning elitism or spam.

Code Zero: There is a major difference between what you're talking about and this idea. I would hope that it would be obvious to you that there is a huge difference between the thread author's idea and your mentioning of a thread changing color because you have visited it, regardless of whether you posted in it. The former *might* encourage some spammers to post spam in order to see if they can "get the whole page to change color." Whereas the latter simply rewards a user who is good at clicking fast.

Hey, good idea. I never thought of that method.

It would certainly help me out: I don't post in nearly as many threads I view. I've only used the "Save Thread" feature a couple of time.

This seems way more convenient.

I Concur. We need to get visited links color back. I swear I've clicked the same thread at least 5 times expecting something new to be there, and there wasn't. Too used to the old scheme. =[

x Foman123 x, my point was that it would be very stupid for someone to post in every topic just to get their screen color changed, and then make a thread about it. It would be pointless, and most likely would lead to a blacklisting (which would then lock the member's thread/delete all of the member's posts).

As for my other statement: yes, I realize that many ideas are not shot down by elitism/spam, but I see that those two are the most common responses. I'm sorry if I somehow offended you, but I'm just getting sick of (what seems like) every idea geting shot down with the most common response being that it would lead to elitism/spam.

As to the OP, I think this is a great idea and I hope that the web team considers it, or at least has a better way of showing what thread you've been to.

I can see how it could lead to spam, but I doubt it'll be much (and if it does, it can just be taken away.)

-Perhaps when the ranking system is finally implemented, this could be a feature for "good" members.

You people have a tendency to accuse everything of being spam bait, you know. I don't think people would make five hundred threads just to see theirs highlighted. Besides, there's a thread limit to prevent that.

I'm all for the idea. It was actually something I was surprised to see they didn't implement.

Thanks Duardo. I, also, did not mean to offend anyone. I was just throwing it out there.... it is a valid consideration, and probably one that the web team has thought about.

I was not trying to end the thread or shoot down the idea... I don't do that. I was merely trying to see what kind of controls AnalogWeapon thought might be implemented to PREVENT this from becoming a spam-encouraging feature. That's why I said that the feature "might" encourage spam.

I do not think that the idea is a bad one at all. To be honest, though, I personally can usually remember the threads I've posted in. For me, the feature would be somewhat redundant. Still a pretty good idea, but it would definitely need some thought into the spam issue and potential counterbalances to control it.

I too grow tired of so many ideas simply being shot down initially by reasons of spam/elitism before they can grow. Is there a party going on is Recon's SPAM-mobile?

I actually think this idea is not bad. I also miss the changed font color for visited threads. It saved me a couple clicks of going through my Bookmarks. I know, that's not much time, but it was handy.

Ah, look at the lonely people...

I could see the spammers posting screenshots of the entire forums page lit up... no. I mean, if we didn't have jerks on the forums, I'd like this, but it'd cause too much grief among the idiots.
