sweet!!!it comes out on my day off so i don't even have to schedule time off or quit my job....WOOT!!!!!!!!!!! i am so glad i just got my new hdtv so i can play this on a bigger screen than my my computer monitor, and with my stereo hooked up, all i can say is full in-depth audio and video experience... hope to see alot of you online... wait, knowing everyone here is an avid halo fan, i don't have to hope, i know i will. whether it be in the lobby, or on my sniper scope, i will see u there. also, since this is a midnight release, who's buying the starbucks to keep us up??? that is for those who won't have the excitement, anticipation, or adrenaline rush to stay up without it. doesn't matter i guess, all i know is i will see u there and have fun testing this thing out (and occasionaly slapping a grenade on ur back!). i know it will be awesome, and that i will not be going to sleep for about 2 days.

Reach!

Demonwrogt, nice post. I am also not worried about the graphics, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to play Halo 3! The trip mines seem like a nice addition. Bubble shield is a great idea to battle being shot from behind from dual-wielding -blam!-s! Hope to see you all soon. Oh and Bungie keep up the fantastic support!!

Meh, I really don't see much use in fussing over X buttons, trip mines, bubble shields, and man cannons. I'll be busy looking at the nice, clean, clear, refreshingly realistic water. I'm going to play on Valhalla first and take a drink out of a bottle of the most expensive water I can find when I run under the waterfall. And then I'm going to walk around the map and admire how the grass blows in the wind and crunches under my feet, much like the way that the grass outside has been doing for the past month prior to this weeks blaming cold snap. My petunias....

I love you Bungie. Thanks for the scenery.... Douglas Adams rocks.

I have a idea, why not release the download now.... but only activate it on the date? Then it will avoid the 100000's of people who are all downloading at once and getting 1bps! Halo 3 beta - released 16/05/07..... first download completed 20/06/07! just an idea! I'm as happy as the next man and really cant wait! Nice one, looks amazing to! i was so excited just watching you guys play, wont be able to sniper the first few game - shaking with excitment!

I feel the flame burning my face already for this following statement, but someone had to be pessimistic about this.

Granted- The video and the statement of the release date are both FRIGGIN AWESOME, however....

Bungie..... this is supposed to be a BETA TEST. Why less than a month?

The shortest OPEN BETA I've ever seen on a game in my entire life of gaming was a little less than a year.

So much for finding/fixing any in-game/gameplay bugs... They'll be lucky to collect enough network information in the time allotted to do anything with it.

I was hoping for at least 2-3 months.. then perhaps some weapon glitches could be found n fixed. I suppose there will be patches after the release, but it's always best to start working on it early then after the release the patch wouldn't be too far behind.

Sorry Bungie, but this is NOT a beta test.. It's more like a demo.

I sincerely hope that IF anything drastic needs attention in Halo 3, that you'll be able to find it in this ridiculously small window of testing time you have set.

Anyways, I'll be VERY happy to get to play Halo 3 early, even if it is for a short time... But I wish it was more of a test, rather than just a demo.
(Still extremely happy though :O )

I've gotta agree it is a bit short for a beta test but hey im not complainin' because it will be the best spent three weeks of my life until halo 3 actually comes out.
Also about the x button yer it does deploy the bubble shield and the trip mine but at some point when they are talking about high ground a clip shows a spartan deploy something that looks like a portable grav lift which gives him a boost when he jumps, its about 27 seconds into the video so take a look. also directly after on 28 seconds you can see a spartan jumping with what looks like a warthog turret in his hands. and if i remember correctly in the bungie things they keep releasing about weapons and vehicles it said that the warthog turret was detachable?!?!?! it sure as hell looks like it. i found the bit of the warthog description that says what i said earlier about the turret and here it is and i quote bungie "The mounted weapon includes a battery for short term operation separated from the vehicle, but normally operates on the vehicle’s power supply." and there it is proof to back what i said earlier incase anybody needed it:D

After watchin it like four times now i just keep getting more excited. watch it for yourselves and see what you think. thanks bungie i can't wait to play halo 3 in a month shame ive got my exams the day after the release: ( ahwell... its halo 3! the anticipation is unbearable!
another point wtf is on the ceiling to the left at 6:32 looks like an orang bubble shield but upside down but as soon as the sniper shot goes off it goes away? hmm any thoughts anybody?

Okay... first of all how many people are really going to be participating in this beta test... NOT 100000's becuase they didnt let THAT many people into it. So its not going to overload the server as much as you think. Also, the other demo downloads that have come out have had ALOT more people trying to download them and all that so thats why its slower. This isnt going to be that bad since hundred's of thousands of people arnt going to be downloading it at the same time.

I saw that too and i was puzzled. I think its just the Alpha build that they were playing in it. Alot of the graphics arnt completly done yet in what they showed us. But it may be something. Also, what do you guys think the X Button will do when you dont have any equipment to deploy. It wouldnt seem right for them to just have an empty button taht doesnt do anything. Any ideas on what itll do then?

Yeah I noticed that but it's actually just a little grav pad thing. Have a look at the base of it.

"Spartans never die, Tom, they just go missing in action." -Carter, NOBLE Team

"I don't care if it's God's own anti-sunnuva--blam!--machine or a giant hula hoop, we're not going to let these damn bugs take it!" - Sgt. Johnson's speech to the landing party on the UNSC Pillar of Autumn, Legendary Mode.

After you used up your equipment, the hallowed X button will simply be used for muting people who annoy you. And I believe equipment may be as rare as active camo or overshield. There's only one of each on every map usually, but i donno. I bet theres gonna be a rush for the equipment when every match begins, though theres no hurry, as most of the players will be to busy gawking at the trees, grass and water, which are so much like the real life they havent seen for weeks.

Ya, im pretty sure that strange weapon the Spartan was holding was not a flamethrower. It has large gaps in the barrel, alot like the chaingun, and would cause the flame to simply seep out the front, and burn the user, look cool, cause global warming (if it hasnt already happened) and waste fuel. Its probably a pick-uppable new weapon which is so good that Frankie doesn't even wanna say anything about it.

For those of you who didnt catch it, the grav lift is used in the beginning of the Doc on high ground and the guy uses it to jump from the ground all the way up to the turret. Really easy to miss.

To Silint Ninjya

I don't believe that anyone could have caught this one on the board, but for all of you out there taking electrophysics in physics class, the sign you made (a trident like shape) stands for luminocity (I know im a nerd) in the equation E= \|/ / A, where E is illumination of any sorts, and A is a measure of a uniformly illuminated surface, with the \|/ standing for a "luminous flux", which may be hard to explain to some of you (or you already know). Basically, they're just calculating real time physics and lighting in a digital game world, which is something that fascinates me as much as the game itself, and in this case it may be a realtime estimation of the amount of light given off by an interior light in a building.

Or maybe its just the trident symbol from Halo 2, who knows, but I know that this may be a sign of things to come in next-gen games, where real estimations of luminoscity and light capacity are fused into a digital world, which would mean actual "physics" in the sense of study type physics in High School and College, in a game world... if im anywhere near right to what you meant on that board Bungie.

Besides that, im gonna chill till Halo 3 comes out... actually its pretty late so i gotta go sleep... the rest of you take chill pills, slowly read what was in my post again, and in the update, and think about what i just said...

i have watched it a couple of times and didnt see a chaingun and yes there is one i read about it in the latest story

  • 04.14.2007 9:07 AM PDT

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses. Hit It.

1. its a grav lift cos it lifts the blue spartan up (duh) and it must be deployable cos (i) they wouldnt put it there in the game it would make it too easy and (ii) it wasnt in any of the other scenes or screenshots. 2.ITS A BLAMMIN CHAINGUN!!! look at it n its shadow. 3 barrels!

Yes, Im English.

Ok, I've watched the video a few times know and I don't see a chaingun or flamethrower either. There is one part on high ground where a spartan is firing a brute spiker but where is this "flamethrower."?!
