Right, so on halo pc online, you have to aim infront of players to hit them with your shots. On higher ping you have to aim further. People hate it, but it is definitely doable and some of us find it pretty simple. Lets look at the netcode for other FPS games:
Counter Strike: Source
Right, so they tried to compensate for lag by making people only have to hit you where you were. This can lead to you dieing in places you were not even standing in, or were standing in a moment ago. Not only this, but they have overdone the lag compensation, meaning that sometimes on high ping you dont aim at them to kill them, you aim where you just saw them to be. You lead...behind them.
Counter Strike: 1.0-1.6
Back in the days of LPBs and HPBs, Counter Strike was not even in the same par of netcodes for other games at its release, the netcode seemed flawless as I ran around firing my deagle with 400 ping, It seemed almost possible to get a really good score. Now, I personally am not 1 that pretends to know anything about computers to the extent of explaining how stuff like this works, but I know packet loss was a big thing to do with it, and though I can't remember there being any lead, sometimes when you sniped a guy that wasnt moving and should obviously be a direct hit, the bullet seemed to sparrk on his body and do no damage. Packet loss. Then as soon as LPBs came about and you had to face those basretards with 25 ping, you got owned very very badly.
Quake 4:
Few would know about the netcode for this game because it is so inactive online, maybe cos the people who do play it online have mastered quake over the years? There are certainly no nubs there. I play it, and I do well when I have a ping of 50 or lower. Everything seems fine. Suddenly I am playing my computer at 4am and the only active servers are US servers, I hop in and try to kill people with my 200 ping. Oh wait? WTF? I thought ping had no effect? Nothing is hitting, and I wonder why. Eventually I pull out the railgun and do what ~DRA~Nessy does best. I start to lead, omfg this game with players moving acrosss the map in moments actually has lead... I can not believe it, now in halo, if you try to lead on someone then you know they are only going to be a little to the left or right of where you see them, but on Quake 4, they could be on the other side of the map in that tiny moment.
So all you people that hate Halo for its terrible netcode, hate these games more.
PS: UT games netcode is alike the original CS and Q3s netcode is like Q4s
