Subject: A community thought on the Beta.

If you don't got it, you want it. If you got it, you want more of it. Of course if you don't know what it is, it's hard to get any in the first place.

So now that the Beta date has been announced, and most of the beta's have been "passed out" via "The Rule of 3" and "Family and Friends". So then how will 21 days affect the community?

Obviously we're going to get another influx of fans who are visiting Bungie.net for the first time, and I'm sure that many hardcore Bungie fans have managed to secure themselves a spot in the beta, but then what? Will B.net continue on as (close to normalcy as) it always has, or will the Beta shake things up in new ways?

I'd love to hear what your thoughts might be.

It should be fun :-)

Hectic, crazy, full of even more "lesser intelligent" people than there are now, but it'll be overall fun.

I think it's going to make Halo 3's release less exciting for those involved in the beta.
They already know what to expect.

it's only 3 maps on multiplayer. That give no more information then what has already been told to us by bungie.

not only that but this beta will help make the online experience even better.

That's not what he was asking. He was specifically asking about b.net.

In my opinion, things will carry on pretty much as normal. We'll get some more spammers and flamers, but we'll also get some more intelligent, contributive members. The mods might have more work to do (maybe a LOT more work) but otherwise, the Community will just carry on.

The big change will be when Halo 3 comes out. I think then, we can expect a big influx of people who are simply excited to talk about the game. This will be largely concentrated in the Halo 3 forum, but some of it may spill over into other forums as well. This is certainly not a bad thing, but it will be very different. I predict that conversations on the H3 forum are a lot less about intricate storylines and a lot more about general graphics and gameplay issues. Again, however, the community will carry on, bolstered by the support of the long-time Bungie fans.

As evilcam likes to say, "Business as usual FTW!"

I don't think so. If the beta is good then I'll look forward to the game even more. If the beta sucks I'll look forward to Bungie fixing the issues and playing a polished game.

The only way it could detract from the launch of the finalized version is if the fundamental gameplay sucks on an epic scale.

Edit: And to the original point of the topic, I'm sure there will be a lot of new people hanging around the site. But really what difference will a few more jackholes make? I suppose the worst part will be people that don't get to play the beta accidentally seeing some information in the forums they would have preferred to have not known about until they played first hand.

I think people are gonna be happy with the release of Halo 3. The Campaign will be exciting to see what happens. The MP will also be cool because we get to play the other levels besides the 3 demo levels.

We'll get more activity, and probably an even distribution of morons and intelligent users. There's some constant ratio that seems to appear no matter how many people use the site.

I would concur. Somehow a balance is maintained.

You have been plundered by Cap'n IceWolfen. Arggggggggg!

ok first of all, i dont think the beta is gonna ruin everything. For one, the beta is not gonna have near as much stuff like the real thing will have. Remember over and over again that Frankie said, "This is the ALPHA VERSION!!". The game will look way better in its final release, which is to say that it already looks freakin awesome.

Now about the influx of noobs and stuff, i have to agree to some extent. I mean, you all know as well as i do that there is gonna be a group of idiots that are gonna complain about the quality of the graphics and stuff. That's a given. I dont like those noobs, and many of you dont like it either, but we should still welcome the guys. I mean, ive been a hardcore fan since halo 1, but there where fans before that who like playing marathon, myth, oni, ect. So at one point i was a noob also. I mean, might as well welcome the following with somewhat welcoming arms.

also, i wanna add my compliments to bungie on a freakin nice job with what i saw in the video today. I have to say the sound....well, sounds freakin cool. The grenade explosions sound like those from GOW, and those sounds are great. Also, i have to say i was suprised by alot of things. The shield for one. I also liked the mines. Now im gonna be a bit confused about the whole freeze frame thing but once we get our hands on the game i bet its gonna be freakin cool.

So overall, i think everybody should just chill and keep yourselves optimistic. I cant ell you how many threads ive read where something cool is released and somebody out there has to freakin worry about something all the time. Instead of worrying, why dont you just play the game, chill in the forums, and get on with living, not with worrying.

because if seeing is believing,
then believe that we have lost our eyes

The beta was ( For all we know ) created to get feedback from players on what things are right, and more importantly wrong, with what the game is working with so far. I honestly don't think the site's popularity will make a huge spike after this beta. The community after the beta won't change dramticly. The popularity might jump a little, but nothing to be worried about.

That sounds about right. The only problem I have with the Beta is that some people that have been playing Halo since the original Xbox release won't get to play it. Me and my best friend both applied via email, and the Rule of Three yet we didn't make it. So our only other choice is to spend money on a horrible GTA clone. I camped out both times for the release of 1 and 2. I don't know If I'll be camping for this one.

I guess I'm only really pissed because my other friend (who I don't really like) got the last copy of Crackdown with the Beta in my town.

If you don't got it, you want it. If you got it, you want more of it. Of course if you don't know what it is, it's hard to get any in the first place.

For the most part, if you look at past "demo"'s Bungie has put out, they rarely spoiled the whole game. I think this will be a great way to get some general balancing in on the game, check for bugs and more importantly glitches, and test the MM software.

I think (But I'm not Bungie) that they want to provide a general sampling of Halo 3's gameplay, let the forum (I mean in the sense of Rome, but whatever) voice their opinion on things which are frustrating, or need some retooling, or general "balancing". It's also a great way to make those maps glitch proof come September/ November.

I'm a little worried about this somehow prompting a wave of elitism among the stupider folk in the forums, but I don't see how that can be avoidable.

I'm also extremely jealous of all of you who got into the Beta :p Blast my not having a 360 yet! (Of course the balance to that being the sheer number of , idiots, and stupid jerks, and stupid jerk faced idiots who get in instead.)

I agrre with Robo. I mean, when halo 2 was first released and peeps got onto xboxlive, halo 2 was full of glitches. I mean, that happens with almost everygame out that that has online play. Glitches will happen, and then we all get frustrated trying. I think this beta will help prevent that kind of thing from happening.
Lets take Gears Of War, for example. The thing had tons of glitches, which was a huge deterent for everybody who picked up the game at launch. I for one, was ticked off at Gears of War, and stopped playing for the most part. Only once or twice did i pick it back up. So thats prolly the whole reason behind the beta. To prevent people from judging halo 3 at the launch date on online glitches and stuff. I mean, wouldnt it be awesome to pick up Halo 3, get online, and start playing without a single glitch confronting you? That would be gamer heaven right there.

Don't worry. From what Bungie has been saying, the game will be very different from the actual game. The people playing the Beta will be just as awe-struck as you when they play ti for the first time.

Edit: Its only going to last 2-3 weeks. Its not like you are missing out on 4 months of halo3 Beta action. Seven more days until the new maps! I'm sure a lot of people playing the Beta will come back all the time to play the new maps.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Alright, this thread is not about the actual beta, its about how the community will react when the beta is released. That discussion belongs in another forum. In other words, please get back on topic.

I think the population will increase, and the problems that arise from that eventuality are ever present, but I don't think it will really change anything. Newer members will join, and a lot of them won't read the rules, so I'm sure I'll be busy, but it shouldn't really affect you guys. As Fo said, it will probably be business as usual. So, don't worry about it.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

I can see some good coming out of it. There is a chance of some good discussion coming out of the Beta. Especially from new members. Of course since I will be playing it that gives Bob a bit more targets to hit. Be careful kiddies.

After all is said and done hopefully we can keep some of the good apples around and further enrich the community.

I personally think we will need some Halo 3 sub-forums, to keep the mess semi-organized:

Weapons (uses, pros, cons)
Vehicles (as above)
Multiplayer (maps, tactics, weapon sets, game types)
Single Player (storyline, eggs, player guide)
Maps (including music and terrain)

Maybe others too, I dunno.
