Hello to everyone here in The Maw,

I've been trying to get Halo PC and CE to work on a friend's laptop, which uses a Mobility Radeon 9600 (64Mbit).
He's able to get past the intro videos but when the main menu kicks in, the whole screen starts to flicker white.
Now I know that microsoft has a some solutions and I've tried a couple of them, but it just won't help.

I tried the following solutions:
-Update to 1.07
-Use14
-Use20
-Driver Update to 7.3

It can't be the specs of the laptop either, as they all meet the recommended requirements I think.
Would any of you people have any ideas on how I can solve this problem?

Thanks!

Check you're DirectX settings. (run Dxdiag) There might be something not right, or you may need to update your version.

Or maybe his computer is a little old.

What it is.

Make sure Hardware Acceleration is up all the way. Not sure if that's the problem, but ya never know.

Flicking white? Sounds to me like your driver's aren't up to date or your card, for whatever reason, isn't up to snuff. Seen stuff like that after frying an old nVidia card too....

Woa thanks for the quick replies!

Anywho..I'll try to install some Omega drivers for this card, maybe that will help.
Thanks again!

The 64mb part is probably the reason right there. Doesn't Halo require at least 128mb video card for advanced graphics? If so, then the card probably cant handle much higher than Fixed function graphics, and forcing it to run Shader 1.4 or 2.0 graphics might cause some bad effects to happen. Try using -useff and -novideo in the halo target line parameter.

Actually, halo only requires 32MB. But I reccomend 128MB ofr better performance.

I meant that if his 64 bit wasnt good enough for advanced graphics, that pushing it to run shader 1.4 or 2.0 might be causing the problem.

Here you will need this to help you get your foot out of the back of your throat, looks llike its in there pretty deep. And what is that on your face? Egg?! *hands Kim a washcloth*

Ram doesnt let you run advanced affects, it only affects how big the textures storedin memory are etc. The 9600 series supports all the features needed to run halo at max settings, how well it will perform depends on what settings you use.
