If you want to see the MC die, play Legendary. If you want to see MC finish the fight, play Halo 3. If you want to see MC finish the fight by dieing, why did you waste six years when you could have done it yourself right now?

☼►Popular Fusion - Doing anything, everything, and then some.◄☼

Let me get straight to the point before I go ranting away. More attention and more participation needs to be taken into every forum on this site from the moderators. There's the point. Here's the details.

On April 1, a thread was created that seemingly tied in and added to the Cortana Letters. Some members started digging, some screamed fake and flamed, some tried to counter the flame, and some tried to summon the mods for some sort of statement. It was a real mess, but if you've been around, you've definitely been through worse.

The fact that it was fake or not is not the point. Even if it was fake, it made a great fanfiction plenty seemed to enjoy despite the fact that we were forced to look like idiots in the process. All the flamers wanted to do was try to get us to stop even though we kept saying why referring back to the "fanfiction" statement.

All of the above is not the issue here. It was the move made by the mods that is. There was no statement to my knowledge, there was no lockage of the threadage. Nope. Some fool just deleted it completely and put frowns upon our faces.

Oh don't worry, I've pieced together what likely happened. All it took was one moderator that got one too many PMs about it that they got too irritated and used there powers to shut the community up. I probably would have done the same thing if I hadn't cared that much about it either.

However, the thing that bothers me is the fact that absolutely no mod responded in the thread. NONE! You guys must hate that forum just as much as the rest of us do. But, that's where the conversation is, and therefore where more mods need to spend their time, and by spend their time, I don't mean lock every thread that's off-topic. What I'm trying to say is more posts need to be made. It may help keep the sanity in that forum. Even I start looking at people funny in real life after one too many hours in that forum.

All it took was a simple statement like, "I agree. Even if it's fake, it may be fun to look into. Keep it up members." If that had come out of a mods mouth rather then someone like me who the majority of the community seems to not even see half the time as it is, maybe people would start acting more mature as they do in the OTHER forums on this site. Just a suggestion.

And no, I'm not telling you how to do your "job". It's not like you're getting paid to do it. I'll admit, I'd probably do a worse job as time progresses. I'm speaking from experience on that sentence =(

PS: Does anyone happen to remember the url to that freewebs thingy? I at least want to see what happened.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

I just have a question for clarification: is the issue the fact that the "new cortana letter" thread was deleted completely or that the moderators do not post enough in forums like the Halo 3 forum?

Or both?

EDIT Here's the url to the "new cortana letters": http://www.freewebs.com/cortanahome/

Hey, Foman. They don't post enough, especially threads they no doubt get PMs about, and even if they do take action in what I'm calling "conflict threads," it's just to bury it. Sure, they still post, yet not enough.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

I for one have no idea about what happened. As for a couple of things in your post though I will address.

1. As for a statement most times now we do not even need or wish to do that. With the new warning system in place we can warn without actually posting and bumping the thread. Also sometimes we will warn via pm as to achieve the same ends. Just because you do not see us does not mean we are not there. Sometimes if I am the only one who is on I do not have time to post a reply to every single thread I lock. Sometimes there are just too many fires to put out to give a reason for a lock. I try to do it as much as I can but there are times when I am just too busy.

2. As for the deletion that could possibly have been an accident. We tend to only do that as a last resort. I am not sure, but there used to be a bug when using Fire Fox that would bring up a delete screen if we were viewing a thread and went to do a search. If you hit enter it would ask if you wanted to delete the thread. If the moderator who did this just hit the button too quickly then it would have deleted it without him even possibly knowing it. Like I said I am not sure if that bug is still around because I tend to back up to the main forum before I search.

3. I do not see what good would come of us spending most of if not all of our time in the Halo 3 forum. All of the forums need our attention. If we were to stay in there then next thing we know other forums would get out of control. Nope our route consists of all the forums on B.net and that is what we will continue on doing.

4. I for one can understand you being upset and wishing to find out what happened. The main thing I see a problem with is that in your post you said nothing of sending any pm's to any of the moderators. Did you not even think to ask one of us what happened? Maybe we could have found out for you or possibly you could have had your answer for the mod themselves. Just a suggestion for the next time. We do answer them when we can. :)

Like I said. I understand you being upset. I would be too. Just remember we are fallible. I do agree though if it was deleted on purpose there should have been a message sent out to the OP at least. That way there would be at least a reason behind what was done. If we do not do that then it does look like we are trying to silence people, but that is why it is a last resort and only saved for really bad threads. In that regard it makes it seem to me that this might have been an accidental deletion.

Just my two cents on the whole matter.

I must disagree banshee. The mods make more than enough posts. Sure, most of those consist of in the Bungie Community forum, but what is the use of posting if it doesn't mean anything? Personally, that is what I go by, if a post doesn't change anything, if a post is just useless, then why post it? The "Good work guys" suggestion you made, personally, I would probably never do that since it has no meaning. It wouldn't have mattered if a mod were to post in that thread again, the people would still continue to flame with no end. And from the sounds of it, the moderator that deleted the thread did what he thought was 'right' thing to do. That is, there is no 'right' or 'wrong', but how the moderators interpret and enforce the rules. That particular moderator, though it the right thing to do to delete that thread. If they were to post, then you all would have seen the post for about two minutes, then there would me no remanence(sp?) of posting in the thread. So what exactly would be the point? My point being is that there is no need to post in a thread if it is useless and will not change the thread at all, and the mods only do what they believe is the correct. If it was a mistake, so be it, they are humans after all.

Like I kept saying, I was under the assumption that seeing how bad the thread got, somebody had to have gotten somebodys attention. I may have assumed too much. The entire situation was so shocking at the time.

Maybe I was getting the wrong message across. Maybe I should have PMed one of you guys myself instead of assuming out of all that nonsense, somebody else did it.

This isn't directed at you in particular. Are we really doing that much wrong that people need to make threads all this often? I was under the assumption we'd been doing a good job.

To answer your question, I haven't been doing much moderating at all over the past week or two, so I don't know. We usually don't delete threads that often unless a majority of it is crap. Frankly, I don't know who does it every time we're accused, because nearly every mod says "no I don't delete threads that often!".

Ugh, headache.

The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence ;) [/cliche]

I really have nothing more to add. Just because you don't see the mods actively posting, doesn't mean they're there. They're just like Ninjas (which they are), you don't always see them, but they come out of the shadows to taunt you everyone once in a while to instill fear ;)

Well, if we didn't question every little aspect, we wouldn't show much concern now would we. We're merely showing that we care, not that you're doing a bad job because you guys do what you do well.

Anyways, you're right. If someone hadn't deleted the thread and just locked it, I probably wouldn't have made this thread in the first place. That is a serious problem you guys need to figure out if possible. What you're saying is this is not a new problem and that no one ever comes forward to at least admit they made a mistake. It may be a glitch, it may be what we call back at my old group, a "trigger-happy". They never lasted long when my group promoted them.

Anyways, a growing problem is something people don't just hide. They would have informed someone of something. No action seemed to be taken by anyone. No one even said anything about ninja presense. We were wondering where anyone was. Sure, we know "you're everywhere," but there was something about this thread that demanded urgency. Something we were hoping someone would notice. Then... it was gone!

I do agree that if a thread is deleted there should be a PM to the OP. I've had one of my threads deleted before. From my point of view it was promising to be a nice, heated debate with a moderate amount of flaming. I was extremely dissapointed when I saw it's absence. I searched a couple pages for it, but it was just gone.

I would rather have no thread deleted. I hate sitting there wondering "What the hell? I had a perfectly good argument going, what happened to it?"

If there's atleast a reason why it's locked, I'm happy.

why not lock the off-topic threads? Those can create flaming just as much as on-topic ones, and there breaking rules right from the beginning.

All it took was a simple statement like, "I agree. Even if it's fake, it may be fun to look into. Keep it up members." Dear OP,

[rant] I disagree with you. I'm not saying I don't want more mod activity, but rather that they participate in various discussions. I've only seen a handful actually participate. That's really what I want. I don't want them to post useless things like "hey, good job, buddy." I want them to be more involved. I understand that they're the oh-so-powerful-and-respected Ninjas that everyone treats as gods, but they're human too (sort of). I think that if the Ninjas can actively participate and moderate at the same time, then and only then will they truely be doing their job. From what I've seen the only Ninjas that actually participate are Recon, Achilles1108, Ghandi 2 (who really only posts in teh FLood) Achronos (with his various words of wisdom and irrefutability) and Stosh (as of late). Whatever. [/rant]

Just so you know, that was the wrong thing to say.

I post a lot, RedPhoenix. In fact, I get bored if I just lurk without posting at least relatively often. I mostly post in The Flood because, despite its flaws, it's the only main forum that interests me enough to post anymore. The Underground has almost no oldskool discussion, Halo discussion gets very boring (scroll through the Halo forums and you'll say they talk about the exact same thing over and over again mere pages back; and even if I do care enough to contribute to a Halo 3 thread, I usually don't since I fear someone will take my orange text as truth), and I get tired of The Septagon because while more sane, it's always full of threads complaining about us or something else (I have read all the major dramatic threads recently, and I didn't post in any of them because it's incredibly difficult for me to continue caring about internet drama). All these are perfectly valid for the forums--but don't expect me to post if I don't care.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy coming here; if I didn't, I would resign. I contribute what I can, but it seems to me I'm basically in a no win situation.

I do agree, however, that we could have much faster response time, and I am that we don't always respond to PMs, but it's very easy to put off responding to someone until later and then forget about it.

I like the job the mods are doing. It's unreasonable to expect instant responses to problems, and all situations I've seen where a mod has taken action they have done an exemplary job.

And bad-mouthing goweb and Makaveli is just, very odd. Ghandi was right in his response to that. >.<
