Subject: Forum Ninjas, I summon thee! : about mod activity

Veiled threats would perhaps help a little Recon. It always does.

On a slightly off-topic note, I wonder if since the Septagon has been renamed the Community Forum if we could allow for broader discussions with more regards to the community than just Bnet itself. I guess I'm talking about stuff like RedvsBlue(RT in general I suppose), bashing Stuntmutt's poor sense of humor, other goings on at places like Rampancy and HBO(if there's really anthing going on, a tourney or LAN perhaps?) and other community related stuff. I could see a real good discussion to be had with how RvB is coming to an end.

On topic, I've come to realize just how much the Ninjas probably do lurk. I've been doing more of it myself as, like Ghandi said, so much is repeat and complain nowadays on the Bungie forums. Most of the time I don't even sign-in anymore. I've even noticed it more with more regular users I used to see pretty often who only pop out from under the rocks every once in a while. I guess waiting for groups could have a lot to do with that, but they'll be ready when they're ready.

I think we need more mods to make fun of. That'll solve everyone's problems.
I disagree.

You say tomato; I say potato.

To be honest, there isn't really anything so bad that a member could do on the forums. Shock sites and topic-derailing are about as bad as it gets here.

If the mods are like me, they are multi-tasking when they are using their computer. They probably read the forums more than they post. This makes it seems as though they are never on, but if you visit their profile; you will see the last time they signed in to be assured that they are here.

This thread contains the list of every mod and a link to their profile.

So does the community get together whenever there's no real issues and decide to make a thread about how useless/corrupt/inctive we are?

You're right. But don't forget identity "theft". That's pretty bad too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but their profile only shows the last time they posted, not the last time they signed in. Right?

Unfortunately, yes. No-win situations FTW!

No. It's just that when there are no real issues, the non-issues are more noticeable, as it were.

People complaining about little things is a good sign: It means that most people are satisfied, and that there are no big problems lurking around.

Don't Panic, people. ;]

It displays the last time they signed on, I believe. My proof of that is: Makaveli4life1 signed on yesterday, but he hasnt posted since 3/1/2007.

If you want to see the MC die, play Legendary. If you want to see MC finish the fight, play Halo 3. If you want to see MC finish the fight by dieing, why did you waste six years when you could have done it yourself right now?

Geez, you guys lose track of the subject quick!

Anyways, like I already said, I assumed at the time that somebody out of all that nonsence PMed at least one mod. Nothing happened... till it was gone. That was the situation. There are plenty problems that can be addressed through this situation. Again, I should have done it myself; don't know why I didn't.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I probably would not have posted in that thread unless I thought there was a good reason to. In that, if the OP or anyone else were being flamed, I'd step in. But, if it was an issue about confirming or disproving something, I'd stay out of it. That's not what I'm here to do, and I don't want to give anyone the false impression that I know anything about Halo 3 anyway. You'd be surprised at how many PMs I get requesting inside information about the game. Being that so many people think I'm an employee already, I try to avoid even posting in the Halo 3 forum if its not moderator related. Sometimes I'd like to throw my input out there, but I'm worried that it will cause problems, and I don't want to do that.

I've been posting a lot less lately, because I'm trying to be a bit more stealthy. They were making entire topic about me, or inserting me into benign topics because I was so noticeable for awhile. Everything seems to have calmed down, so I'll be sticking to this tactic for quite awhile. Recon and Ghandi always have more substantive posts anyway. Don't even listen to me unless its a warning, because I more or less lack the capacity for abstract thought, and there are much better sources of information anyway.

Well, it'd be a lot easier if Achronos could get groups back up so we could just make fun of you guys behind closed...internet doors.

Sometimes people get bored and feel the need to complain.

Just like in this post, they only look at the thing that was bad that one time instead of the things that were good the hundred times before.

I respect the mods for what they do, and I don't think we have much of a right to complain. It's not like they're being paid to patrol the forums, so we shouldn't take them for granted.

Think of what would happen without them...

.. Well?

Picture yourself with your tongue cut out, your knees and elbows shattered by .44-40 flechettes and your sorry arse bleeding to death on the edge of a rural road somewhere in Hokkaido.

When I'm done with you, you'll wish I'd left it at that.

They say that if everyone loves the Authority figures 24/7 and no one is getting their toes stepped on, than the authority isn't doing its job right. People are always going to find something about the mods that they don't like or disagree with. Honestly if the mods are getting personally upset because someone finds a grievence with them, they're probably over reacting. It's not like you're being paid or getting much if anything special other than a fancy color and avatar. If the community gets upset over the mods they are over reacting too. Again, they're not getting paid and they're human with the same faults and emotions. Give them some slack, they're just offering their time to moderate a pointless internet forum because they don't really have much else to do or for some other personal reason (no offense mods, but it's true, you know it).

It's easy to get personally upset when people explicitly and personally involve you.

Also, I have plenty to do, that is why I block half my MSN list frequently, too much school work and too much social life. I don't ever sit around anymore, bored out of my mind. I moderate between parties, assignments and going out. Which is probably why I'm so angry and impatient - too tired.

  • 04.11.2007 11:29 PM PDT

I'm not that active, but never dead.

Personally, I think that this topic has turned into a kind of 'mod blog' on how/why they do their job. Personally, I think they are doing a fine job with the tools they have. Except for that one hiccup when <censored> was made a mod, I trust all of them and would probably buy them a beer if I met them in real life, (Except for TGP under-age lol). I really don't think that we, the non-privilaged members of this site, have much to worry about.

I mean, compared to the lead up to Halo 2, the forums are very, very, clean.

Also,Zag is a masochist. Proof to my theory below.

Combine that with his comment about BobBQ's mom, and believe we have a situation I am not going to go further with.

Almost half the mods are Euro-Australasian. In my opinion, we don't need new mods, people just need to calm down. The forums are nigh spotless apart from a few troubled areas.
