hee awesome stuff.
As a budding texture artist myself (you guys will see alot of my work with CMT and my own projects in H2V, btw :P /highjack), seeing these maps motivates me to better my skills. The halo texturing fascinates me and drives me to sit at my computer hour after hour painting and drawing and sketching, most especially, the forerunner designs. The patterns and intricate details on the walls and floor and ceilings and doorways and EVERYTHING of the style just makes me stop and look, no matter what game, halo 1, 2 and judging by the latest Vidoc, 3 :)
The covenant style, also intruiges me, as its similar to the forerunner but different enough to be unique, but still hold resonance that, there is a connection there, between both the covies and the forerunners. Genious.
Though, I haven't painted much human styled texturing, as It didn't used to captivate me as much as the covie and forerunner, but looking at all those rusty metal textures makes me want to paint more of em. The rusty metal textures, the bronze and red colours, balanced with the glistening silver panels, coupled with the "sky of doom sunset" radiosity just makes me near -blam!- my -blam!- pants just looking at the map.
and on Desolation, I love how the texturing, rather than be like delta halo, ancient stone, it's ancient metal, and you can see the alpha channel really working well on the bsp textures. Just makes me go nuts whenever i see a cubemap 'doin its thang' in between rusty streaks <3 the moss was a good touch too. Makes me wish Delta halo looked more like this theme, but hey, H2V modding will be the place to be!
Chris Wood, I bow to thee. But no one -blam!- mess's with Marcus Lehto. I hope your reading this, cuz you sir win my internets :D
