Subject: How would you visualize a Sidewinder remake for Halo 2?

Once Halo 2 Vista is out I am going to start working on a remake of Sidewinder. Even though I have some ideas already I want to see what you guys visualize if Bungie released a remake of Sidewinder.

What would it look like?
How would it play?

It would be nice to get some community input to help plan out the map. I will be making some sketches soon and hopefully I can get someone to help out with a 3d model.

Thanks, and remember this is Halo 2 we will be working with; not Halo 3 ;)

maybe weather effects...

the tunnels I don't know how to redo them, maybe make the whole map a bit larger.

maybe like the halo xbox, where you can leave your base, but you can't go back in. This prevents the heavy weaponries to have to go on foot on ground level to get inside. And the snipers who leave their base can't go back in unless on foot, not through portal.

new sidewinder=badass map.

I love sidewinder its my favorite map to play CTF on. I see a remake like desert that PanchoBelt said, with an oasis where the ice sheet is, maybe the bases and tunnels could be more corroded, cause of all the battles that took place there. maybe a crashed ship instead of the ice blocks near the rocket launcher. The sword should be in that little outlet that connects the red/blue base tunnels.....

Now im getting ahead of myself, so ill stop now.

I like the desert idea. I also think it would be cool if you set it on an asteroid. Imagen the back round a nebula. No low grav crap, that would ruin the game play. It would have some pockets of ice, but not many, and loads of new small tunnels and ditches. And for the interact able environments, smaller mediors, every now and then one would come in =).

Now as for the desert idea, it's pretty self explanatory, but it would be good if you had sand storms every like 40 seconds obscuring the vision of anyone not inside something. Heh? What do ya think?

And if the asteroid thing sucks and the desert is to iffy, do a forrest.

They already did sort of a forest one in halo pc. But I think that it should be a dessert, and tere are more cliffs from sand shifting.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

A desert-like Sidewinder variant already exists for Halo CE. It's called Sandwinder. I would personally like a straight conversion of Sidewinder for Halo 2 Vista with all the Halo 2 weapons, vehicles and physics.

That map isn't exactly what we are visualizing though.

You mean more like the sand dunes on Burial Mounds?

I don't think sidewinder would be quite the same if it didn't have the ice, allowing you to snipe drifting hogs. Sidewinder is large, and there are many areas which you never really go to on foot, so I'm sure there could be plenty of improvements to the map.

Gaming for fun.

Yes, it would be desertlike. If you make it desert, put some large dynes there where the snowy valley should be - and big rocks etc. The caves should be like corrupted as someone said. Or make just the same old Sidewinder with more effects (snowstorm) and more beauty (*shine shine* ^^).

Thinking of something witty to write here since 2004...

It would have to fit in with the game. What if it followed the theme in The Great Joruney. Perhaps instead of ice there would be puddles. It could be raining and have lots of vegetation. I can also think of auto doors on the bases and the little teleporter bays.

That or you could do it like Quarrentine Zone and have it darkwith pieces of debris. The red base could have the firey effect seen in the sentinal factory and blue base could have broken power crystal's or something along those lines giving off a blue glow. And it would need a constant supply of flood screaming sound effects.

Or you can make that Sidewinder was like Ice Age ( movie :P ) and now its Ice Age 2 , some places have been melt , some places are still snowy .
But the map layout would still be same , with minor little changes , as its still for Halo 2 .
That would be cool in my opinion =)

I imagine it with some melted areas. Like the raised platform where the overshield is would be lower and under a waterfall coming from the top of the map with the overshield in a trench where the water is hitting the ice. The ice patches would be larger looking, and where the original ice patches were in Halo 1 there would be tunnels connecting the ice patches, they would have a small amount of water in them though that would slow the vehicle. They would have no weapons in them though and only be able to fit one warthog sized vehicle at a time, so banshees and tanks couldn't get in. I would have the area right in the middle of the map next to the tunnel connecting the original tunnels be slightly collapsed, sort of with a land slide look, with the walk way up on the hill slanted from the collapse and it would lean farther the more weight that was in it, like a warthog or more then 1 person. The insides of the original tunnels would be snow filled in the edges with patches of moss in areas of light, and where there was the overshield and active camo barrier would be an open able gate that would stop at just wide enough for a single person to fit through to make it a risk of getting killed while taking the short cut. The floors near the gate would be rusty looking and have a small amount of water on them and splash as you walk through.
I'll add more things as I think of them.

I don't really think banshees would work for sidewinder, to me it just doesn't seem to fit.

And the gate shouldn't be openable, then both bases would be able to walk 20 feet 2 get to the other flag.
