User stats are great! But in the wrong hands people can stalk you. Hey I'm here to get away from worries and just have fun.

Or.. you just don't link your GT...

  • 04.11.2007 11:35 PM PDT

I'm not that active, but never dead.

Um...you can set it so people can see your stats.

That's what all the 'Show/Hide' checkboxs are for in your profile settings.
Your Profile>>Profile Customization>>Personal Information>>Edit as you see fit.

Hope that helps.

Alex,
The only option it gives me is as follows
1.Personalize Your Profile Card Show or Hide ( This is only for your Name and tag line, mainly for your email. Nothing to do with your stats.
2. Gamercard Show or hide (This is your Xbox live card. Nothing to do with your stats)
3.Personalize Your Name in Halo 2 Show or Hide ( Again Nothing to do with your stats.)

But thanks for trying to help

If you hide your gamercard, it won't show that you're linked to a gamertag.

There is no way to hide a gamertag's activity on Xbox Live.

As for Xbox live activity there is one big diffrence between bungie and live. With bungie you don't even have to be a member to view any users activty and with bungie's RSS system it will show you everyone you have ever played with and give you links to those people, thereby creating a dangerest situration if someone is stalking you.

I work here: Sound Devices, LLC. We make bad-ass field audio gear, and you think that's awesome. My messy desk (With work-related items on the computer screen).

I'm completely lost here... What information on your profile at this website could someone use to "stalk" you? You don't have to put any personal info in your b.net profile.

I for one, love the fact that the stats are publicly viewable. It makes it more fun for geeky types like me who are into halo2.junk.ws and stuff like that. It also makes possible the little feed reader thingy that I made (Shameless plug: halofeeds.com).

I logged into Bungie.net and all I got was this lame member rank.

I don't see how gamer stats have information that people can use to stalk you...All they show is what game you played, how you did, and when. There is no info that could lead to a stalking.

Exactly. The "you" in this case being an arbitrary screen name that (depending on how you made it) has nothing to do with you personally...

It works for me. ?? Either way, it should work if you copy/paste.

It will still show for you, but if you log out, you will find that you can't see it.

EDIT: But if someone knows your GT, there is no way to hide that from them, and I'm not really sure why you would want to. How can someone stalk you by looking at your games?

OK I didn't want to go into to many details so not to give other people like him ideas, but looks like I will have to explain.
1. I'm a newbie to online Halo + I have no "real friends" here or a clan = No one really knows me here.
2. The other person has been playing online for years + has friends and his friends has friends = knows how to abuse this system.
3. On your stat page you can see everyone who has ever played with you. You can also contact these people.
4. Anyone even a non-member can view all of this information. Try it. Log out reboot if you want and go to bungie.net look anyone you know up without logging in and you will see what I mean.
5. This person and his friends are contacting everyone I play with and somehow telling them not to play with me. I know that falls short of stalking, but I have been getting emails from dead hotmail accounts telling me "No Halo 4 U".

This is crazy: All that happen between us to set him off is I was in a ghost and took one of his kills. He went nuts calling me names and betraying me all through the game while he was screaming. I mean this guy needs to be on some meds or locked up.

Anyway I like the stats and the RSS system too. But I should have the option to lock that if I feel I need to.

Ahhh. Now I see where you're coming from. It's lame that someone has so much time to waste to do something so ridiculous to you. If someone really is doing that though, I can see why you would want to be able to lock your data down. Unfortunately, (I'm only guessing here) this type of functionality might mess with the way the stats work. For instance, If you could lock your stats, then what about all the people you get matched with? Would they be able to see the games (in their own history) that they played with you in? Stuff like that...

If you can get proof that this person is doing this to you, you should contact webmaster@bungie.net with your complaint. Correct me if I'm wrong about that, anyone?

Uhhh What?
U R SO WRONG IT'S MORE THEN THAT. YOU HAVE TO HAVE A MICROSOFT WINDOWS LIVE ID AND BEING A WEBMASTER AS I AM I KNOW FIRST HAND HOW HACKERS CAN GET INTO ANYTHING. OR DO YOU THINK MICROSOFT DOSEN'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH HACKERS?

I'M SHOCKED AT HOW MANY PEOPLE HERE VOTED NEGITIVE TO HAVING AN OPTION. SINCE WHEN DO WE AS PEOPLE CHOICE TO HAVE NO OPTIONS.
AND TO THE PERSON WHO SAID LOCKING YOUR STATS WOULD MESS UP THE STAT PAGES OF PEOPLE THAT HE/SHE PLAYS WITH. GET A CLUE!
IT WOULD STILL SHOW UP ON THE OTHER PERSONS STAT PAGE FOR WHATEVER GAME MAP YOU WERE ON. YOU JUST WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GO AND FOLLOW HIS/HER STATS FROM THEIR PAGE.

WHEN I STARTED PLAYING HALO 2 I HAD NO IDEA THAT A WEBSITE WAS TRACKING ME. WHAT'S NEXT? SOME OF YOU PEOPLE THINK YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS? OMG! I HATE TO SEE WHAT THE NEXT 20 YEARS HOLDS. IT'S LIKE THE MATRIX. YOU HAVE DRINKED THE KOOL AID.

I said that; And as a matter of fact, I actually am a web developer (I have a Bachelor's degree in IT with a network / web development focus, if you're curious). I believe I appended that statement with the phrase "(I'm only guessing here)", because I admit that I'm not really sure.

Freedomfighter, dude. Calm down. Nobody is saying that we don't want options. We're saying that we don't see the particular use in this option. If someone is messing with you about it over live, mute them and block the emails. If you keep getting harassed, contact the LIVE team. Tell them what's going on, I'm sure that they can help. That feedback system does count for something too. Also, what's the point of having the option if someone can hack your profile so easily?

Yes I knew that, but I got caught up in the vote/option thing. I am sorry for my oversight in addressing your comment.

Now that is funny, I don't care who you are.

And to the other poster I didn't mean to come off like I was mad. I guess I'm just confused by why people are so ready to give up thier options.

On the day this all happen I contacted Live and bungie. Then that night after I got the first email I contacted my uncle who works for the feds in Cincinnati. My uncle and Live has gotten back to me. Bungie never did. I have been told that I should say no more about this. So it's in the hands of people in power now and I'm happy with that. If bungie wants to shut down this thread then thats fine with me too. Thanks for everyone who wiiegh in on this matter even to those who disagreed with me. Hope to play with you all some time. I'm still not very good but I 'm trying and I can be a good friend I never get mad it's just a game to me. Take care and God bless.

P.S. If you want to be on my friend list please just send a request. About me: I'm a disabled Vet (Did not get injured on duty) I'm married with 2 kids. I play mostly at night and sometimes in the mornings. (My kids play Tony Hawk, so if it says I'm online playing, it may be my kids). I love sports games. I'm just now getting into shooters like COD2. I'm using my old Xbox until I get a Elite.

This has already happened. People can see your stats.

They can either 1)Search your gamertag

2)See the stats on your homepage if you linked your GT.
