Hey guys Im getting an exception error everytime i try and play anything (The menu loads fine)...campaign or multi.... i have just installed the game so i havnt played anything yet.

The demo however runs fine on my computer so im assuming its not my gpx card "Raddeon 9550". The demo used to do the same thing till i updated the string.dll from the main site and that seemed to fix it.

1.07 for the full version hasnt.

Any idea guys?

1.5Ghz Athlon
Win XP SP2
Raddeon 9550 with Catalyst Drivers
7hunded and somthing ram :)

Try putting -vidmode at the end of the Command Line Parameter box when you click "Properties" on the Halo icon on your desktop or start menu. Also http://support.microsoft.com/halocombat has lots of helpful tips.

I have the same card (it's on it's last legs) and I always get that problem when I do a fresh install. So I'm assuming that the error message goes something like this: A problem occurred initializing Direct3D. Hardware acceleration maybe disabled, please run DXDIAG. Like I said, try -vidmode, and search around that website, your answer is probably in there.

Im just reinastalling now to get the root of the problem sorted. Ill try that thanx but i dont think thats the issue.

Infact i dont get any particular Error. Halo just Shuts down and i get a box saying "Exception!" "Gathering Exception Data" then im back in windows.

Anyhoo, ill post my results here

Obviously you modded something. Or your game disc has corrupted files on it, I dunno.

Reinstalled...

Tried Campaign on 800x600. Exception Error

Patched to 1.07. Tried Campaign... Exception Error

Tried Vidmode.... no change...

I think it has something to do with the strings.dll that was the problem on the trial hmm

I havnt modded anything i have just bought the game today, all in sealed packaging from Virgin

You can try looking for an answer here:
http://support.microsoft.com/
If you cannot find one, try emailing Microsoft about it.

Managed to get the game working slightly after a re-install.

Went straight to internet.... halo would not load gun models or player models but would load maps.... tried campaign, got error, no cant play anything again.
The microsoft website is useless.

Im thinking it to do with my gfx card Radeon 9550 256 mb, ive heard problems to do with larger cards but only if the game doesnt work off the bat. Anyone ele have similar issues that have been resolved?

Are you using Custom Edition or regular Halo PC?

im thinking, that it has something to do with your card. so the best way is to edit the config file or emulate another card

first we will try the config file

goto c:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo then look for a config text file, open it

go to where it says:

///////////////////////////////////////////////////
//
// ATI
//
//////////////////////////////////////////////////

and under where it says:
Vendor = 0x1002 "ATI"

type DisableAlphaRenderTargets under, Vendor = 0x1002 "ATI"

then save the file

tell me if that works

lol, it doesnt even start then it says:

flag = xxx expected on line 148 - 'DisableAlphaRenderTargets under, Vendor = 0x1002 "ATI"'

Now i put it on the same line - before it... Boots up but still crashes once i try and start a game

Yup, i got all the latest ones catalyst 7.3 or something. Got the latest Dirext X, ran a Dxdiag, everything a ok. All other games work fine... I can run WoW at reasonable quality. Unreal tournament works fine.

I think its a specific problem linked to the 9550 256mb card and this specific game . Ive tried the 256mb fix that bungie put out to no avail.

Its standard Combat Evolved not custom edition.
