Ok is it just me or are the symbols for the human forces lifted right out of marathon?
is HALO some sort of prequil/ sequil(mispelled)/alternate
coincidence, i think not

remaking marathon1 2 and infinity in the halo 2 engine would be AWESOME
think bout it

Cookies YAY

man that would be cool

I got the impression that the references are just insider jokes for Marathon fans. "Look, a mark V!" The histories are different in the different game wolds and I don't see how to mesh them cleanly. There are things carried over from Marathon, and I think that some of it is part of Bungie's unique sense of humour. They do seem to have a thing for subtleties that only those who pay attention can spot... and wonder about. That intricate layering is part of why we love Bungie stuff, isn't it?

Theres one thing though

what if Halo took place like 100-200 years before

also in the fall of reach(i think) one of the spartans is in a simulator of the battle of marathon or something like that

man it would be so cool to do that thin with marathon halo engine wow just thinking about it makes me all tingly inside or better yet as an easter egg put a sixteen player version of infinity hidden in Halo like you know the whole game with sixteen player
also rocket launcher is called SPNKR
in both

thats it

Well golley. There's Marathon symbols hidden everywhere. The control room, the silent cartogapher, most likely the on switch on your computer, on the back of your car if you happen to have a Mazda.

This is enough of a speculation hotbed, I'm suprised some of the more vocal forum members haven't posted. There are far more connections than just the marathon logo all over the place. The Forerunner seem peculiarly like the Jjarro, and since Bungie tied two of its games together already with that race (PID and Marathon), I wouldn't put it past them to actually make the Forerunner more and more like the seemingly-omnipotent race seen in Marathon. I suppose that's the most probable connection between the two games, since all other similarities also have differences to counter them. We'll see though, we'll see. I don't think Bungie will ever make an official Marathon remake again, but it's genius is still apparent the most in its story, which lives on in a way through Halo.

Bungie has already clearly stated that they put those little things in to pay Homage to Marathon, their stories are in no way related, and they answer it in the Halo FAQ.

however i fell like there is some thing more than that i mean it true that it is there to "honor" marathon but isint it smething more than that i mean really there are definate simaliritys between the two games

hmm if i found enough people i would probally fund a remake of marathon for pc/mac as a mod for halo......
With bungies permission of cource....

i miss the good old days

Alright i don't really no what your talking about but i doubt Halo is a sequil to anything, im pretty sure halo 2 is a sequil to halo, but i think halo is just its own story line.

Halo's a separate series- Bungie will always be like this. And that Battle of Marathon- not specifically a space battle, but it could also be talking about some other time period, just for practice. Marathon, the ship, was never a battle, so it's not what is being referred to.
As is mentioned, Halo has many carryovers from Marathon series- the "Mark V" comment, the symbols, the races... (Hunters=Hulks from Marathon) and the AI's have connections: Cortana is one of the blades that is sister to Durandal. Both are rampant, both have run into powerful alien computer systems and structures.

you guys all pose good points.

but what dou you guys think of the idea of remaking marathon 1 2 or inf for halo pc as a mod
i would be soooo willing to "fund" it, it would be small amounts of money but the final result would be awesome
