I read forums and sites saying that Vista takes up a whopping 500-600 ram. Would you have to get 500 ram PLUS the 1 GB ram H2V needs or is it just 1GB total ram in all? Therefore Halo 2 Vista taking up somewhere around 200-500 ram.

Um, what the hell did you just say?

RAM is not a unit of measurement, just so you know...

You know how it says "Minimum Requirements: 1GB ram"

Is that how much ram you need to put into your computer total or does it take up that much ram while running?

I'd like to mention that Windows Vista takes *about* 40% of my physical memory (which totals at 1gb). Of course, I have numerous other programs that could be having an impact on that, but I tried to close anything I felt caused too many problems.

Well, personally as a PC gamer I view my PC as my entertainment system, so as apposed to getting cable or some big-ass TV screen that is "HD" but looks like -blam!-, I put that money down on my computer.

Think about that. I rarely watch TV, so as apposed to spending big bucks on a nice TV, I spend it on a nice PC. How much do you watch TV? How much do you spend on TV compared to your PC? You see, being a computer gamer is in part simply using a PC as an entertainment device, and is also in part a hobby, so I see it as perfectly acceptable that a uber gaming machine may cost me 4 grand, when I don't spend money on TV's, DVD players, TiVo, or a "real" hobby, such as golfing, woodcrafting, or spying on my neighbors kids, which is an expensive thing to do, you know the cost of a decent nigh-vision add-on to a high powered telescope?

So in my mind, $220 on an upgrade you need to do anyway just so you can continue entertaining yourself and keep your hobby alive, is nothing.

Oh, and you will be sorely disappointed if you get Home Basic, go for Ultimate, if you can't afford that, you have more important things to do in life than play computer games ;)

Totally true and i like the thing about spying on my neighbors kids, but honestly if you wanna play something well you gotta put the moolah in, nothing is for free in this world, it all costs something

Most games in this day and age take up about 300-600 mb of ram. If you have anything less than a gig your OS will claps while you run it.

That too, right now I recommend 2 Gigs, jury is still out on how much of an advantage 4 Gigs is on Vista (for gaming that is).

To be entirely honest, when it comes to software, I just cannot part with my money. I just don't feel it's worth it. If I need something, I'll head on over to http://www.forlegalreasonsIwonttellyou.com and ask the friendly community to set me up with a download link. Vista Ultimate? -blam!- that, I downloaded the sucker 100% free. The only software I pay for, is games.

Moderators - In no way have I contributed to software piracy in this post, Eg. Linking to piracy sites, posting download links to software etc.

Actually you did, you linked to a site that provides such things, same thing.

And cheese, when it comes to TV, can you part with your money? Shoplift much?

I don't particularly think it's worth it to pay taxes, but darn it, there's that law that says nothings free in this world. Do you feel it is worth it to part with your money for gas? Personally I think that people who steal are simply losers who think they have some moral or ethical argument as to why it isn't right to have to pay for certain things. I am far from a supporter of the current system, but I'm not stupid enough to think that circumventing the system makes me special, as you seem to. Or is it that your special, and thus shouldn't have to follow the system?

I didn't make the game, but darned if I'm not going to play by the rules and have a fear somewhere at the back of my mind of getting caught and ruining my life and the life of my wife. You don't like the system? Then there are plenty of ways out, go to africa you can get them for less than 5 bucks each, usem.

Oh, and I almost forgot, good luck in the future when whatever exploit that allowed you to get a "free" version of Vista is discovered, I bet when it wipes all your hard drives you will somehow blame Microsoft for it.

Home Premium is the most logical choice.

  • 04.13.2007 11:33 PM PDT

Well I've got Ultimate and I think its great, but without having seen or worked with the others I can't really compare them.

The only difference in Ultimate is more Games, File/Drive cnryption/backup and moving wallpapers. Nothing else. But there are apparently GOING to be more in the future.

Halo 2 doesn't use a pure 1GB RAM. It just requires you to have at least 1GB. It could probably only take up 512MB. Stick with at least 1.5GB (1536MB)

if he already has 512, he just gets 1gb. Vista doesn't take up 400mb constantly. When you start doing something that requires ram it will shove things onto your hard drive to make space for the more important things. Same with processor power and a lot of the performance impacting things.
