now the idea is not new to any one BUT i have some specs for it (made up of corse), now dont tell me this is to not-haloish cause in the pre-xbox there was one.

here is a link to the picture:
http://bungie.com/images/Games/Halo/Gallery/PreXbox/halo_chie f_1099.jpg

now my idea is to bring this weapon back in halo2 (updated rendering included) and here are some specs for it

name: MCG (mini chain gun)
style: two handed
role: supression fire and troop support
ammo: 200 rounds
damage: slightly less than the LAAG's
description: a 2 handed weapon designed for supression fire and troop support, the MCG offers high rate of fire and good damage at medium to short range. it takes exactly 2.2 secounds to rev up to full fire rate allowing for increased bullet output with reduced range and Accuracy. during the rev up time the bullet spread increases untell you reach maximum RPM's at which point the MCG's most efective range is medium to short, at long range only a few bullets will hit the target so if you wish to shoot some one at this range fire in bursts.
the weapon, at full RPM's, can burn the 200 round clip fairly quickly, so be warned. when fireing at full speed it slows your foot speed down a little due to the large centrifical force involved.

I know the idea of having a hand held vulcan is nice, but its too impractle and unbalanced. Now a single barreled machinegun, which was fed by a chain would be nice. With chain capacity of 200 rounds, and a reload time that would justify the large capacity.

Yeah- a portable chain gun is not balanced. It was one of their original ideas when Halo was maturing, but it's not going to be fun to play with, since the prospect of getting on a Warthog (Puma!) would be killed by the possibility of running across the landscape with the same gun.

actualy its not to imbalanced im sure bungie could get it fair and balanced (not to mention i added a slower walking speed when at full bullet output as well as inacurisy beound medium rang. (well medium-short rang medium loses some of its power)

i gotta disagree, the hand held chain gun whould kick ass but u need suport from marines to use it effectivly and the AI in Halo1 sucked for marines. the concept is good but the reality is bad...
im a loney person...

just so you know the AI in halo2 is going to be a hell of a lot better im sure in Halo2 marines would know how to use a MCG efectivly for support, and if your using it you support the marines. but hey im just making an aurgment for defending my own invention so im a little one sided :P

SB-117

I like the idea. It could have to spin and charge up for a second before you can fire it giving the defender more time to dodge or attack. Also its accuaracy would be only effective at close range and its reload would take time so I think it would be a good weapon and add more variety.

Try this, same idea but much more balanced. The problem with a handheld LAAG is that it's far too accurate and in generally too powerful overall. I envision this more like the hip mounted guns from Aliens.

---------------------------------
The M24-B Reaver Chain Gun: A Heavy Support Weapon which Halo lacks. Large caliber rounds, insane firing rate and long range. Drawbacks. Takes a full second to cycle up to speed in order to fire. While firing, limited to walking speed only as the gun bucks in your arms and you have to fight to keep the reticle on your target. Due to its complete lack of accuracy it is normally held as best as possible in the general direction of your enemy.

This weapon, normally mounted in fixed positions can be held aloft by a Spartan and it cycles multiple chambers via an electic motor and battery.

Special Note by Gen. Anders: All attempts to use this weapon in Spartan Simulated Combat drills show that not even Spartans can wield this Reaver in Close Quarters. All who have tried have failed. At close range any Elite or Spartan can easily leap out of the firing arc the moment they hear the Reaver powering up. Once firing it cannot turn fast enough due to the recoil to follow the target.

Primary Purpose: Infantry Suppression
Secondary Purpose: Anti-Vehicle
AVAILABILITY: Rare
ZOOM: None
ROUNDS - DEFAULT: 480
ROUNDS LOADED PER USE: Chain Fed
MAX AMMO CAPACITY: 1920
ROUNDS FIRED PER SECOND: 40
RELOAD TIME: 8 seconds (Only needs to be reloaded when new ammunition is found)
MELEE RATING: Impossible
HIT DAMAGE: 60-80 DU per Round.

Where were these hip mounted guns from Aliens? I don't remember them. I think that the idea of the mini/chaingun is interesting, but far from reality in this point of Halo 2's development.

Unless it's already there and they haven't shown it to us. Note, from today's update. One of the developers keeps making up new weapons hoping that he can sneak another in. He likes weapon variety *lol*

The hip mounted guns from Aliens were used by Vasquez, the small fiery latino woman with the large muscles and the big blonde germanic guys. They were almost two meters long and had a gyroscopic mount and harness to help them hold it and reduce recoil.

hey i just got an idea, here's how it goes: mc is guning a warthog with a LAAG and having two marines help out by filling spots, then the two front men (driver and side seat) get killed, so mc rippres the LAAG from it's resting spot and starts to use it against the covinent.
sweet idea, no?

I think you should be able to rip the gun off of a busted warthog and stick in the ground, and keep using it.

 • 07.16.2004 10:58 PM PDT

I'll be on my own side.

dammit byrum i was going to say that. but that wouldnt work because you have to take the ammo drum with you as well.

but in halo 2 there are mounted machine guns all over the place. and what happens when you run out of ammo with the portable LAAG? then you just have a huge piece of crap that you have to lug around and it would only do more harm to you than the covenant

...but that's the catch- you just cut the chain at the base of the ammo box, and use however much that is.

I was thinking just for MP.
and
When it's out of ammo, you could just drop it.

yea but if your going to rip it off a Hog you either need to stay by that place or put al the ammo in one huge container and run around with it but slowly

use an SMG. just as fast ROF and you can carry 2.

You could maybe be able to hike it for 30 meters (to clear the blast zone), and then get too tired to carry it farther. Then you just jam the base into the dirt.
