His CPU more than fulfills the minimal requirement. And he has just enough RAM to get the job done.

Normally I would just tell him to buy a new GFX card, as what he has now is pathetic (ATI Radeon XPress 200M IGP). However, he seems to be able to run Halo PC at full settings with little to no performance decrease (Perhaps due to the 256 MB of dedicated video RAM). Do you think (at a stretch) that he will be able to run Halo2V?

I don't think so, not with an X200...

That's what I was thinking too. Except I have an Xpress 200M in my laptop, and it barely run Halo PC at all.

That's a given. (512MB DDR2 RAM; Sempron 2800+)

Except my point is: how can you have such drastically different performance with the same GPU?

Ah, look at the lonely people...

GPU is not everything.

No, it isn't. But it's a rather ignorant statement.

For a game like Halo 2, the game is more GPU bound than anything.

You could have a 2GHz P4 and half a gig of RAM but coupled with a GeForce 78xx or ATI X8xx, it would run fine.

Rather, a game like Battlefield 2 can benefit from a nice video card, but with 1GB of RAM, and say an 8800GTX with everything set to High, your gaming experience will be terrible, as Battlefield 2 takes up alot of system memory and will use memory from swap file to fill the gaps in the RAM. And as we all know, HDD access and read-write speed is ass slow compared to RAM.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

It's the dual core.

The dual core processor is the reason for the game speed. Dual Cores happen to be fast because of the increased number of transistors and they can handle more threads than a single core.
