Is it possible? Will Bungie ever release the Legendary Three (and maybe PiD) on Xbox? Revamping the gameplay and graphics, but keeping it basically the same, would make the greatest series ever even better. Tell me what you people out there think. Share with me your opinions, so that I might drink them and be replinished.

I don't think it would be a waste of time; I think it'd be a great endeavor to undertake. Especially considering the unrivaled success that Halo and Halo 2 have seen (it shipped a supposed 2.38 million copies on opening day; a figure that not even 50 games in history have seen in their entire release). Imagine if Bungie remade Marathon after Halo was done. No one could get enough of Halo, so then they release a game set in the same universe, offering players that same feel; different game, different story. Only things that would detract from that that I can imagine are actually the gameplay elements that made Halo so popular; carrying two weapons at once, pick-up & drop weapons on the fly, throwing grenades whenever, melee hits, and especially vehicles. I could easily imagine those element incorporated into Marathon, but not vehicles; Marathon's game dealt with smaller, more-closed in spaces than open outdoor spaces like Halo.

Nevertheless, I'm confident that a proper remake of Marathon reimagined by the OG's themselves (word) would be a success. Especially considering the badass level layout that all three games shared (although, yet again, it might be unpopular to some Halo fans; Halo was a real run 'n gun shooter, Marathon gave you objectives and contained a lot more puzzle-solving). And can you even begin to comprehend Marathon remade graphically? The whole atmostphere was so great in the first one that I think my mind would be blown if they used today's technology to reinvision it.

Ach! Was ist los?

I think Bungie has things they'd rather do instead.

Porting AlephOne to the XBox would be fairly simple if all the requisite SDL functions were ported first. Graphics and joystick support have already been ported as part of the OpenXDK project, but sound and networking still have to be done... and then there's the question of whether terminal text could actually be read on the average TV.

These issues aside, a fan-made XBox port of AlephOne wouldn't run unless the XBox had been modded in some way, which will at best void your warranty and at worst destroy your XBox. Of course, the existing Linux version could probably be played under Xebian Linux, but that's more trouble than most people are willing to deal with.

Thanks for the info, guys. Maybe one day Bungie will at least recognize that we hardcore Marathon fans are still alive and kickin', and do something for us. Alas, until said day, I still have my good ole' Trilogy Box. Durandal, here I come.
