First, I think this is the correct forum for this but if I'm wrong I apologize. In other forums I've been I have seen things like yellow cards. For example, say someone bumped their thread they could get a yellow card. If someone flamed someone with lewdness and cursing they would get a double yellow card. You could go down the list of all of Bungie's forum rules and decide what gets a yellow card, double yellow card or immediate banning. Obviously this would be controlled by the moderators.

i know this is Bungie and not "other" forums and that's fine. I am not saying it should be done like this but I do like the idea. I do tire of trying to have a good debate/conversation/whatever and you can't because for every 1 legit post their are 9 posts that are just flaming. Let's say if you used the card method after a double yellow card if someone was reprimanded again they would automatically be banned for an amount of time. This could be set up how ever Bungie sees fit.

The reason I see this as a good idea is if someone received a double yellow card they might think twice about making another bad post. It could be a learning experience without getting banned or maybe even flamed.

How about public flogging?

i think bungie has put too much work into their "hidden" system. i dont think this would really be neccessary and yet i think its covered.

i dont think they can do to much to users becuase;
if you ban a user they make a new account
if you ban an ip they get a new one
if you ban a pc (wait, is that legal? if it is; do it, do it, do it!!!)
if you give users steps they may push em to the limit then make a new account.

bungie is so much different from other sites, i dont know what would work for these chaos attracting forums. i think pms saying "next one and your banned" would work just as good as cards. i dont know though...

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

We have a warn system in place now so i guess that would be very much like your yellow card system. To describe it a bit more fully, moderators have the option to warn a user for a minor offence but blacklist/ban at other times for more severe rule-breakings and or repeated rule-breakings.

I do not mean to sound rude, but don't the mods already have that? Or something similar, the warning system that was just implemented. It basically works the same as this yellow card system of yours, and basically is the same thing. None the less though, if there were not already a warning system, I would be for this idea.

We now have something similar to your proposal. But it works behind the scenes, since no one needs to know that a member has been warned (other than the member and the ninjas).

But it is working. I warn members all of the time. I can look at any member and see if they have gotten similar warnings or discipline from myself or other moderators.

The biggest problem that I can see with your proposal is the rigid guidelines of "if you do that, then this will happen". As soon as someone writes a comprehensive rulebook like that, other people are there to find the flaws, the loopholes and to exploit the technicalities in order to disrupt.

Remember that annoying older sibling? "I'm not touching you, I'm not touching you, I'm not touching you..." all the while they are in your face and in your way? They weren't "breaking any rules", but still deserved a good ass-kicking.

That is why the ninjas are trusted to use their judgment. We're human (well, some of us) and we can differ on our reactions. But that sort of flexibility and "uncertainty" is (to me) a strength of the system, not a weakness.
I understand. I guess I always assumed that warnings were simply private messages. The only advantage I see to my proposal is the rest of us could see the warnings and maybe it would help people be taken more or less seriously. And that is very debatable. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

i dont think it would change anything for the public forums. maybe add a little elitism or if you could take away thread making privileges without disrupting posting...

i dont think we need to see who is naughty, they usually make it obvious. i cant wait for the groups! its like opening a Christmas present only during summer... well i guess Australians probably know what thats like... so for them its like Christmas: Part 2!

Some forums don't allow members to create a topic until they have made several post. They also can't create a post while in trouble. While it would not bother me at all for this forum to be like that I'm not saying it's the way it should be. I could argue for and against it. Also, I'm not sure if some thing like that would be in the interest of Bungie. It would massively reduce the amount of people and activity in the forums. I'm sure we all wish we could just have intelligent and legitimate posts but at what cost?

wouldnt it be glorious if group activity came to the public forums and public activity went to the groups? (by activity i mean the actual presence and posting)

that way public stuff would be easier to access and groups could do things. i only dont want activity here to die down becuase it keeps people at bnet and i dont want groups to lose any potential activity. otherwise im all for activity like normal sites.
