This has been said elsewhere, but...
At this point, the 'Installation Failed' may be the endgame until XBL or CA or Bungie finds a solution.
There are 4 more things you could try:
1. Clear the temporary cache. Reboot your X360, but hold down the A button. That will clear it, but some games like Oblivion may load slower as it re-fills the cache over time.
2. Highlight the HDD in the System blade/Memory, click Y, then enter this code in order: X-X-LB-RB-X-X . A prompt will say 'Do you want to perform maintenance?' If you choose 'Yes', it will clear out your Update cache for ALL YOUR GAMES, meaning that games like GoW or Crackdown will also need to re-download the recent updates next time you play them. This is advanced, and not recommended unless you're desperate.
3. Perform 1, 2, and then, go into Memory/Games and DELETE YOUR ENTIRE HALO 2 FOLDER. Yes, this will suck, because you lose your savegames and all the previously downloaded maps. (If you've got a mem card, knock yourself out.)
4. At some point, try playing a few games of Matchmaker. Halo 2 may have some built-in housecleaning of the maps that may resolve the error.
IF ANY OF THESE WORK, PLEASE COME BACK AND TELL US. I can't test this because I'm at work until this evening. I've tried everything except the A button cache clear, which I only found out about a few hours ago.
